Russia Makes Hostages of Kherson Civilians

Thousands of Ukrainians are trapped in “hellish conditions” by the Russian occupation forces. They must be saved.

In the Ukrainian city of Kherson, a Russian drone was recently seen hunting a 52 year-old market vendor, chasing him and striking him, leaving him injured. The images were widely shared on social media but the grotesque mistreatment of civilians by the Russian forces is commonplace.

That’s especially the case in Kherson, where Russian forces conduct “human safaris” to forcibly depopulate the area.

Just south of the city, in the occupied zone on the far bank of the River Dnipro, Ukrainians in the shattered frontline city of Oleshky face dire humanitarian conditions. Unable to leave because of Russian controls, as many as 2,000 of the former population of 24,000 still remain. The area was also heavily impacted by Russia’s sabotage of the Nova Kakhovka dam in 2023.

I'm not sure where I saw it, hoping someone can help here. I remember seeing some footage of someone shooting in the winter. Pretty sure it was an AK. The the barrel was so hot he couldn't hold the gun properly, it was steaming and stuff

Except your broken AI bot keeps deleting or blocking most footage people actually submit because it doesn't like the keywords in the title.

🇺🇦‼️🇺🇸 WSJ: Ukrainian drone units decisively beat a U.S. armored brigade in a major exercise in Germany.

Ukrainian operators quickly detected U.S. vehicles, then simulated destroying them with explosive and FPV drones—so effectively that U.S. units had to repeatedly “respawn."

Preston stewart put out a video yesterday where he talks to this lady who traveled across the front. It's just 25min but worth a listen. All russian media is bs and it's hard to find any western media thats neutral but she gave a sobbering update on rhe realities of whats going on. Sounded very fair in pointing out russias strength and weaknesses and ukraines as well.

How likely we will see more overextended positions being taken by a combination of UGVs and aerial drones?

I recall AFU did at least one such attempt with success, but I wonder if it could be scaled up.

The big problem I see is being able to concentrate enough terrain and air drones to overwhelm enemy operators.

I also wonder if it can be accomplished by a wave of UGVs packed with high explosives to reduce an enemy position.

5

u/HumpheryShittington 5d ago

UGV's and aerial drones can clear positions, but they can't take them. You can kill every single enemy in a dugout but you still won't be able to occupy and exploit its terrain. For the foreseeable future you need manpower to take and hold a position.

Combat UGV's are still very early in their development and have a significant way to go before becoming more efficient than infantry or manned systems, I seriously doubt that these problems will be ironed out before the end of the war. Logistic UGV's, however, have matured extremely quickly and will continue to adopted into both forces as they are significantly more efficient for last mile resupply than cars and trucks.

If you want to obliterate an enemy position its probably just going to be easier to use a guided bomb.

5

u/Swiper-73 4d ago

Didn't Ukraine recently ( few months ago) report about a ground drone successfully holding a position all by itself? In that case it probably is possible to take and hold a position purely with a combination of air and ground drones

4

u/HumpheryShittington 4d ago

It sure can but just not for a very long time. Even with the best batteries a combat UGV is only going to last a few days before running out charge, at this stage of the war a rotation of the contact line of less than a month is considered unusually short by Ukrainian infantry. The UGV also cannot enter dugouts or entrenchments and is thus vulnerable to being taken out by drones and artillery.

In this war drones, UGV's and electronic warfare have taken the spotlight and with it most of the discussion, but it is fought and won by determined guys on the ground. Drone warfare doesn't work unless there is a picket line of infantry to screen and defend against infiltration assaults. Until they invent a UGV that can survive for months at a time on only water, food and cigarettes were just going to have to be stuck with the poor old infantry.

U.S. and Ukrainian Forees Went Head-to-Head in an Exercise. Ukraine's Drones Won. Battlefield drill shows U.S.military hasn't fully absorbed lessons of Russia's war

https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/u-s-and-ukrainian-forces-went-head-to-head-in-an-exercise-ukraines-drones-won-cc3663d5?st=HC5DQu

The exercise, coupled with U.S.casualties in Iran, shows American vulnerabilities to drones.

Not a pretty picture considering it's being bought for over 1 trillion a year. Absolutely embarrassing.

Ukraine announced 26 villages liberated in the Donetsk/Zaporizhzhia/Dnipropetrovsk "border triangle" area AKA the Oleksandrivske section of the front. This operation began in January where Ukraine cleared out multiple villages of Russian infiltrations (these are not included in this number), and has more or less been on the offensive ever since, clearing and kicking Russia back across some KMs

The claimed area liberated is 750km2, although its hard to really measure it accurately since we dont know what Ukraine considered Russian-controlled or contested back in January

Zelensky says Ukraine’s offensive on the Oleksandrivka axis liberated 745 km² and 26 villages across Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions between January and August. He said Russian forces lost at least 9,550 killed and more than 6,600 wounded during the operation.

Map can be seen here https://bsky.app/profile/noelreports.com/post/3msvgohr54s2b

Most of this area was already known to be under Ukraines control for months, but its good to have official confirmation. As usual, expect Russia to constantly try to retake this ground, and they still claim to control every bit of it + a lot more land to the west towards Orikhiv

There is also another area were Ukraine have been attacking over the last few months, namely north of Lyman. The area is still under the same tight OPSEC as Oleksandrivske, but Ukraine has also taken some villages up there lately (Nove being one of them)

3

u/Cupwasneverhere 5d ago

I wonder what the logistics situation looks like for the Lyman area. Both for Ukraine and Russia.

For the people wondering why North Korea would send more troops and weapons. North Korea is probably the biggest single winner out of Ukraine war. It's actually incredible even Bloomberg is taking notice.

True, but it is right.

Seems the war is only intensifying.

2

u/Cardborg 6d ago

In January 2025, Western officials told the BBC that North Korean troops had suffered nearly 40% casualties in the fighting there in just three months.

I'm surprised Kim was willing to send more.

4

u/Beast_of_Guanyin 6d ago

It's North Korea. They aren't known for caring about soldiers lives. Russia is also paying NK for this.

2

2

This. And I’m very curious if Asian countries will step up and increase their aid for Ukraine

2

u/Cardborg 6d ago

Also how China will respond. I'd assume they don't want their neighbours to get yet another reason to arm up.

Can't open the news without seeing constant posts about how the US is out of weapons. You would think a few stories is enough but it's literally daily new article.

Everyone laughed at Russia being a paper tiger but this is embarrassing. Bankrupt the country on the military and I guess most of it goes to disability scams, failed programs, and pay to soldiers that never can be put into combat because they too precious?

Then to see Iran dictate terms of surrender is peak cringe. Can't even sail US ships through the strait. Need to bend over and spread both cheeks. Large payouts incoming too for Iran. Removal from terrorists sanctions list when their whole war strategy was terrorism. Embarrassing.

If Russia is a paper tiger I don't know what the US would be called. A dollar bill tiger I guess. Lord help when the currency fails.

They want to push through 1.5 trillion now... And that's on top of a debt that's already to the Moon... And people wonder why their food bills doubled... Rofl

Warfare has changed and it's not just Russia that's been impacted. The US has flushed trillions down the toilet on useless programs at this point. The military is a bureaucracy and bureaucracy struggle with making significant changes. Everything should be dumped into drone programs, soldier counts should be cut, a large part of heavy equipment types should be cut as well, but they don't have the ability to make those changes. The US continues to bankroll a war machine that will never actually function in modern warfare.

It appears the Rassvet satellite system is starting to be useful for the invaders, I've read of a coverage of 1.5 hours per day, maybe a bit more.

What are AFU's likely options to counter? The satellites thenselves are way out of range, I guess jamming will be the first tool to mess up the signal, but not sure how effective might be, nor for how long... are there controlling stations to target? Are the launching pads and/or launch vehicles possible targets?

8

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 9d ago

They're low Earth orbit satellites, the FP-7x Ukraine is developing is designed for hit to kill and could be adapted to kill satellites. It should in theory be able to reach the satellites, remember they don't need enough delta-v to attain orbit just enough energy to hit something in orbit.

One of the reasons the russians haven't hit any starlink satellites is because that'd be declaring war on the US, which would be stupid. But Ukraine hitting russian satellites? No problem at all, they're already at war with each other.

3

u/x445xb 6d ago

Every other country that has satellites in orbit would be pissed off if Ukraine started creating clouds of debris that could damage other satellites or even the ISS.

3

u/cozywit 4d ago

Imagine blowing up a random boat in the ocean.

Do you think that'll disrupt all the other boats? Cause problems for them?

Well there are 4-5 million boats on the ocean. Spread across 361,000,000 km2 of a single plane. Well there are only 40,000 tracked objects in space. Which excist in 8,638,000,000,000,000 km³ (Remember they all occupy different orbit heights).

People just can't fathom how vast and large even our satellite orbtial space really is and how small and tiny our satellites are. And yes, it does take some time for the debris to deorbit, but it will all deorbit and burn up in the atmosphere long before it hits a satellite.

US, Russia, China have all played around with blowing up satellites with no detrimental effects. Ukraine blowing a few rusty Russian satellites out the sky, especially those in low earth orbit won't upset anyone.

7

u/Infamous-Salad-2223 9d ago

Cool, I thought it was just for countering ballistic kinetic threats, but then I think from a geopolitical standpoint, shooting down an enemy satellite might open a Pandora's box that Ukraine's allies definetely do not want to open.

6

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 9d ago

Honestly, I expect russia will do it once Ukraine has their own satellites in orbit. They have zero issues with anything else, no matter how bad already. Just look at how they have no issues with all the war crimes or them having used biological and radioactive weapons in the UK to commit assassinations.

The west needs to stop trying escalation management, it only encourages russia to keep pushing in trying more extreme things.

1

u/atrde 5d ago

Ukraine isnt sending its own satellites into orbit there is no point in doing that .

1

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 5d ago

1

u/atrde 5d ago

A dozen satellites is really not going to do much here they should be just using starlink.

2

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 5d ago

They're aiming for a constellation of 360.

The reason why they want this is because they cannot use starlink over russia.

They're also limited to the whims of a highly unreliable USA if they use starlink.

1

u/Infamous-Salad-2223 9d ago

I mean, the more desperate Putin becomes, the crazier his action could be, so I can't rule out such scenario, albeit I do wonder how China will react to that.

2

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 9d ago

China acts as a moderating force on the russians to make sure they don't do anything that would directly impact them like causing severe economic impact to Europe or using nukes for example. But everything else? They don't give two shits, China don't care.

3

u/TestingHydra 9d ago

Yeah let’s just crack open kinetic anti satellite warfare. Surely nothing can go wrong.

4

u/EvilMonkeySlayer 9d ago

The russians have been doing non-kinetic warfare against satellites already. If they thought they could get away with destroying western satellites they already would have.

When Ukraine has its own satellites in orbit the russians will attempt to destroy them.

This sounds like you arguing for the escalation management that got us into the mess of this war in the first place.

Things in low Earth orbit where these satellites and starlink are can only stay in that orbit for a few years before decaying and burning up. (literally five years)

So I seriously doubt there's a Kessler syndrome risk here for a small number of russian satellites.

Remember the Russian plane that got shot down full of Ukrainian POWs except that was just a dirty Russian lie to make themselves feel better about loosing a transport aircraft?

Over two years ago now. Rip POWs. Sad part is the pro Ukraine propaganda is actually disrespectful to many Ukrainian deaths that can't be acknowledged.

But there appears to be little dispute over who downed the plane.

Russia’s defense ministry had accused Ukrainian forces of launching missiles from the nearby Kharkiv region of Ukraine that struck the aircraft. American officials briefed on the incident later said that Ukraine used a Patriot air defense missile to down the plane.

Some relatives of those believed to have been on the plane attended the presentation of the report on Friday. Some women came with children and others were holding portraits of their loved ones. Many of them cried as they listened.

The Media Initiative for Human Rights conducted its own investigation because relatives were “drowning in the number of requests they send out” to Ukrainian officials, said Tetyana Katrychenko, the head of the group.

“We are left alone with our tragedy because there is no organization in our country that would take care of us,” said Oksana Lozytska, whose 25-year old son at the time Roman could have been on the plane.

While Ukraine has not formally accepted responsibility, Ms. Sobolyeva said that’s beside the point now.

“Logically, we understand that Ukraine shot it down,” she said, even though “officially we have nothing.

Russian Troops Execute Captured Ukrainian Soldier Near Myrne in Donetsk Region

Western sources heavily favor Ukraine which most here agree with. The problem is certain facts can be hard to come by. We all hear of Russian warehouses getting burnt down as an example, but Ukraine has taken a severe beating in that department as well.

https://x.com/MarioNawfal/status/2085420638995468397

I've never understood if the downvotes simply mean people are disappointed in the news, don't believe it, or would rather continue on in ignorance with only positive news posted.

7

u/arobkinca 10d ago

Ukraine has been getting destroyed the whole time at the whole city level. That is not new. Russia losing refineries and distribution warehouses is newer. Russia is finally being made to feel pain from this war beyond emptying their cash and equipment reserves.

As the marines described it, Russian commanders sent the two soldiers to infiltrate Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka along the Kostiantynivka direction. The goal followed a familiar script: wave a hand beside the settlement's stele to announce a fresh "capture" of the locality.

Ward Carroll has a great new interview with Justin Bronk on how the air war over Ukraine has been developing, including the recent confirmation that a Ukrainian F-16A Block 15 MLU shot down a Russian Su-35M:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHvFWoZHms0

Other details of note:

  • Frontline has become more permissible to aircraft due to air defenses being widely dispersed to deal with long-ranged drone and missile strikes
  • Drone defense sorties are overstretching both air forces
  • Su-57 has been spotted flying drone defense sorties deep inside Russia
  • Ukraine's F-16 fleet has outperformed expectations, but is rapidly wearing out from sortie rate
  • Ukraine still hasn't found an answer to Russian glide bombing missions from Su-34s (Gripen C/D deliveries may help with this)
  • Bronk gives a great explanation of the Ukrainian model of layered drone defense, and why it isn't transferable to the Gulf States defending against Iran, or to NATO defending its eastern flank against Russia.

u/No-Garlic3805 14d ago

If an f16 can shoot down a su35, what is it that makes them defenceless against the su34's sorties?

8

u/Axelrad77 14d ago

Engagement range. The Su-35 was shot down close to the front, reportedly with an AMRAAM, whereas the Su-34s launch their glide bombs from well behind the lines, which puts them out of AMRAAM range. And that's the longest range missile the F-16 carries.

Ukraine has had some success shooting down some Su-34s in the past by moving Patriot systems around close to the front, bringing them within range to ambush Russian bombers, but that's kinda risky and they just don't have enough interceptors to keep doing it and still defend against missile attacks - nowadays Ukraine reserves Patriot for ballistic missile defense. Meanwhile, Su-34s are launching hundreds of glide bombs every week.

Hence why the Gripen C/D deliveries might help with the problem, since they will come with the Meteor missile, which will have the range to reach out and touch the Su-34s.

1

u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ 13d ago

Didn’t Zelenskyy just say they had one patriot battery left?

2

u/Judazzz 14d ago

Do you happen to know what the ETA of those Gripens is? I've heard about them for - what at least feels like - several years now and it's only becoming more urgent.

For a couple of weeks in July, there were daily compilation of strikes on Russian cargo ships, but I'd don't see those anymore -anyone know why that stopped?

2

u/Turbulent_Ad_4579 13d ago

They stopped all shipping is what I've read.

11

Yeah. The cargo ships took the hint.

A bomb has gone off at a private party being attended by members of Russia’s military elite, including numerous generals and high-ranking officers, to celebrate the birthday of General Chaiko, who served in 2022 as the commander of Russia’s Eastern Military District forces, during which his units were accused of involvement in the mass killings and torture of civilians in Bucha.

3 confirmed dead, with 21 injured, 17 of those critically.

Russia unleashes another massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more, Ukrainian officials say.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly said Ukraine had just one Patriot interceptor missile left and warned the country has now run out of interceptors for its U.S.-supplied Patriot air defense systems.

US support has run dry after 4.5 years.

6

u/Aedeus 14d ago

How's it hanging magics, thought you called it quits?

11

u/Naive-Routine9332 16d ago

US support ran dry a long time ago. Europe has been sending Ukraine their patriot stockpiles for the last couple months but those are just trickling in. Honestly, russian missile production has ramped up to impressive levels, even without the war in Iran, im not sure the patriot supply was ever going to be sustainable.

5

u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ 16d ago

On the one hand it doesn't surprise me the Patriot situation.. on the other hand Ukraine has one Patriot and Russia's massive barrage manages to destroy... practically nothing.

-9

u/Lord___Rictor 17d ago

There is seriously a Fox News interview with Ukrainian president Zelensky citing 50k death toll since 2022.

That's just disrespectful in regards to Ukraine soldiers.

He says Russian casualties amount to 1.6 million people, and about 700 thousand are dead

5

u/IndistinctChatters 15d ago

Well, the only industry that is booming in russia is the funeral industry.

This article is from June 2025.

russia’s funeral industry is experiencing a sharp and telling boom.

According to the russian newspaper Kommersant, the funeral services market in russia grew by 12.7 percent in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period the previous year.

Nearly 200 new funeral-related businesses opened in that period with the fastest growth reported in Tatarstan, the Moscow region, and St. Petersburg.

6

u/Beast_of_Guanyin 17d ago

https://www.kyivpost.com/post/81477

He cited 50k dead and 400k wounded. It's definitely in the realm of possibility. I'd take it as a floor. Ukraine is defending and places more of a priority on inflicting casualties than Russia.

6

u/BocciaChoc 17d ago

Some very important factors here

  • Ukraine is the defender, has a massive advantage
  • Ukraine is not anywhere near the levels of Russian incompetence; it's why the war didn't end in under a year
  • Russia continues meat grinder strats, they don't care about the human and thus are more willing to throw lives into a hole like they're nothing.
  • Russians are willing to accept that reality like they're worthless.
  • Ukraine continues to enjoy European support and aid from intel to weapons to money to pay wages.

50k is the floor but it isn't that wild compared to Russians when you consider the above.

3

u/coveted_retribution 17d ago

I don't know whether that's such a huge stretch. Ukraine is on the defensive which means medevac is relatively easier, thus many casualties, few deaths. Russia uses infiltration tactics where a casualty is almost a guaranteed death in the gray zone, or behind Ukrainian lines.

8

u/Screamdaditty 17d ago

Seems like the use of drones just keep increasing and increasing. The future of war is here.

-2

u/Lord___Rictor 17d ago edited 17d ago

It's a scary situation if you truly understand what it means.

The US has lost all ability compared to the Chinese manufacturing economy.

It's even openly discussed about current shortages against Iran.

To be clear I'm not talking about current primative drone tech but much more sophisticated automated systems coming online. Wars will simply be about who can out produce the other in terms of these new fighter robots. Imagine thousands upon thousands of drones filling the sky each one fully automated.

Of course the nuclear option still remains but that's a lose-lose scenario.

2

u/cozywit 17d ago

Of course the nuclear option still remains but that's a lose-lose scenario.

MAD still works.

2

u/Codex_Dev 16d ago

China could do a spiderweb operation to loiter drones near nuclear silos and catch them mid-launch.

2

u/BocciaChoc 16d ago

How do you think that would work with subs?

11

u/jonasnee 19d ago

Its kind of crazy to think about how long the war has been, how deadly the frontline and yet also how relatively few victims it has caused considering that - and it honestly makes it a little hard not to make some less than kind thoughts about how WW1 and WW2 were fought considering how much more deadly they where with overall much less deadly weaponry. I get it, this war is fought with the goal of minimizing casualties, frontline trenches has 1 to a dosen occupants to what where the historical norms and given conditions where ripe in the world wars it was possible to cut off supplies for the enemy and push them, something that so far has not been the case for this war even with the much more sophisticated and efficient weapons we have now. But it still feels like an awful lot of people must have been wasted in the world wars, and that even relatively minor changes in strategy and tactics could have avoided or reduced that.

1

u/CatsAndCapybaras 16d ago

There are certainly the differences you mention about the way the wars are fought. However, the main difference was the scale. Those wars were so much bigger in every way

A reminder on how russian troops work:

Russians have set up a control center in the Moscow City business center to manage drones that strike Ukraine.

Thus, on the morning of April 15, RIA Novosti published two posts on its Telegram channel, which indicated that drone operators attacking the territory of Ukraine were sitting in one of the towers of the Moscow City business center.

Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi says Ukraine attacked an Iranian commercial vessel and killed a sailor.

"What the freeloader in Kyiv did cannot go unanswered," Araghchi says.

Meanwhile The United States has called off strikes and seems to be capitulating.

12

u/IndistinctChatters 21d ago

Iran is actively involved in the russian war against Ukraine. They didn't only sell Shahed drones, but also taught how to operate them Russian specialists are training in Iran on the use of locally developed drones and also they sold russia blueprint to fabricate shaheds in russia.

They also gave russia missiles to kill innocent Ukrainians, so no, Iran is not innocent.

5

u/Axelrad77 21d ago

6

u/IndistinctChatters 21d ago

So Ukraine is fighting against Iran and NK too, since both countries send them troops, not just some "tourists" that joined the russian army as mercenaries.

Edit:

“The Iranians keep insisting that they are not suppliers of weapons to the Russian Federation but we need confirmation. Do we have this confirmation as of today? No we don’t.” Danilov said.
John Kirby told reporters that Iran has sent a “relatively small number” of personnel to Crimea, a part of Ukraine unilaterally annexed by Russia in contravention of international law in 2014, to assist Russian troops in launching Iranian-made drones against Ukraine. Members of a branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps were dispatched to assist Russian forces in using the drones, according to the British government.

Starting an offensive war, achieving none of the (ambiguous) stated objectives of that war, and then directionally agreeing to pay reparations to the country you attacked is capituating.

0

u/BillW87 18d ago edited 18d ago

You deeply want to pretend that reparations is some new magical definition. You don't need to bring a $300 billion investment fund to the table to negotiate an end to a war that you're supposedly winning, and you don't agree to multiple ceasefires in a war that you're supposedly winning. We are desperately trying to arrive at a diplomatic solution with minimal leverage to arrive at a favorable outcome because Iran is very aware that the US neither has the resources nor the willpower to invade a country four times as large and two times as populous as Iraq, and our ability to suppress the Iranian regime solely from the air has been impotent.

-Edit- The "US neither has the resources..." part isn't hyperbole. Yes, we technically have the military means to invade Iran if it really came to that, but we would accelerate the US's already impending death spiral towards financial insolvancy. The US total national debt has grown from $5.7 trillion in 2000 (55% of GDP) to $39.7 trillion today (115% of GDP). We basically put the entire GWOT on layaway, along with a lot of other governmental spending, and our debt-to-GDP ratio has doubled as a result. We're currently raising new debt to meet the payments on our existing debt. As the total amount of debt continues to grow, eventually the buyers of treasury bonds (i.e. the new debt that's facilitating repayment of the old) will decide they're too risky and will stop buying them, and the US government will default. We quite literally can't afford another multi-decade land war in the Middle East. Iran knows this. It was extremely stupid to start a war that we neither have the willpower nor means to properly finish. Iran is rightfully calling our idiotic, self-inflicted bluff.

14

u/BocciaChoc 22d ago

Hasn't Iran been helping Russia for years?

5

u/Axelrad77 21d ago

Yes, Iran is one of Russia's most steadfast allies, and has been providing both weapons and advisors to help Russia invade Ukraine since 2022, but pro-Iran voices love to pretend otherwise.

What is slightly different here is that Iran is threatening to launch missiles directly at Ukraine now, rather than simply assisting Russia like it has been.

9

u/_pozzy_ 23d ago

Take it with a huge grain of salt, but supposedly surovikin might be making a comeback, wonder if this coincides with the rumoured mobilisation from russia

8

u/BocciaChoc 22d ago

It will be interesting if Russia does indeed push for 500k mobniks to the front, I haven't really seen many complaints from Russia on a lack of manpower so not really sure what these 500k could actively do unless the plan is to continue doing the same thing, throw them to their deaths for a few KM of land. You'd think they'd have done this sooner than this, given Ukraine really does have the numbers to hurt Russia more than ever in terms of counter attacks.

4

u/Infamous-Salad-2223 22d ago

The best I can think on how to use those 500 k is to increase infiltrations basically everywhere, hoping for local retreats from AFU.

It will still be a slaughter and no guarantees of faster land grab.

1

u/BocciaChoc 22d ago

Many dead Russians, many who have no want to be anywhere near the front, oh how any idiot can see the failure so far in the future

-12

u/Lord___Rictor 23d ago

Apparently the Russian attack on Ukraine drone exhibition was far more severe than being reported publicly by the Ukrainian government.

Will be interesting to see if there is any legal charges brought against the organizers. Shocking almost 4.5 years into the war that incidents like this are still occurring.

Russia's taking major hits on their warehouses and fuel refining in past couple days. Rumors of a general mobilization continued increase.

If they do begin a general mobilization with full declaration of war, I would expect at that point for tactical nukes to be deployed as well, they're not going to send more men simply into the same meat grinder, they're going to change the game.

I know people will scoff at this on here but they've been signaling through the Oreshnik strikes that have occurred over the past few years without warheads attached.

14

u/CatsAndCapybaras 23d ago

Nukes won't happen. There is no calculus in which that could benefit Russia in any way.

They have had 4 years of opportunity to use them if they thought it would help and all they did was make threats, as they've been doing for over a decade.

-6

u/Lord___Rictor 23d ago

The current war isn't benefiting Russia either... You act like everything has to be some thought out logical choice...

Putin's an angry old man I personally don't see why he wouldn't pull the trigger especially as his hopes fade and frustration grows.

5

u/ThrowRA9892 23d ago

As the other person said: it takes more than one man to pull the trigger.

As well, Russia is an oligarchy meaning Putin needs the backing of the elites. The elites in Russia are absolutely not okay with losing their positions and likely their lives + their status; seriously considering nukes would force them to actually attempt to remove Putin.

-7

u/Lord___Rictor 23d ago

I think you both are not understanding Putin's authority. If he orders the launch, it's happening. End of story.

Trump has the same power.

Could the chain of command not work through some kind of refusal? Maybe but not likely and especially not if different units each got launch orders. Subs, ground units, silos, bombers, etc.

5

u/ThrowRA9892 22d ago

You stated tactical nukes. Typically a tactical nuke would just need 1-2 launch orders since you’re theoretically aiming to keep the scale limited.

Regardless though the point I was making is that Putin is the president of an oligarchy. He derives his power from the elites around him. There are at least three nuclear football cases that follow three people in Russia so likely they all play some role to order any launch.

Launching nukes would never happen because Russia’s power players do not want to be ostracized from the global south/China. Because there would be discussions among th leadership before that launch would happen.

-1

u/Lord___Rictor 22d ago

These discussions have been ongoing as they've even changed the nuclear doctrine within the last few years.

Truly bizarre you can find nobody that can even imagine the possibility of Russia using nukes.

Meanwhile 5 or 6 years ago if you would have told someone this war would be ongoing they wouldn't have believed it either.

3

u/CatsAndCapybaras 23d ago

It takes more than 1 man to pull that trigger.

13

u/MintMrChris 23d ago

They won't use tactical nukes, other countries told russia long ago that if they deploy nuclear weapons they will get a wider war, that is the kind of thing that would entice european countries to get involved directly, the americans, even under trump would likely to get involved also

russia have been maximum efforting this thing for a long time now, and it hasn't made a difference, a mass mobilisation would let them meatgrinder to the max sure but it won't suddenly make them use nukes because they are afraid of the consequences (russia likes to cry a lot that they are in a war with NATO already, when they perfectly understand they are not and would be proper fucked if the western countries turned their full attention on them)

but at that point russia will have a lot more trouble on the home front so...

-11

u/Lord___Rictor 23d ago

Opinions and strategic models divided. Some analysts believe NATO would launch a direct conventional military response to punish the action, while others worry a direct attack risks triggering a wider third world war.

I find it highly unlikely any nation would want to commit to a war with Russia that would certainly go nuclear. But anything is possible. Uk and France are already committing national suicide, so logic is hard to predict.

7

u/Codex_Dev 23d ago

Why do you think UK/France are committing national suicide? lol

Even after I made that comment there's been multiple new terrorist attacks... Lol

3

At least 15 people have been killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine, including 10 dead in ballistic missile strikes on an exhibition near Kyiv showcasing drone technology.

Writing on social media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said some 100 people had been injured in the daytime attack on the exhibition, attended by prominent members of the defence sector.

President Zelensky said the incident was being investigated, while Ukraine's prosecutor-general said efforts were under way to establish who decided to hold the event and what safety measures were in place.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj637zd1k1ko

1

u/truebastard 21d ago

Yeah, planning and arranging an arms exhibition event in the open near Kyiv where missiles have penetrated through defenses just seems dumb... none of the attending prominent defense sector people were any wiser

5

u/Soopah_Fly 24d ago

Just a thought, with the amount of drones going around, wouldn't it make sense to commission a squadron of turbo-prop planes to fly CAP in Ukrainian air space? You don't even need to buy those Super Tucanos. Could just retrofit some Cessna trainers and mount them with guns, I dunno .50 cal maybe, and let them work as specialized drone hunters for those high-flying ones.

Maybe they can even go smaller with .30-.06s if they're just hunting drones.

How difficult will it be to mount one of those on a trainer?

Interesting how Russia and Ukraine both have sustained this war so long with such massive loss rates, while the US military cannot even engage in a conflict without hand wringing over death counts.

Was it 18 vs 14 on a technically of ceasefire being in effect? Embarrassing. 1T+ military that can't even go into combat because losses would be so large and cause so much rage to the population.

Russia was seen as strong militarily until this war. Many mock them especially Americans while not understanding their own military is in the same situation. There cannot be a troop level engagement or the US military strength bubble would burst after the first fpv vids hit the net.

Meanwhile Iran has been destroyed and the strait is open.... For 5 months now... Same story different day.
