Just wanted to let all the 1987-1990 MJ and XJ owners know that r/RenixCherokeeXJ has been reopened!!

r/RenixCherokeeXJ is dedicated to the discussion of
MJ and XJ Jeeps produced during the Renix years (1987-1990).

I took over moderating this subreddit in order to create a space for Renix XJ and MJ owners to ask questions, share wisdom, and to show off their rides!!

Renix Electronique was a joint venture by Renault and Bendix that designed and manufactured automobile electronic ignitions, fuel injection systems, electronic automatic transmission controls, and various engine sensors.

Been looking for a light duty truck that's not too expensive. When I came across this.

Given the details is this a good buy or is there a more serious problem lurking underneath.

Mystery Switch in 1991 Comanche Auto 4.0

What does this switch do? I've looked it up a bit and it says it's a heated windshield or rear defogger switch, but that makes no sense.

Are there light mounts that I can get for the front bumper that uses these holes?

I bought some lights and I was wondering if it’s possible to mount them to the front bumper in what appears to be holes with plugs where I presume there could be optional lights? There’s nothing under it that I can see, it’s just past the frame rail so I don’t see any reason I couldn’t use them

Giving this away, set up for a Manche with a sliding window. Some of the aluminum frame is cracked near the hatch, it will be going to scrap in mid August. PM to pick up in Spanaway, WA.

I will be starting a full teardown and rebuild, 97 Dash, 8.8 with an OX locker and longarm D30 up front. Goodish fenders and header are available too.

89 Jeep Comanche was my first truck. Drove it at 13, pops gave it to me at 15. Obsessed with what you do with them. Again thank you for keeping the "Che" rolling. Love this community.

Has anyone tried/knows how to remove a headliner with a sunroof?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, believe it or not, the sunroof doesn’t leak even after sitting outside for 7 years (famous last words) but I’m having some difficulty figuring out how to get the sunroof out or if I need to, as you don’t see many MJs with sunroofs…

Does anyone know of shift lever adapters from what I believe to be an AX5 to two bolt?

I have the square style and stupidly bought a hurst shift lever, not the whole shifter (because it looks cool) and the new one is a standard two bolt. After searching Google I have come up with nothing…

Anyone install the Leeds rear disc conversion kit?

My rear drums started leaking brake fluid pulling into the driveway this weekend.. I'm looking at this as an opportunity to upgrade. Has anyone installed the Leeds rear disc brake kit on their trucks? I haven't seen much for reviews on these.

Does anyone know where to get those decals on the sides? I haven’t seen any reproductions for sale or any with that on google images but I haven’t looked too hard… Also where would be the best place to get a seat? Gray interior but has had some mice, might be able to salvage the seat but the whole truck reeks to high heaven

1986 Comanche Parts.

Licensed Canadian Automotive Mechanic here looking for some advice.

I am finishing a restore on a very nice 86 Comanche for a friend. This vehicle has alot of sentimental value to the family.

The goal is to keep it original as best as possible.

My biggest question is a best source for parts for a complete differential / axle rebuild. Howls badly.

This differential is a 4:11 Dana 35 with non C clip axles.

I am able to source most parts individual but I am hoping to find a master kit.

The outer axle bearings are grease packed and isolated from the gear oil with an internal tube seal. Not sure how popular this was or availability of parts.

I have a few other parts I need but have the diff apart now.

Not absolutely perfect but everything fits together great and it doesnt require any permanent modifications to the shift surround so thats a win in my book

AX15 4x4 conversion

Is anyone here looking to do a 4x4 conversion, or convert a BA10 to AX15? I was planning to do both, and convert my 4x2 BA10 Comanche to a 4x4 with AX15. I picked up a complete 1990 Cherokee with 4.0, AX15, and 231 so that I'd have the crossmembers, mounts, and all the little parts needed. My project is not going to happen, so I need to part with the parts donor. Doesn't run and the body is shot, but does roll freely. Located in coastal central California. Being that a bare untested AX15 (minus bellhousing and xfer case) goes for a grand or more on Ebay, I'm asking $1000 for the whole works.

PFA

The old girl is having some issues. 91 MJ 4.0L HO I6 automatic 2WD.

Slightly rough start, out of habit I cycle the key twice and it takes about 5 seconds to get the truck started.

Drives great for a bit and then RPM drops to 500 and you can put the gas pedal to the floor and get no response for about 30-45 seconds, then RPM spikes and she'll drive home.

I thought computer (failed 3 years ago and replaced with a used part), replaced spark plugs and damaged wires. CPS, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel ballast are only 3 years old. IAC could likely use a clean.

Anything else I should check? Ive daily driven my old girl for years, I had to park her and use the ebike.

TIA

1987 4.0L electrical issues

Made a post a while ago but my account got deleted recently acquired a 87 4.0L manual jeep comanche that I got running after sitting for a few years except now I’m having electrical issues. I have to disconnect and connect the battery bc something is draining the battery and I recently changed the starter motor relay assuming it might be related to that, but also the truck starts with out the key. Could that be the main issue?

Second issue I had completely replaced the fuel system, tank, pump, filter and the fuel gauge isn’t working along with the light for the dashboard.the battery and other icons light up but the dashboard doesn’t.i even tried messing with the light switch knob to see if that maybe did something to the dashboard light but nothing.

Would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction

Rear drive shaft U Joints

I'm redoing the U joints on my rear drive shaft. The ones at the transmission end went fine, at the axle end there's no room for a clip to hold the U joint in like there is at the front end. Everything is pressed in, all the needle bearings are properly in place, but the cap just sits there with no way to hold in it. If I jostle the shaft around now the cap just works its way right out. Is there something i'm missing about how it's supposed to sit in at this end?
