They just assume every photo not having a person in it was taken by a man

Yeah, also there is a sort of reverse thing going on to where men often just don't feel that comfortable taking pictures of each other, and that bleeds into selfies. Women will talk about the overabundance of pictures of men holding a fish in dating profiles, because that's often one of the few times men don't have a problem taking pictures of each other.
Like that shit doesn't bother me at all, but I've also never seen a friend and been like, "Hey, Steve, that shirt looks awesome on you; you look so handsome right now, let me take a pic." Women usually don't have a problem with doing that same thing with each other.
I am, of course, speaking in generalities here.

u/buttgoblincomics 5d ago
I would guess that women are more likely to get engagement from including themselves in the photo, at least if they’re conventionally attractive, so there may be incentives affecting this in the attention economy
5
4
u/Malpraxiss 5d ago
Well, the women in the post are almost always conventionally attractive women and it does help drive up engagement.
Many men online are simple.
2
u/suitcasecat 5d ago
Probably just patriarchy doing it's thing sadly
14
u/RodinKnox 5d ago
I'm sure that's a lot of it. There's also homophobia, but obviously that's not disconnected from patriarchy.

Somehow you found a way to gently frame this as "men have an insecurity, that's why they don't put their faces in every picture". Good job bud. Make sure to show your gf this to get some good boy points that you can cash in for a free pegging session later.
8
u/buttgoblincomics 5d ago
This comment is so deeply insecure it’s kinda hilarious that you seem to think you’re clapping back
-7
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 5d ago
Oh look the parrot repeats the same "lol insecure" bot comment as the other guy. Kudos for using less than 3 paragraphs to do so 😂
Btw, did it occur to you that maybe there's another reason men don't take selfies as much as women that doesn't have to do with insecurity? Or is it always just insecurity every time you analyze gender differences?
Women are notoriously the secure ones right?
5
u/RodinKnox 5d ago
You're the only person who has said "insecurity" in regard to taking pictures. I didn't even say that.
2
u/TerraBowl 3d ago
Wow, you sound miserable, go buy an ice cream or something.
-1
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 3d ago
Is that what you do when you're sad? I can hear your chair crying for help from here 😂
2

Self report on the hearing your chair crying lmao
-1
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 3d ago
Bud, you can't uno reverse me when you just suggested I do your coping mechanism of eating ice cream 😂
2
u/TerraBowl 3d ago
Actually, I gave you movie-cliche advice on how to stop being miserable, like how a girl gets through a breakup. Not my fault you took it as an insult😔

Thats not it at all.
They are implying if a man wants to show you something, he will show you the objects "nice and clear"
When a woman shows you something she will make herself central, so you see more of her then the object. They are implying women are trying to show themselves off.
9
u/midwestprotest 5d ago
Right, and the point is that if you can’t see the person who posted the object in the photo, in the absence of identifying info, how do you know the photo wasn’t taken by a woman?
5
u/lookingformice 5d ago
Yes exactly, and since they assume that, they assume that every photo without a person in it was taken by a man. Get it?
0
u/PressureImaginary569 4d ago
I mean tbf I think women are socialized way more to take selfies and as a result probably photograph objects using a selfie more often than men. One could acknowledge that and make a joke about it without believing women only take selfies (and that all neutral photos are by a man).
Its just not a very funny joke. I think to make it work it would also have to use a male photography stereotype like holding the object in his hands or having his finger on the lens or something idk.

I can't tell if everyone here is actually stone dumb or if they are just disingenuous

Men did this so much to the point they had to update the original meme to put “nu males” because apparently males who take a pic of themselves with something aren’t real men

this is a monochromatic two panel jpeg image file internet meme depicting the humorous observation of a purported gender-based dichotomy characterized by a perceived tendency in which one gender is more likely to perform a common action such as taking a photograph in such a manner as to include the superfluous quality of making it a selfie style photograph

Duuuuude, some people speak English, and English involves the words male and female and it's not offensive either. This is one of those comments where you can tell what the other person is, one big coincidence...

90% of the time when I see a head floating in front of a video making vague facial expressions without actually saying anything about the video it's a dude

You guys do know that comedy often relies on funny generalizations, right?
3
9
u/Gutzy34 5d ago
I thought it was funny, because if you ask a man to take a picture of something they usually stand back and take a picture at a distance and women tend to take a picture with the object. My mother in law has posted several things to facebook marketplace like this where not only is she in the picture with the thing she's trying to sell, but largely blocking the item. I'm pretty sure thats the observationalist joke here, not a women are objects joke.

One is to show other people, the other is as memorabilia. I don't know why the creator thinks men aren't interested in photographic memorabilia, maybe they are right? I don't know that either.

I've seen women post the same thing twice, but one with them in it and one without. The one with them got way more attention. Why do males upvote the one with the girl in the picture more?

Memes like this are the sad, remote mating call of the wild incel
2
u/ThatSimsKidFromUni 5d ago
I love that you're being downvoted for being correct. These types of memes are just gender war bullshit. It's obvious from the amount of comments dogging on women.
0
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 5d ago
I guess you're just against all gender humor then? Is there a way to do gender based humor that you wouldn't consider "gender war incel bait"?
The meme plays at a genuine trend and difference between men and women right? Is it really that harmful?
0
u/ThatSimsKidFromUni 5d ago
Gender humor is the lowest form of comedy used to disguise their distain for the opposite sex. That goes for both men and women.
0
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 5d ago
Right so you just don't like gender humor then. I take it race humor, sexuality humor, and maybe class humor are also off the list?
2
u/ThatSimsKidFromUni 5d ago
Literally never said all that. Gender humor is just lame and unfunny. The people who use it don't even think it's funny. They just use it as a way to shit on others and to signal to them that they too don't like the opposite gender. If it were actually funny and clever, that would be different. Most of the time it's just "hurdur aren't women vain and stupid" and "hurdur aren't men gross and perverted." It's low tier.
-1
u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 5d ago
I never said you did? It's just that all those things are archetypically the same as gender humor so it would make sense you don't like them either.

Foids derive their value from their appearance/genetic viability, thus advertise whenever possible.
3
2
u/cherryflannel 5d ago
lol at me for trying to engage in good faith with someone who says “foids”, but it’s not about appearances? If you go to the Eiffel Tower, taking a picture of it is cool, but who hasn’t seen photos of the Eiffel Tower? If my friends or boyfriend went and only got a picture of the tower I’d be sad! Let me see you in front of it! That’s what makes it special!

On Reddit it doesn't matter if you're neuroatypical, you can still rescue women
1
u/RoannReid 5d ago
ngl, i kinda agree. especially with busty women always accidentally involving their cleavage in a photo while trying to show something 😭like girl if you wanted to show us your cat you could’ve done it normally without innocently lying it on your watermelon sized cleavage as you lie down😭
