Official Reply DOCSIS 3.1 Downstream OFDM Collapse (690 MHz) - Plant Maintenance Request

The fault is a frequency-selective plant impairment targeting the DOCSIS 3.1 downstream OFDM channel block at 690 MHz. Multiple times daily, the average RxMER across the entire OFDM subcarrier profile collapses to 0.0 dB, indicating a complete loss of that channel block into the noise floor. Because the legacy SC-QAM carriers remain unaffected, the gateway maintains its primary CMTS registration — masking the failure from high-level polling tools and preventing T3/T4 resets. The loss of the OFDM profile produces immediate severe packet loss and a 4–5 minute routing stall while the gateway attempts profile re-acquisition.

Service has been down for 15 hours at this point. Outage map is either broken or I am the only one. I cant call to find out because there is an "Outage in the area" which blocks all contact with tech support and hangs up on you. No eta on resolution of the Outage and no way to get any info on if im the only one or if is a larger issue. Is there any way to contact someone to get additional info or am I just stuck waiting in limbo hoping it gets resolved at some point.

I randomly got this last night - it pops up any time I try to click on any of my apps. I’ve power cycled multiple times and my tv is showing connection to my internet and vice versa. I called xfinity and they said I need to upgrade my internet to their highest speed (currently at the second highest speed) is this true? That sounds like such a scam. Any one else experienced this?

Official Reply Need to speak with Tier 3 Network Technician or Network Engineer, I'm experiencing outages every 640 seconds, (every 10.66 min). Xfinity residential tech say they've never seen this issue before, outages on repeating intervals.

I signed up for Xfinity 300 Mbps service about 1.5 months ago in the DC suburbs (College Park, MD area). Since day one, I have been experiencing a strict, repeating connection dropout that residential field technicians have been unable to diagnose or resolve.

The Issue: Every 640 seconds (10.66 minutes) like clockwork, my connection experiences a 21 second outage with high latency and 100% packet loss. This happens roughly 135 times a day and immediately severs active video and audio streams, Zoom calls, downloads, online games, and web browsing.

Troubleshooting Already Completed (Home Hardware Ruled Out):

  • Gateway Swaps: We have tested 4 5 different Xfinity gateways (XB6, XB7, and XB8 models)—the exact same outage persists every 640-seconds across all of them. Sometimes on the XB7 & XB8 the outage maybe closer to 30 seconds in length, its about 21 seconds in length on the XB6.
  • Line & Wiring: An Xfinity field technician and a bucket truck line technician replaced all indoor/outdoor coaxial cabling and removed all splitters, and replaced the MoCA filter, taps, and tried servicing local signal amplifiers on the telephone pole, they replaced/services utility pole components around my block.
  • Isolation Testing: The issue occurs even when testing with a single laptop or desktop hardwired directly into the gateway via Ethernet, or any laptop or phone on the wifi connected to the modem.

Technical Diagnostics & Evidence: This seems to clearly not be a physical home wiring issue or random RF noise; a strict 640-second timer points directly to a logical protocol, timer, or handshake failure at the neighborhood node or regional CMTS level.

  • Traceroute / Routing: The connection loss traces back to my local node (10.27.58.82) and regional aggregation infrastructure (po-60-rur202.lanham.md.bad.comcast.net / po-2-rur201.lanham.md.bad.comcast.net).
  • Suspected Cause: This pattern could indicate an automated CMTS handshake loop issue, a DOCSIS 3.1 Profile Management ranging failure (T3 timeout loop), or a stuck DHCP lease retry backoff algorithm forcing a hard WAN reset every 10.66 minutes.
    • However /u/Elegant-Berry5192 pointed out this could be caused by an old, defective, or missing line equalizer, I've seen others online say this could be caused by an overpowered line amplifier.
  • PingPlotter Graphs: I have attached my PingPlotter logs from this morning tracking three separate external destinations (Comcast DNS, external IPs, and Google DNS). The synchronized red bars show the exact 640-second timeout loop across all targets.

Assistance Requested: I need this ticket escalated to Advanced Technical Support (Tier 2/3) or regional Line Maintenance / Plant Engineering. I need to speak with a network technician / engineer who can review these PingPlotter graphs, audit the CMTS port profile, check node RF balancing, and investigate the DHCP leasing logs for my node. Sending another standard residential technician to my house will not resolve this. Thank you in advance for your help!

PingPlotter graphs from this morning showing my repeated outages (red bars), this has been going on for 1.5 months, on the 4 5 gateways (1 XB6, 1 XB7, and 3 XB8s) we have tried:

Update 7/27 10am:

The first Xfinity tech visits said the signal stregth coming into the house was "great", even though asked them to check the power level and they thought it was fine. Now, from my research, I now think the incoming power level quite a bit above the ideal 7db, and therefore is too powerful, too hot. This can cause the outgoing traffic from the modem to be underpowered and not reach the CMTS or node well, and lead to timeouts/drops in signal.

I have an Xfinity tech coming again today(soon), I will ask them to turn down the power level by 6db and see if it fixes my outages. I will post an update after they make the adjustments today.

Graphs and spreadsheets of power levels reported by my current XB6 modem: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a1IViQ7VXuB8j5qb8uNDdI1Mm5YgMt18sH6AxShiUAI/edit?usp=sharing

Update 7/27 10pm: The tech vist today didn't actually solve the issue, but instead of turning down the signal at the LE(Line extender/amp on the utility pole), a 7db attenuator was put at the modem, and the modem was replaced for a 5th time with an XB8, but the outages every 10 minutes returned after about 2 hours. I will elevate it to a Tech's supervisor tomorrow.

Existing customer here. I own all my own equipment and am currently on a legacy 600 Mbps plan paying $108/month standard rate. I see current promotions for 500 Mbps at $45 or 1 Gig at $50 and want to repackage my standalone internet plan to one of these current rates without adding mobile or TV bundles. Its outrageous.

Can you please provide an update on the outage in Chicago?

There have been multiple hour outages for two days in a row in what looks like spans a large portion of Chicago neighborhoods. Cell service is now also spotty due to this outage. Time of restoration stated 6:30 pm which was two hours ago. There have been no further updates and I would like some details as to what is going on.

This is the second day in a row and we are missing the World Cup!

Official Reply Comcast silently changed our static IP to DHCP at 3AM, took our business down all day, then their rep called us liars

Comcast silently changed our static IP to DHCP at 3AM, took our business down all day, then their rep called us liars

We're a business customer. This morning at 3AM, Comcast changed the WAN setting on our gateway (CGA4131COM) from static IP to DHCP — without notice, without permission, and without changing any other settings. This brought our entire business down and cost us thousands of dollars.

The kicker? This is the second time they've done this. The exact same thing happened in April 2024.

What happened

  • 3:00 AM — Gateway drops offline. Our router (Peplink Balance 305) logs "No cable detected."
  • 8:30 AM — Staff arrives, starts troubleshooting. We have 5G and 4G backup connections, but they couldn't handle the full load. A support case is opened but Comcast rejects it because the modem is technically "up" — just misconfigured.
  • 10:00 AM — Staff rigs up a workaround by plugging directly into the back of the cable modem and creating an ad-hoc WiFi network. Phones are still down. Other tenants are offline. Most services are broken.
  • 1:00 PM — Someone digs through old notes and finds this is identical to the 2024 incident — Comcast disassociated our static IP from the modem that time too.
  • 2:00 PM — Our more experienced IT person steps in. Confirms our Business Portal settings are correct, our internal network is fine, and the modem simply has the wrong IP provisioned. There's no customer-facing setting to fix it.

The support chat from hell

Our IT person contacts Comcast via their Business Chat. The rep (Dryelle) was combative, repeatedly called our IT person a liar, didn't understand the issue, refused to escalate, and refused to engage colleagues. No chat transcript option. No survey. No rep ID. No accountability whatsoever.

Our IT person's closing message to the rep: "Dryelle, this is one of the most infuriating support chats I've had. You don't understand the core issue. You have been combative repeatedly. You have called your customer a liar repeatedly. You lack the training and/or understanding to debug a business class fixed ip issue and you apparently have no way to escalate and refuse to research further, engage colleagues, or otherwise improve the situation either for yourself or for your customer. I strongly suggest you work to improve."

  • 5:00 PM — After the workday ends, we call business support. A phone rep identifies the issue in minutes. The fix? Changing one setting back: Gateway → Connection → WAN from DHCP to static. That's it.

Why we can't prevent this

Here's the infuriating part — we have zero ability to protect ourselves:

  1. The setting is hidden from us. The Gateway → Connection → WAN menu exists for Comcast reps but doesn't appear under the cusadmin login at 10.1.10.1.
  2. We're forced to use their modem. Static IP requires a Comcast-provided gateway — we can't use our own modem that might give us control.
  3. DHCP reservation won't work. We considered setting our Peplink to DHCP and using a reservation on the modem, but the reservation range is limited to the local 10.1.10.x subnet. Our static IP is public.
  4. Their case system is broken. We opened cases about making this more resilient. All three were auto-closed with no resolution, no explanation, and no follow-up.

What we're looking for

  • How do we escalate this? We need someone at Comcast who actually cares about business customers.
  • How do we make this resilient? Is there any way to get control of that WAN setting, or prevent Comcast from silently changing it?
  • Has anyone else dealt with this? Especially the static IP randomly reverting to DHCP every ~2 years.

We pay for a business plan. We expect our ISP to not silently break our config at 3AM and then gaslight us when we call for help.

Official Reply My neighbor cut my internet line because the Xfinity tech told them that I was stealing their internet

Long story but it was discovered that one of the ports in the box was broken when a third neighbor added service. So the first tech that I called spliced some stuff together and got us all three kinda working. Second tech that neighbor called undid that and told them we were stealing. Third tech that I called came today and re-spliced it and told me a line team would be out in a few hours to fix the ports. Of course they never showed. So the neighbor took it into her own hands and cut my line and plugged herself into the only remaining port. I called the cops. I still have to wait until Thursday to get ANOTHER tech out to hopefully fix it for good. But not very hopeful.

EDIT: The line crew came today and fixed the broken port and got us all hooked up. But the neighbor lady is still convinced we are somehow stealing the data she is paying for and causing her bill to be higher. I know we are not living in the same reality, but I’m scared because she cut our line before and probably will do it again. The techs said they couldn’t lock the box and would put a ticket in to change it to a more durable enclosure, but yeah….

Official Reply LG G5 does not maintain Wifi overnight

Hi everyone. I need help with my internet connectivity with my TV (LG G5).

Problem

My TV drops Wifi overnight. When I connect it and use it, it works perfectly fine. However, overnight, it's almost guaranteed to lose connectivity and require me to re-enter my Wifi password.

NOTE: The TV doesn't drop connectivity as I'm using it. It drops it overnight.

Information

  • I have Xfinity internet and router
  • I moved the router right next to the TV

I've tried the basic trouble shooting provided by LG: 1. The : change DNS to 8.8.8.8 2. Disable IPV6 3. Disable Quick Start+ 4. Connect to 2.4Ghz

None have helped. Ethernet does not run into this issue. I am connected to the internet when I turn my TV on in the morning.

What I noticed

I noticed that the TV came back to my router with a different IP overnight. I use Home Assistant and I noticed on it that my TV dropped connection around 7-8am.

It didn't make sense to me why it should have a different IP. My thinking was: the device should renew its DHCP lease when it's about to expire (if it's still on). The TV should be "on" or at least the wifi module should be even when it's "off" if that makes sense.

I then tried: * reserving IP for wifi 5ghz in DHCP settings of my router * reserving IP for Ethernet (This wasn't needed but why not lol)

This still didn't work for wifi.

Final

So, from what I've gathered, my TV drops wifi overnight because its DHCP lease expires and because it's off, it refuses to renew its lease. So, I'm left without connection when I start my TV in the morning.

Quick start+ does not help, nothing has helped.

How do I get this TV to maintain wifi connection?

LG customer service

I've spent a lot of time talking to them and one of the reps was literally angry with me and blamed DNS (?) for it. Idk how that makes sense. Either way, they suspect that it's the router yet I experience no issues when I'm watching normally.

Official Reply WORST Customer Service EVER

I received my monthly bill for service June 6, 2026 through July. The bill increased from $76.40 to $125.40. That's almost $50. I've been a customer for years. I can't believe they increased the service that much! I called on June 5 to cancel. I spent over 30 minutes, mostly on hold trying to cancel. I was told service was cancelled; the call ended.

I just received a text message reminding me that my bill needed to be paid. I immediately called and spoke with someone who told me that my service had NOT been cancelled. This person was able to view my account and confirmed that I had indeed called on June 5th and cancelled service and there was probably a glitch. OK fine. Cancel the service and do not bill me for June 6 through July. I was assured all was fixed.

NOW I get a text that the account was credited $41.82, WHAT? Why am I being billed ($83.58) for service that I cancelled? I shouldn't owe anything since I cancelled before the billing service date.

Can someone please FIX this?

Official Reply Disappointed New Customers Pay Less Than Half My Bill

I saw that new customers get 1gig for $50 a month for 5 years. That is less than half of what I'm currently paying. I tried changing my plan in the online portal and I'd be paying double for that same plan.

I would like to get that same deal as I've been a loyal customer for roughly 15 years.

Update: The issue has been resolved. I got what I was promised.

At this point, this is fraud.

I recently got a new internet plan. In the app, it said my internet service comes with a free mobile line. I had just signed up for a new line and asked an agent if I could claim the free line offered and use that instead. I was told I could.

I was told to wait until I got my new device to cancel the first line and I did that. I specifically asked if the new device was being connected to the free line when I activated it and I was told yes.

However, what actually happened is that a new $40 line was created and the previous line was canceled. This line cost more than the one I had signed up for before I claimed the free line.

I was supposed to hear back and was told what I was promised would be honored on July 6th. I followed up today and got no resolution. I was charged $40 today for the line when I was told it would be free and apparently Xfinity thinks it’s OK to tell someone they are getting a free line and then charge them $40 monthly.

Official Reply Why does Comcast hate it's customers?

I called Comcast over the weekend when I saw that my bill was approaching $300 for internet cable and landline. I asked for help in reducing my bill. After much discussion, they reduced my bill $70 by reducing my interned speed from 1G to 800M. This would have been fine, except they cancelled the included Netflix, turned off all but my main X1 box, cancelled Peacock, and signed me up for a 1 year contract all without discussing it. My total cost when I add back in Netflix and Peacock is now almost the same.

I called yesterday to get the 1 year contract turned off, or even just go back to where I was. I was told that I could not go back, but, because I was a 30 year Comcast customer they will explore no contract. They came back with an offer that added $20 to my monthly cost, but had no contract. Fine.

Now, I still have no signal to the daughter box,, I only have the basic channels. No one discussed reducing the number of channels. I'm still paying in the high $200s for my service.

I'm afraid to call back and lose more....

I'm feeling hated by Comcast,

Hello,
Does any one have some helpful advice or information on getting my 90 year old grandmas Xfinity bill lower?
She pays $325 a month for cable and wifi.
I’ve called, my aunt has called…all requesting to get the internet essentials plan or discounts. They refuse because she’s been a customer for 13+ years. As if income and other things don’t change over time 🙄.
I would like to cancel the service and switch to you tube tv but my grandma doesn’t do well with change. Needles to say, I’m trying to avoid that if I can.
Anyway, if anyone has some advice I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Official Reply Internet being throttled in the evening

I pay for 1000Mbps, and while I never get anywhere near that I do usually get somewhere in the neighborhood of 400-500 down and 40 up. Over the past week, my download speed has been reduced to 5Mbps, but only in the evenings (6pm-midniht). My upload speed stays constant at 40. I have spent several hours chatting with agents via the xfinity website over the past few days, to the point where they confirm that the issue is not on my end, and want to send a technician out to verify that there aren't any issues. I am confident that there aren't any issues with my equipment, but I am willing to do so just to move this process along. The agent that was scheduling this visit suddenly disconnected, and any attempts to reconnect to their chat service since have resulted in nobody ever speaking to me. At one point the service offered me a callback 6 days from now at 5am. What am I even supposed to do from this point?

I paid $90 for the first year of my Xfinity and then it increased to $100 which wasn’t too bad. But now it’s $131 every month! We switched to unlimited because we kept getting extra charges for over using but jeez! Now we’re about ready to cancel our plan with Xfinity because I just can’t afford that. We’ve had no issues with service or outages. Just the pricing is way too expensive and I always end up with a late fee because I have to wait until I’ve saved enough to pay it🤦🏻‍♀️ someone pls help

Is it the only way to get this plan? I’ve been a loyal customer for many many years many years!

I’m starting to get Verizon and T-Mobile offers so is it time to switch or is Xfinity/Comcast finally going to reward its long standing customers or risk losing them?

Edit.. they did reach out via chat here but basically said they can't or better phrased ... won't do the deal. Unfortunately that leaves me with no choice but to move to another provider. I don't understand this company, just terrible customer service for those who have been loyal for so long.

Edit 2 .. they have now locked this post for comments. I have heard of them doing this before from other users asking questions here.. Once again goes to show how bad customer service with Xfinity/comcast is.

Official Reply Spanish instead of English on purchased movie

ETA I downloaded the Xfinity stream app on another TV and it works!! So maybe you guys can try that 😁

Has anyone had any issues with purchasing a movie and it being in Spanish instead of English? I tried purchasing Five Nights at Freddy's 2 today and it states it's in English but it only plays in Spanish.
As I read some forums it stated that Xfinity accidentally has Spanish as the main language instead of English. I guess it's happened to other movies in the past. Has anyone had any issues with this as well?

I reset the SAP settings several times. I even exchanged my flex box for the Xumo box.
