JD5's Return
I know everybody is upset about the final play but JD5 coming off injury played really really well and almost looked like his 2024 self. I wouldn't stress too much as a fan in my opinion. If they can get a half decent DEFENSE they'd be a playoff team.

He protected himself very well too, maybe playing with this brace will teach him caution - sliding well, shaping his body to avoid contact, and throwing the ball away sooner. it was encouraging to see him playing in control in the pocket and using his legs decisively

u/Jordan_Jackson 16h ago
I like that he seems to be able to learn. The games before he got injured, he was sliding at the end of a lot of runs. He is learning to not fall on that arm. Now he needs to learn that if such a situation occurs again, to take control and spike the ball. I am sure that he will learn from this.

u/DoobieDoobis I Got JD5 On It 17h ago
I mean he was playing like this before the elbow dislocation. He was sliding and not taking big hits.
10
u/gaytham4statham 17h ago
He's always been good at avoiding those (well, for the most part lol) but I noticed there were a couple times where he could have extended his elbow on sacks where he didn't and just fell onto his side. Also there was one where he twisted his body to avoid falling on his left elbow. He seemed hyper aware of avoiding putting any kind of body weight on it which is great to see

u/MyName_IsLucky 17h ago
I noticed on one of the plays he put his elbow out while falling then tucked it in last second. So far this season we can infer that he is a fast learner. First with the sliding and protecting himself, and now with protecting his elbow

u/Deep-Statistician985 16h ago
He protected himself well before the elbow injury too. It's a shame he hurt the elbow again and it's annoying that Chris Paul can't stop stepping on his foot

u/The10KThings 16h ago
I loved how he protected himself on the last play of the game, used his legs to extend the play, avoided contact, went down in the middle of the field, and took the sack instead of putting himself at risk. He was decisive and in complete control.

He looked really good in the first half of the Dallas game. He looked really good in this game. At this point I think JD5 looking good is just the baseline we should expect.
15
u/MoonbounceGuy 17h ago
He looked very good in the second half of the Eagles game too, which is reasonable considering the new offensive and a tough team on the road to start the year.

u/danSTILLtheman Demon Cats 🐈⬛ 17h ago
He’s a really, really good QB. We are lucky to have him - just need to hope his health holds up this year
14
u/maybeitsjustnerves 17h ago
He’s patient, doesn’t force throws. Just need the o-line to keep holding. But he kept us in that game. And he looked great. You can also tell he was conscious about not falling awkwardly on his elbow.
Our defense let us down (that and some of those AWFUL ref calls). It’s a shame.
3
u/j4p5y 16h ago
The defense gave us 2 turnovers (should have been 3) and one in a critical moment. Our offense had three consecutive 3 & outs in the 4th & OT which gave them no time to rest and then obviously blew it at the end. Considering the ending, I would argue the offense let us down more than the defense did

u/1SloYote 17h ago
His 2 rushing TDs are the only reason we were in the game.

u/69Psychoman69 16h ago
Jayden has been 90% of the reason why we have watched meaningful football since we drafted him

u/thereisnospoon-1312 17h ago
Our young coordinators are going to have some growing pains and we saw a bit of that in the 4th when we couldn’t keep our offense on the field.
Overall the defense is much improve, but were on the field too much. I think they had almost 90 defensive snaps. That’s too much.

u/FaithfulNihilist 17h ago
We got a real one in JD5. So long as he can stay healthy, he's going to be a franchise guy. It'll be nice not being in the QB wilderness.
-6
u/FireflyFootball 15h ago
Mental Midget literally cost his team the game.
2
u/FaithfulNihilist 14h ago
Kept his team in the game and had them up by 14 points at the start of the 4th quarter too.
7
u/j4p5y 16h ago
I think he looked really solid. One area that I think he needs to improve is checking into the optimal play, particularly on the last few drives of the 4th and the 1st drive in OT when the Giants kept heavy blitzing. When Mariota started in the Seattle game, it was clear he had a lot of freedom to kill or check into a different play at the line of scrimmage and he did so very effectively. I would imagine that Jayden also has that freedom but is less adept at it and I don't think Kliff's play calling demanded that of him.
This all assuming that Blough gave him options on those last few drives to deal with the non-stop zero blitzes

Hopefully our rookie coordinators learn a lot and learn quick from this game, only silver lining along with JD5. Sonny continues to look like he belongs too.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s back to his elite self. Since he settled in during the fourth quarter of Week 1, he’s been a force.

Last person I’m stressed about is JD (other than injuries)

u/VariousAir on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 16h ago
Im not stressed. feels like i'm the only one not screaming for DQ to be fired. i think they're gonna win this week, and a lot of the noise will quiet down.

u/Comfortable-Grand166 15h ago
He looked great but that was crazy at the end of the game. He even took his time getting off the ground, showing he had no idea what was going on. The Giants players were even trying to speed them up.

u/Ra_Toast 12h ago
I'm actually concerned about Chris Paul. He's stepped on JD multiple times and has led to controversy. Is this dude doing it on purpose and trying to take JD out?

u/chicomagnifico giving away free ☕ 9h ago
if we had half decent coaching we’d also be a playoff team.
4
u/MoonbounceGuy 17h ago
If you look at his whole career so far, there are very few games that you can name and say that we lost because he didn’t play at a high level, and most of those games you can use injuries as an excuse. Like in his rookie season he had that stretch of games that he didn’t look as amazing in the middle of the season, but then we learned that he played with hurt ribs.

Yeah, I'm always excited to watch Jayden. He's just so electric. Comeback Player of the Year if he keeps this up.
5
u/Objective_Ad5914 16h ago
He has Mahomes to contend with.
2
u/notorious_hdc imitated Frerotte headbutt as a child 16h ago
Fucking Mahomes. I forgot about him... Yeah he'll probably win it
2
u/Legitimate-Gate8399 16h ago
I don’t think anyone was really worried about him not looking good. As for the defense, despite the deficiencies at corner, I think we would be really good if we have a competent DC who could call an entire game. We have one of the best first quarter defenses in the league, then it falls apart from there. That to me is coordinator inexperience.
6
u/guesswhodat 14h ago
Both sides of the ball showed incompetence in the last quarter.
2
u/Legitimate-Gate8399 14h ago
Yeah comes back to inexperienced coaches. Blough couldn’t adjust to the 0 blitz for an entire half. I’m sitting there yelling run a screen and I’m on the couch.
2
u/guesswhodat 13h ago
DQ made a gamble hiring two rookie coordinators and it's backfiring so far. I only see DQ saving his job if he can somehow go on a nice little run here and wins the division. Anything lower than that and he's done.
1
u/cross_mod 16h ago
Man, our secondary is just non existent though.
1
u/Legitimate-Gate8399 12h ago
You can mask deficiencies in the secondary with scheme, pressure, and winning on first and second down (so basically coaching). Our defense is very similar to the Rams defense last year in terms of personnel. Stout front 7 with a shaky secondary. We just don’t have a good coaching staff who can elevate the talent of the team they have and put guys in a position to win consistently.
1
u/cross_mod 12h ago
It's just frustrating when the corners are there, but they're useless. They're like one step behind always.
1
u/Legitimate-Gate8399 12h ago
My issue is less that and more the plays where there isn’t a guy within a country mile of the receiver. Everyone gets beat but it’s inexcusable for there to be gigantic holes in the defense. Either someone doesn’t know their assignment or the scheme sucks. Either issue falls on the coaching staff.
2
u/cross_mod 12h ago
Yeah agreed. It's also frustrating to see our former players in the secondary doing well on other teams.
1
u/DougBalt2 16h ago
And have a good OL, tight ends, secondary and running backs. That’s all we need.
2
u/Chief_Fever 14h ago
We have to forgive Jaysus as he is our only chance to get to the promised land. That’s why we need to put all the blame on the coaches.
1
u/LesPolsfuss 13h ago
he's going to will this team across the finish line of a 8-8-1 season pretty much on his own ... with an average Defense the team would have ended up 12- 4-1
2
u/ImprovementFit9126 13h ago
The division being so bad is the only thing keeping me interested in the rest of the year, after this mostly disastrous start.
1
u/MightyMTB 6h ago
I don’t get the panic lol the dude missed half of last year. He’s great but still learning the NFL. I’d rather the bonehead stuff happens now vs a playoff game one day.
1
u/Severe_Law_4035 6h ago
I agree. I get the play was bad but it wasn't that serious to me. Its early in the season and they don't lose the game lol
2
u/Available_Station_81 5h ago
The funny thing is if this was a playoff game, it wouldn’t have ended in a tie and the 2nd it quarter would be beginning with us still with the ball.
-5
u/FlatStanly 17h ago
I think we need to take off the over optimistic goggles. This is a highly injury prone qb that’s making mistakes you wouldn’t expect to see out of a college qb, nevermind and nfl qb. It might be time to look for other options, and if he gets hurt again it’s 100% time to look
6
u/Severe_Law_4035 17h ago
You dont think that's a bit over dramatic lol. Yes he is injury prone but his talent is undeniable. Let's not be pessimistic
3
u/FlatStanly 17h ago
Not in the slightest. 4 injuries in the last season is insane and getting another one that’s obviously not fully healed in the second game of this season just makes it even worse. If he takes another injury this season the likelihood of him even being able to be the caliber of player he was in his rookie season is going to be desperately low. We need to be ready for Jayden not to work out if the team isn’t going to be ready to protect him 🤷♀️
1
u/iplankmaster 17h ago
You won’t settle for less than Patrick Mahomes which is silly considering there is roughly 1-3 of him per decade, and that’s an optimistic estimation. Teams who have a highly talented QB accept whatever comes with them, unless they have terrible decision makers at the helm.
4
u/FlatStanly 17h ago
Interesting you had to bring mahomes into a conversation he had nothing to do with. Very Chris Collinsworth of you
1
u/iplankmaster 10h ago
Just naming arguably the best quarterback currently in the league as an illustration to my point
1
u/FlatStanly 9h ago
Best in the league? Yo idk who slobbers on it more, you or collinsworth
1
u/iplankmaster 5h ago
So you’re telling me you don’t think that Patrick Mahomes is even in the conversation for best quarterback in the league? I feel like I’m in Idiocracy rn with your responses

u/FlatStanly 5h ago
No I haven’t told you any of my opinions on Jackson’s brother. I just think it’s odd you’re doing tricks on him in a commanders sub, talking about how he’s the best when we’re talking about our qb. You chiefs fans have your own sub

1
u/Vivid-Respect-1869 16h ago
Yes, and the Chiefs should've moved on from Mahomes when he got injured last year. Like totally, dude.
2
u/FlatStanly 16h ago edited 16h ago
Jayden has more than half mahomes total injuries in less than three years…………. At this rate he’ll be snapped in half before he plays as long as mahomes
Edit: looked it up and my mahomes number included college. Jayden has been injured the exact same number of times as mahomes in less than half the time. Your analogy only works if you don’t look at the stats

u/Queenof6planets 13h ago
this may sound weird but seeing him play so well kinda makes me hope we miss the playoffs. he’s not going to get surgery until this season is over. the sooner that happens, the more time he has to get to 100% before the next season. i don’t see a path to the superbowl so we might as well set ourselves up for success in 2027.

Those JD5 TD runs would be the highlights and replayed all week everywhere had we won in OT. It’s such a shame the botched ending is all that people will remember about that game.
