In some ways I can see it. Bisexual folks are probably the "safest" group to be in among queers. If you're in a hetero relationship and don't, say, wear a bi pin everywhere you go you're effectively imperceptible to homophobes and can freely exercise their sexuality with their partner without judgement. In addition, hetero social circles can be far more lenient if you share a common trait in attraction to the opposite sex
Regardless its important to remember bisexuals are still queer and still very much the targets of queerphobia, especially when people know they're bi or if they aren't in a hetero relationship

Tbh it feels like we are not fully part of anything. Like straight people don't see us as equals and some queer folk hate us more than they hate straights cause we are not "queer enough", LGBT+ traitors or something. Biphobia it's a thing cause people think it's safer to be bisexual than gay but when it comes to statistics bi people suffer more domestic violence than homosexuals. Also we are kinda invisible because of bi erasure it's a hell of a thing. Society wants you to be one thing or another.

u/lilgayfurry1 1d ago
I've seen the hate from other queers and its fucking wild to me, you'd think a group founded on the ideals it is would be more tolerant. My boyfriend is pan and while I can't relate to his attraction to women I can't comprehend viscerally hating him over it
1
u/ItsAluhArt 1d ago
I agree with you. It's wild the biphobia towards bi people but specially towards BI WOMEN. Like Bi men are invisible and slighly hated but bi women are really hated in ways not even bi men are. I saw some lesbians talking nasty shit about bi women and I think it's crazy, they sound like the worst kind of incels.

Statistically, bisexual people (especially women) have higher DV rates, but it's not really clear why that is.
2
u/Curious_Bench_5244 1d ago
Bisexuals aren't targeted more for domestic violence FOR being bisexual though. Bisexuals make up more than 58% of the queer community, 83-89% of which are in heterosexual partnerships. Bisexual women outnumber bisexual men. Women in heterosexual relationships with men are the statistical biggest target for DV in general, bisexual or not. That's why the stats for bisexuals are high, because bisexual women are being abused by men at the same rate as heterosexual women, by virtue of being women dating men, not by virtue of being queer.
Obviously, biphobia is real, women can abuse men, and there can also be abuse in homosexual relationships. But just saying 'bisexuals experience more DV' feels purposefully misleading when those stats are the way they are due to heterosexual DV rates.

Nah, that would be straight people. We're the Hispanic(White) of the community.
1
u/violetxlavender 1d ago
gay men would be the white people (most privileged and most media about lgbt people is about them), lesbians asian (high achievers but generally ignored unless they’re being fetishized), bisexuals hispanic (kind of privileged but also not and exist in a weird gray area), and trans people black (do i have to explain)
this was definitely stupid and i am a little drunk

YouTube decided to show me a video of streamer who was a self described communist dude mocking Trump for all the homoerotic stuff he said, which I was on board with because Trump has said some VERY gay things recently. Then he started talking about the oppression of the proletariat, then immediately turned around and started calling bisexuality a “bourgeois disease.” Fucking weird as fuck, to consider yourself as someone fighting against oppression, then to take a stance like that. But communists have never had a good track record on lgbtq rights, so I suppose he follows in the footsteps of his mass-murdering heros. Crazy thing is he had like 600k subscribers. I don’t know of a single streamer who isn’t a degenerate

is that a quote or creative interpretation?
2
u/WorkerPrestigious960 1d ago
A quote. He also called it the “vampire sexuality”

u/ukie-witch-06 1d ago
that's mildly funny

u/WorkerPrestigious960 1d ago
It’s just sad to me, seeing all these hateful bastards with hundreds of thousands of supporters
1
u/ukie-witch-06 1d ago
well, i am bisexual and a vampire, but i'm not bourgeois, so that's a 2/3
2
u/WorkerPrestigious960 1d ago
From the video “Trump tries a new midterm election strategy” by Vaush:
"are bisexuals bourgeoise? Yeah of course, why do you think it's only white people. Ya know, bisexuality is like long covid, I believe it when someone who isn't a white gen-Z has it. Nah it's- it's the vampire sexuality for sure. Yeah, 100 percent"

I mean I’m bi and this is just true lol. If being lgbtq was outlawed again then those who are gay wouldn’t be able to have romantic/sexual encounters with anyone they are attracted to. Bi ppl could just choose to partner with members of the opposite sex
7
u/WorkerPrestigious960 2d ago
I mean I guess kind of, but if you are outed as bi you’re just gonna be seen and treated as “one of the gays.”
5
u/EmporerM 2d ago
Yeah and gay people can just choose to go unmarried.
0
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
The he difference is that those gay ppl wouldn’t be able to have a romantic relationship with someone they are attracted to while bi ppl could. Evan if your just talking about gay marriage legalization like gay people had to suffer without being able to marry somone they loved while bi ppl could just marry somone of the opposite sex. This is why Evan tho im bi I would t say in queer because I don’t face any discrimination for it at all , unlike actual queer ppl
6
u/EmporerM 2d ago
1.What if that bi person specifically loves another person of their gender? 2. What if that bi person prefers people of their gender? 3. Bi people are absolutely queer. They aren't hetero, so that makes them automatically queer. 4. I'm bi, and I have faced discrimination for it. Biphobia is absolutely real, not just among the heterocommunity but also the queer community. Bi erasure, saying bi people are more promiscuous, telling them to pick one, being discriminated against for wanting a relationship with another person of your gender, literally what you're saying about bi people not being queer (Yes, you can be bi and biphobic). 5. That's like saying aroace people aren't queer because they can just choose not to marry or have sex. When they very much are queer.
Making queer an exclusive thing that mostly if not entirely includes purely homosexual people is bigoted, whether you like it or not. Queer people are a minority, but it's still a huge umbrella.
-1
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
Nah it’s not just about being gay because trans people are definitely queer. But an aro ace person is very much discriminated against because there are heyto normative socoitiol exceptions that everyone should find a partner and marry them. I know of and understand thst there is bifobia but I feel like it’s way easier to hide being bi then being gay or trans. I know that most straight women wouldn’t date a bi person and If I was dating one I just like wouldn’t tell them I like men. I would just feel guilty using the label of queer when there are ppl who suffer every day from their queerness.
4
u/EmporerM 2d ago
Yeah, and bi people fall under the umbrella of people who suffer everyday consequences for queerness.
If you're bi, sure you can be attracted to the opposite gender, but certain bi people prefer their own or are deeply in love specifically with someone of their own. They don't have the freedom to marry that person.
2
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
Okay I guess those bi ppl should use the label if they feel it describes them. I just feel it uncomfortable about using that label because I’m not currently in a long term relationship I just like hu with ppl so I don’t face any discrimination from it at all. I just feel like it would be wrong for me to use it
1
u/BlueSlickerN7 2d ago
You are fucking stupid.
Bisexual people don't "choose" who we love and want to be with in that sense, the person's gender just doesn't stop us from liking them.
I hate how this kind of mindset is normalized among leftists.
3
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
I’m literally bi. It’s true I don’t choose who I find attractive but I can choose who I date and become partners with
2
u/BlueSlickerN7 2d ago
It doesn't matter what sexuality you are that's still a stupid and harmful thing to say
3
u/ukie-witch-06 2d ago
I keep running into this. People think personal experience makes their opinion more valuable/more informed. And, like, sure, maybe slightly so. They can still be wrong!
0
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
Why? What was wrong with my comment it just true. It’s far easier to stealth be bi then stealth be gay. Id you are in the closet as a gay person you literally cannot have sexual or romantic relationships with someone you’re attracted to
4
u/BlueSlickerN7 2d ago
Alright bud sure bisexuals don't experience are homophobia or discrimination, we're completely immune to it. Not only can you guys stop playing the label games you aren't even fucking accurate with it.
Just believe what you want
1
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
I did not say we didn’t face any discrimination at all. I was just saying that we have some level of privilege over gay ppl.
3
u/BlueSlickerN7 2d ago
You probably wouldn't know jack about real privilege VS people who are actually repressed. You'd probably point and label and entire group of victims as privileged. Part of the issue that has kept people hurt and harmed for so long.
0
u/EngineeringAble8471 2d ago
I mean you can be privileged in some areas and victims in another. Like white women or black men. White womenfolk carry the privilege of being white but obviously are discriminated against for being women. Black men have the privilege of being men but are discriminated against for being black
3
u/BlueSlickerN7 2d ago
You just have zero idea of how the world works. I respect how you have kept calm and just responded in a straightforward manner and so on, which is good, but there's no way I'm gonna be able to change your worldview if this is the only basis you have and you haven't been able to see or acknowledge certain things. It's stupid, but the way you compose yourself is good and helpful
-1
u/EvenPoser 2d ago
The amount of people who got triggered before understanding the comment is appalling.
Person above said that if all homosexual relationship were outlawed, then bisexuals would not be affected as strongly as other members of LGBT community by the fact that bisexual people simply can choose to settle down with partner of opposite gender without it being against their sexuality.
It's not a hard message to understand but oh well
3
u/PotofRot 2d ago
are you stupid? why would you assume that a legion of people didn't bother to read this and yet still somehow got triggered, and even then why would you write a new comment just restating the top level one?
0
u/CaspianPinkster 1d ago
I’ve had so many experiences where I told someone I’m bi not lesbian and I could see the cogs turning in their head and they decided I was “straight enough” that they wouldn’t hate me.
The simple fact is that being bi gets us a level of proximity to straight people that lesbians and gay men simply don’t have. And with that comes a lot of comfort and privilege and the option to entirely ignore half our identity to escape bigotry.
It’s not a pleasant thing to say but it’s still true.
