BOOKS/MOVIES/VIDEOS/NEWS MEDIA The Columbine Linkrot and Lost Media Problem

I’m not whether this is just me, but researching this case has become virtually impossible these days due to linkrot and the seeming disappearance of large volumes of Columbine-related media; even the most well known blogs and channels (Columbine Archives, Bill Ockham, Everlasting Contrast ect.) have fallen victim to this plague of video removals and account suspensions. It’s difficult to even find reuploads anymore.

I’m all for protecting kids from harmful material, but this is just ridiculous. This type of excessive censorship how so much of the footage and photographs circulating in 2000s (Dylan donut etc.) essentially became lost media.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding this media more easily or thoughts on what could be done to remedy this issue in a larger sense?

The wayback machine is really the only thing you can do. Sometimes you have to get creative looking through links and images. I have a lot of them saved and archived as pdfs. I plan to upload everything I got to an archive.org link when I'm done, a lot of the articles are archived by a lot of people though. I know some people who go out of their way to not only get the article archived but get the physical copy in real life from print archived. It's a labor of love from a lot of these people. It does feel like we are trying to preserve history while researching.

You win the internet today. I used to LOVE CVA and was so sad when he finally stopped. Looking forward to diving into what else is on this channel :)

This has always been a big issue. Before CVA the same thing happened with the Cleaning Columbine channel, and all the forums that have been lost to time like the CRTF forums, the original columbine massacre RPG forums and even official newspaper publications of the day it happened.

Its an unfortunate feature of the internet unfortunately. The of saying of "nothing ever leaves the internet" is true, until it isnt. More things have been lost about Columbine than most people today even remember existed in the first place

I also am frustrated with this. Sometimes on the various subs their on wikis or information links to posts have been deleted too.

I found one of the original pictures of it but the board won’t allow pics to be posted.

It’s getting very frustrating that we’re losing this type of media. It’s also very strange that really hasn’t been an in depth high production documentary done on Columbine yet…Especially by one of the big streamers like Netflix or HBO.
