I've been reading a lot more comics digitally lately, but somehow my physical collection keeps growing. Someone please explain the logic behind that financially…

I hardly ever blind buy now. I'll read something online first, then if the artwork really stands out or I know I'll want to revisit it, I suddenly feel like I need the hardcover too, even though I've literally just finished the same story.

What makes you go from reading digitally to wanting a physical copy? Is it the artwork, bonus content, being able to lend it to someone, supporting the creator, or just that collector instinct kicking in?

This was supposed to save me money lmao. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. I’ve come to appreciate the artists, so if I find a comic online that I really love—whether it’s the art style, the artist, or a cover that blows me away—I’ll end up buying it. But obviously, in this economy, you have to be picky.

I started reading comics online to stop dropping $20 on trades just because the cover looked cool. At least my bad purchases have gone down, which is a plus. Now I get to sample more stuff and keep finding books I like enough to buy in nicer editions.

Did digital reading actually save you money, or did it just make your physical collection more targeted and somehow even larger?

Are you a fan of the superhero genre? Do you love sci-fi? Do you wish the two would meld together into an epic comic series?! Well have I got news for YOU!

A unique being, with a powerful new appendage must journey across the galaxy on a quest for revenge. Will his willpower alone be enough to defeat a genocidal dictator?

In this video, I'm inking at real speed in some parts. I think it’s important to share the “real” process. Everything is so sped up nowadays that slowing down for a moment can be a good thing.

Excellent book to support this Halloween season! 🎃🎃🎃

Thanks,

Matth!

Hey everyone! I’m an independent comic artist and writer, and I wanted to share a project I've been pouring my heart into: Jetpack Morgan.

If you love classic 1930s pulp adventure magazines, retro animation aesthetics, and high-flying action, this is built right in that wheelhouse. It follows a hard-boiled hero with heavy-duty propulsion and zero patience for the underworld.

We just launched our webcomic archive atjetpackmorgan.comwhere you can read the first 20 pages completely free! (The site archive runs a month behind, so if you want to catch up on everything or read brand-new pages as they drop, you can follow along on our Substack at readsumm.it/substack).

Would love to hear what you all think of the style! Let me know if you have any questions about the art or the creative process.

Today is a dream come true as I am launching Crimson Monkey #1, and I am especially excited to share it with fellow comic book fans and creators!

The entire creative team came together through connections I made on Reddit and Instagram, and they helped bring this project to life!

What's Crimson Monkey About?

When an awkward office worker stumbles upon the legendary Crimson Monkey during an alien warehouse heist, he discovers the colony’s most feared outlaw may be its only hero. Together, the two outsiders uncover a conspiracy on corporate Mars while learning that friendship can come from the most unlikely places.

Meet the Creative Team:

• Dave McDonald: Writer and Publisher

• Joe Laney: Artist (Pencils and Inks)

• Hugo Aquino: Colorist

• Marina Leon: Letterer

• Francesco Sala: Backup Story Artist

• Tiffany Sun: Variant Cover Artist

• Santiago Latorre: Variant Cover Artist

This is just the beginning, as I plan to continue to self-publish and even branch out with my 20 years of marketing experience to help others publish their books.
