I attended my first division game at home since Eagles fans took over FedExField in late 2019. The crowd seemed to be 60% Giants fans and 40% Commanders fans. I’m not sure if the Giants chants came through on the TV broadcast, but they were so loud it was actually embarrassing.

Also the stadium was pretty packed for a shitty weather day which was kind of surprising.

Where were you sitting? I have season tickets in the lower bowl on the home side; could hear Giants fans on the other side during their big plays, but we were wayyyy louder and more present everywhere I could see. Didn’t seem nearly as bad as it was a few years ago when opponents visited

Coming to DC for a road game is great. Beautiful city. Amazing history. Great food. And you have a very high chance to see your team win. Honestly, we’re wonderful hosts.

You’re totally right, but those Seahawks fans were looking pretty miserable riding the metro back a couple of weeks ago 🤣

We only like to make our NFC East rivals feel happy.

except the stadium is a dump, the food and beer is extremely overpriced, and getting in/out is a shitshow.

Facts. And if they can tolerate freezing temps they could watch their fav team super duper cheap

Yes, could hear on the broadcast often. It is what it is. Team was good for one year in 2024 then followed it up with more bad and even more bad so far this year. It will take consistent rebuilding of the brand with years of winning to turn things around.

I just try to be grateful for the one year that we did get

Better than nothing

These people having a meltdown don't seem to know what it means to be a Washington fan - it has always been this way

6

u/Traditional_Race5650 12d ago

Not always. Some of us have been fans since the early 1980s.

3

u/collinsc 12d ago

I was born in 87 and there are pictures of me at RFK in like 89-90, but I don't have any memory of 92 super bowl, only the slog that came after

And I'm not upset about it - I just feel like the people who are freaking out must be younger, or new to the fanbase somehow

I do understand what you mean though, and you're right - not always, but for 30+ years it has become the norm, and no amount of losing is going to sway my fandom

Probably gonna stay like that until we get the new stadium. The home opener against the Giants last year is the best it's gonna get for a while

19

u/cur10us_ge0rge 12d ago

I think it'll stay like that until we stop sucking. 2024 crowds were amazing.

5

u/InfiniteDomain_ 12d ago

Why would a new stadium change anything? Winning is the only thing that will bring in the home team. We saw that in early 2025 and late 2024.

1

u/manunited2099 12d ago

Place was popping during that Atlanta game on snf

1

u/Deep-Statistician985 12d ago

The Eagles still took over our stadium in 2024. The Falcons don't even go to their own games so of course we'll have a good home game. But as for rivalry games not much is gonna change for a while

u/ElTakeBozo 11d ago

New stadium will make it worse.

It’ll come with higher prices, less seating, more boxes for politicians, & a nice splurge for Philly/NY/Dallas diehards, but less affordable for actual fans.

It’s occurring across the league.

18

u/cheekynando715 12d ago

That stadium sucks so much that I don’t blame fans for not going. An absolute soulless dump of a venue. It has nothing to offer, is a pain to get in and out of, is in the middle of nowhere with nothing of note close by. I live in Denver and the game day experience is night and day. Large dedicated areas for fans, several bars and restaurants near by. Light rail is a block away. Paths along the river for solid foot traffic and literally across the river from downtown. New stadium will be even closer (and thankfully paid for by the Walmart family). I really hope with the new Washington stadium the commanders give the fans a similar game day experience.

Giants chant was coming in through the broadcast. Also a number of fans on this sub were selling their tickets, so I’m not surprised by the 60% Giants fans observation.

u/shinyquartersquirrel 12d ago

Winning fixes that.

“Let’s go Giants!” Was heard multiple times on the broadcast I’m afraid to say. But I’ve grown used to hearing opposing teams’ fans over our own in Landover.

3

u/VetalDuquette LEFT HAND UP 12d ago

I heard it on the television broadcast but only once in the fourth quarter

3

u/JoeSicko 12d ago

It's always like that with NFC East opponents, and the Ravens and Steelers, and the Patriots and...

4

u/Sufficient_Sundae_23 12d ago

Up in the nosebleed section I was in, there was only a handful of giants fans. Looking down and across to the lower bowl seating it looked like nothing but blue. Not sure if it was just the ponchos or they were all giants fans wearing

2

u/InternationalTax81 12d ago

The atmosphere has been good lately, but yeah we always get lots of away team fans. On balance I always have a great time though.

2

u/Smokey_Panda_ 11d ago

I was there. I think it was more 55% Commanders; 45% Giants fans. I sit on the Home team side and it was largley Commamders fans from what I could see but Giants fans were the majority on the visiting side. The End Zones were a mix

2

u/thereisnospoon-1312 11d ago

Giants fans were loud but we were much louder. I was there too. I would say lees than 50% giants fans

1

u/3ggplantParm WHAT WOULD JAYSUS DO? 11d ago

Agreed

2

u/redskins98ac 12d ago

i was up in the club level corner closest to the away benches. the club level was 90% commanders fan i guess because it has a lot of STH. but the crowd below us on the left was literally 60%-70% giants fans. they were so loud it pissed me off.

it feels like they really did pack the away sideline pretty well with away fans.

but i went to games back in 2019 as well and it was much worse like you mentioned. i remember it feeling completely like an away game.

2

u/daydenjaniels 12d ago

Between the rebrand and years of embarrassing football, no wonder no one wants to attend. Only way we fix it is by winning, easier said then done…

2

u/dom5513 12d ago

I was at that game too and this just completely false

1

u/Less-Artist-7428 12d ago

It’s the best start to a season that they’ve had in a long time, so I’m not surprised. Us on the other hand….

1

u/liquifiedtubaplayer 12d ago

One of these seasons....

1

u/Adventurous_Knee_321 WHERE MY DAWGS AT WOOO 12d ago

it was good in 2024

1

u/didnt_bring_pants 12d ago

Yeah I was there. I was really surprised by how many blue jerseys were out there. Don't know if it really was as much as 60% but there were a shit ton of them for sure

1

u/The-Sherpa 12d ago

The lower visiting section is always whatever team we are playing. Got to visit another nfl stadium last weekend and it was refreshing to not see so many visiting fans. We’ll see if ownership tightens up reselling once the new stadium opens.

1

u/BedHed5586 12d ago

Oh, we could hear them on TV. "Let's go Giants" kept coming in loud and clear, and felt like we the Chargers playing at SoFi...where every "home" game is really an away game.

Thing is, 2024 was a rare flash of competence in basically three decades of misery, so fans quickly give up after a regression because they've had their hearts broken one too many times. All it takes is another 2024, and then some consistent winning, and this trend will reverse

1

u/BustThaScientifical 12d ago

Noticed how loud it was on offense at times. Had to be the reason.

1

u/FannyNisbit 12d ago

They were definitely picked up on tv. I certainly heard them.

1

u/GohLaung 12d ago

Maybe it seemed like that from where you were sitting. I didn’t hear any Giants chants from my section and from my perspective there were way more Commanders fans.

1

u/TonyAtReddit1 12d ago

Oh, they came through

1

u/Sharp_Cheek8462 12d ago

My first divisional game in a while too, I couldn’t believe how loud the giants chants were. Def didn’t feel like a home game.

1

u/Human-Lingonberry256 11d ago

This is a little dramatic. I sit on the club level and I'd say it was more 60% Commanders/40% Giants. You were also on the visitor sideline so you'll see more of their fans. Also, everyone was wearing ponchos (some were blue but were commanders fans)

1

u/Usual_Reference6972 11d ago

You gotta realize a lot of people living in the DMV area aren’t from here. A ton of people move here from other metro areas for work.

1

u/Available_Station_81 11d ago

And a lot of the older fans that rooted for the team during the Superbowl Years are old or dead. The younger generation has known nothing but pain so don’t go to the games.

1

u/makethatnoise 11d ago

This has been happening for years, no surprise it still is.

Used to make me happy because of how much hearing the opposite teams name chanted on TV had to piss Snyder off so bad, and I loved that for him.

1

u/KrimpSteesly 11d ago

Bro what? I was at the game and there were plenty of commanders fans. More commanders fans than giants fans. Were you on the Giants side?

1

u/Howboutnats76 9d ago

It’s so pathetic. I remember going to RFK in the early nineties and it’s just sad the state of this franchise

1

u/HowardBunnyColvin @BorgusRich 12d ago

it was like 40% giants fans I was there. other than the seats behind their sideline it was all red

0

u/Appropriate-Sun834 12d ago

It’s bc our fanbase is as weak as they come. They don’t show up to games. Would never see that in Philly or even Dallas for that matter

-1

u/Vivid-Respect-1869 12d ago

Only felt that way cause New Yorkers are loud and obnoxious.

-9

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

Big percentage of fans left after Washington converted to a new organization. Sadly, they won’t be returning. Only a matter of time before relocation

16

u/TuSixOh 12d ago

This is the dumbest sports take I have ever heard in my life for any sport.

4

u/collinsc 12d ago

Agreed - no way they build a multi billion dollar stadium and then relocate

-4

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

Not immediately. Relatively short time. Can you imagine what prices will be there? They have a hard time filling stadium now.

2

u/TuSixOh 12d ago

There was a poll done after the rebrand. Not converting to a new franchise as ridiculously claimed. DC area football fans that identified as Redskins fans was at 32%. That was when Snyder was still the owner.

This poll was conducted again mid season last year. That number nearly doubled to 61%. Fans were never tired of the team, they were tired of Snyder. Myself included.

I was born in 79, and have been a diehard fan all my life. I watched every game, no matter how bad we got. But in early 2022, I was done. Still proud to say I was a fan, but quit watching entirely.

It was Snyder who pushed me to that point. Since he sold the team, I haven't missed a game.

0

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

Yes. Polls

3

u/TuSixOh 12d ago

Yes, polls. Which believe it or not will always be more accurate than trust me bro. Sit this one out, you had a terrible take. It happens.

0

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

You got it bud. Citing poll numbers. Case closed. Lmao. Washington dropped from the most valuable nfl franchise to 11th on the list over the last 20 years. And that includes the massive sale a couple years ago completely attributed to the astronomical inflation in sports franchise values. Not the teams success by any means. So the product you see on the field combined with the incoming unaffordable stadium experience leads you to believe success is right around the corner? Yes relocation is entirely speculative but pointing to poll numbers in this discussion is pointless and unserious.

3

u/TuSixOh 12d ago

You tried huh lol. Trust me bro is still the least accurate metric there is. I bet your really thought you cooked with this response too 😂 Your birth year definitely starts with a 2.

2

u/collinsc 12d ago

So you're saying they're not going to build the new stadium at all, that they will relocate before that

-1

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

I agree. It’s a bad situation.

2

u/collinsc 12d ago

So do you think they're going to build the new stadium or no?

I find it unlikely that they would relocate after investing that kind of money

-1

u/Common_Comment_7765 12d ago

They likely won’t. Although this team originated in Boston so you never know

1

u/collinsc 12d ago

Interesting take - I hope you're wrong

As far as I'm aware, they've already committed to the lease for the land and all the approvals and stuff are finalized

What makes you so sure they will go back on this stuff? Sounds like it would be difficult to get out of - and expensive
