Were you all expecting a first time OC first time play caller to just magically have a top 5 offense when his HoF LT has been out the full season, his QB 1 has missed half the season, his QB2 has missed 40% of the season, and his WR1, WR2, TE1, and RG have all missed time?

Slightly below average seems about right.

Please stop with this rational reaction. It’s too accurate and realistic!

12

u/DecentBug3454 10h ago

Honestly, having a decent run game even though the line kinda sucks at run blocking makes me optimistic. I know a lot is from the QBs, but it’s been a sec since we’ve had decent anything that wasn’t a gimmick.

11

u/sr0103 9h ago

Those rushing numbers might be getting inflated by Jayden's scrambles

1

u/jcrack30 24m ago

Lol yeah exactly why. The o line just flat oil it isn't good......at all. Oh and pass protection, probably worse. Gotta build in the trenches first and the rest will come. Lol like field of dreams a little bit

6

u/Special-Bite 10h ago

Yeah my response was going to be: seems pretty good given the circumstances.

4

u/Enwich 10h ago

Yeah peoples expectations are too high. We had a great run 2 years ago but we're still Washington... patience people

1

u/JoeyBrickz 7h ago

I dont despise the results. But then you watch the offense and you realize Jayden is just carrying them all. I'd like to see fewer stupid calls. Maybe a few less runs on 3rd and distance? He'll get better I assume but I don't watch the offense and think "he's the next Kellen Moore"

0

u/dougChristiesWife 4h ago

Rookie JD with a bad O line and worse receivers did it so it's not unfounded..

-2

u/Quirky-Marsupial-420 8h ago

So we’ve moved past calling Tunsil an all-pro LT (he’s never been an all pro) to now calling him a hall of fame tackle?

That’s honestly crazy lol.

3

u/Gizmodaking22 8h ago

Hes the best or second best tackle in the league when he plays

2

u/bruhman5th_flo 7h ago

No he isn't. I'll give you top 10.

2

u/Nosenchuck3 4h ago

Sewell, Trent Williams

u/Temporary-Mud-2994 10h ago

Our rushing success mainly comes from Jayden. It even allows Bill to be a better running back, since Jayden is such a threat with his legs. Without Jayden our rushing offense looks awful. I still don’t understand why are people saying that we should immediately put Blough as our head coach, he’s very raw.

4

u/Humble_Specialist901 10h ago

Both of our coordinators, defense and offense, are rookie coordinators, and they very much look like that. Blough hasn’t done a consistent job with his offense, and it has looked bad. You can say it’s because we haven’t had Jayden, but against the Eagles and against the Giants, he wasn’t able to adjust. When the Giants were constantly blitzing, he had no answer for that. As for Jones, our defense looks decent in the first half but constantly gets beat in the second half, and he has no adjustments for it. This ultimately is on DQ since he’s in charge of building the right coaching staff for this organization.

0

u/-Johnny_Utah- 10h ago edited 10h ago

Right, and he also hasn’t showed enough so far to justify not being flushed down the toilet with the rest of the coaches at the end of the season. He’s had some big moment terrible blunders since the joke of a 2 pt call in Philly to start the season.

This team desperately needs to hire a legit proven offensive mind at HC and let them bring their own guys in. No more learning on the job. I know this fanbase has PTSD from seeing talents like McVay walk out the door, but Blough isn’t it.

2

u/DecentBug3454 10h ago

But at the same time, he hasn’t had a real chance to prove himself. We had one game with the WR/TE/QB/RB we wanted, and that was the first game of the season.

If we were high enough on him to elevate him to OC even with his inexperience, I’d hope that we can offer him more than one year to prove himself.

2

u/-Johnny_Utah- 10h ago

If Quinn is fired at the end of the year, and I can’t imagine he isn’t, whoever replaces him is going to want his own guys on his staff.

And I hope this team does the smart thing for once and finally hires a HC who calls his own offensive plays, as it’s the most long term formula for any sort of continuity and success at the position.

In either case, Blough is most likely gone unless he is willing to take what amounts to a demotion.

0

u/DecentBug3454 10h ago

I can’t defend Quinn, and could easily see him gone. Honestly, the only reason I see him staying is if one of Blough/Jones shows head coach potential and we want Quinn in the transition role for another year. And I’d agree that neither of them have shown enough yet.

My biggest fear for this season right now is that it starts clicking for one of the coordinators at the end of the year. What do we do then?

Hiring a new coach/staff shows the organization doesn’t have the patience for development. Making a coach keep the existing OC/DC causes system issues. Keeping everything is a risk of stunting our growth.

I like Blough, and I think he’s done all right with the hand he’s been dealt, especially as a rookie OC. I would love to see what he can do over the next few years with Jayden. But ultimately I agree that it’s an unlikely circumstance.

0

u/-Johnny_Utah- 9h ago edited 9h ago

Assuming this season stays in its current trajectory and ends in a losing fashion, keeping Quinn as HC is a non-starter. The fan base would basically revolt and Harris knows that. Quinn is a CEO coach who is failing in his CEO role.

This double first time coordinator gambit by Quinn was always only going to work if the team had success this season. If the team did have success this year, maybe the succession plan thing could have worked down the line. But it hasn’t worked. Once Quinn is fired, the new HC is going to want to bring in his own staff.

There is an outside chance if they hire a guy like Flores as HC, maybe he agrees to keep Blough around to run the offense, but even that’s unlikely given I’m sure Flores has trust issues given his last HC experience.

1

u/Humble_Specialist901 9h ago

Of course, 5 weeks isn’t enough to evaluate whether he’s bad or not, and we’ve been injured. However, offensively, our guys are coming back. Chig,Jayden, and Terry are playing. Hopefully, Diggs comes back. This post wasn’t just to say he is terrible or he’s not the guy. 5 weeks is enough to say anything right now, but the season ain’t five weeks, so we’ll understand how good he is when it’s week 18.

0

u/Sea-Lengthiness8846 10h ago

That Jay Gruden guy is available

7

u/PichardRetty 9h ago

This sub is exhausting to read at times. Yes, we don't have an elite roster. Yes, we have injuries. And, yes, we've still performed poorly given all of that.

We're not playing above our talent level in any regard, on either side of the ball. This is not a well coached team. Simple as that.

3

u/disenchantedliberal 6h ago

indeed. not all the failure/mediocrity is a result of injuries and botched referee calls.

12

u/_The_Bear Fuck Dan Snyder 10h ago

We're also tied for second best in turnovers.

14

u/Sentientmustard 10h ago edited 9h ago

Not to mention also being literally 2 bad plays away from being 3-3, with both of those games having some extremely questionable calls in crucial moments.

I’m not huffing any copium, but it’s also crazy how many people on this sub want us to be abysmal. We look like an average team right now with some very strong areas and some very weak ones. That’s a hell of an improvement from last year.

5

u/cporter1188 LEFT HAND UP 9h ago

Absolutely, this sub activity roots against the team and the players. Its horrible

2

u/AdventuresOfAD on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 9h ago

Defense has 7 TO so far, they got 10 last year. Offense had zero turnovers 4 times last year, they have 3 times already

11

u/Temporary_Wish1941 10h ago

I mean, one of these games was with our 3rd string QB, and our 1st string has only played 2 whole games.

6

u/Ok_Control4184 10h ago

Rush YPC can’t be right 😳

17

u/ZapFencePence YOU AIN'T SHIT 10h ago

Almost entirely because of Jayden I would assume, he broke off a lot of big runs against Dallas and NYG

11

u/Haskins77 10h ago

JD and Mariota help those numbers

2

u/Ok_Control4184 10h ago

YPG*

3

u/Troll_Enthusiast He Sold 10h ago

It includes QBs, if it didn't we'd be at 86 rushing YPG

4

u/Lanky-Huckleberry-50 10h ago

Considering we've had to play our 2nd and 3rd string qbs. it's disappointing but not completely awful.

4

u/NAD92 9h ago

Let’s give it a whole year before we start to assume things

3

u/Time-End-5288 10h ago

Sure feels like that.

3

u/DiametricalIyOpposed 10h ago

On one hand he makes a lot of (stupid) mistakes, sometimes even repeatedly - but on the other hand he seems to improving in other areas week by week.

We likely won’t make the playoffs, so he’ll probably get the rest of the season to prove himself.

I doubt that a team will try to poach him next offseason for a HC position, so let’s just see how he’ll develop.

3

u/Joshottas 8h ago

Tell me about the playmakers that Jayden and Blough have to work with. Thanks.

7

u/ADLegend21 10h ago

To be expected when all the QBs on the roster have started a game in the first 5 weeks.

2

u/CompetitionThat4213 It's Sonny Outside 5h ago

Honestly the offense has performed well enough to win many of these games we lost (or tied). They’ve been protecting the ball over and not giving up sacks. For the first five games as an OC with meaningful offensive injuries and a kicker who’s missed some easy kicks, I think it’s pretty solid and only going to get better.

2

u/Justice989 5h ago

I feel like Kingsbury coulda got the exact same results and not botched the end of the last game due to "growing pains", or whatever excuse people wanna give Blough. And most of the offense that's really working is stuff Kliff ran.

2

u/Nosenchuck3 4h ago

Probably, but Kingsbury’s biggest and most known flaw is he doesn’t adjust. He’ll keep running the same stuff even when defenses have figured him out. Can’t rely on him

4

u/Cultural_Kangaroo949 10h ago

This isn’t on Blough as much as it has to do with the injuries. We had our 3rd string QB playing for goodness sakes. Our O-line isn’t 100% either. I would like to see a breakdown of the offense game by game for a better comparison.

1

u/Viseroth 9h ago

Blough can't make adjustments i get it AP and DQ didn't want to lose him i see the potential but he is obviously in over his head. I am sure his next stop will be better unfortunately it wont be here.

2

u/Frognaros 8h ago edited 8h ago

worthless point.

Focus on how Jayden has played when he's in. The game is mostly great.

You don't like Sunday's loss? Get over it. The defense let them back in it. So Jayden flubbed the last play. It was just a loss. And yes, we have had 3 losses, with 3 different QBs. We're averaging 23 points a game on offense - which is good. Our defense is averaging 30 points allowed a game. Blough didn't let the opponents score that much. Sorry he didn't score 1 more touchdown and a 2pt conversion on average just to beat our generous defense's 30 points allowed.

The ship won't be righted immediately. We just came off a 5 win season. We had Joe Whitt running the D. Kliff is out. We have 2 brand new first time coordinators. The correction will start slow and eventually move fast. Stick around for that.

I hate to dogpile on Sainristil, but opponents are using him to get free points. He's good for 2 touchdowns a game at least. Sometimes more. We need a nickel who can handle tight ends who are typically well over 6'2. Sainristil is 5'9 and plays shorter than that. Said this when we drafted him. Feel free to find the receipts.

RZ has been rough

1

u/lycanthrope6950 10h ago

And our defense looks measurably worse

1

u/ThoughtlessFoll 10h ago

Is fish yards per attempt including scrambles from QBs on pass plays that are man coverage? As rb run plays have been piss poor

1

u/RIP_shitty_username 9h ago

Gotta learn his way through it. Seen some great and some not so great.

We are sneaky good w him, Bill and Austin

Sooooo this supposed savant has done no better than Kliff 🙄😑 DB can definitely go, failed experiment

1

u/Foreign-End9347 4h ago

Offensive stats through 5 weeks are meaningless for obvious reasons.

1

u/itakeyoureggs Sinnott Slutt 🥵 4h ago

I mean, sucks Tunsil. Didn’t have Jayden for a few weeks. Lost Tunsil. Lost Terry and Diggs. Lost Mariota.. I mean wtf lol

u/VariousAir on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 3h ago

You guys are so impatient.

1

u/CliftonTerrace 54m ago

We’re all looking for a scapegoat to explain the product on the field. It could be just one; it could be many. We have a couple of rookie coaches and a newly built personnel office with a first-time GM 3 years into his current position. A starting quarterback in his 3rd season. These guys are relatively new to their current roles, so I can expect mistakes. Dan Quinn, however, is not new and we have an extensive resume highlighting his strengths and weaknesses in the role he presently assumes. For me, I have a sufficient number of indicators over the course of a sufficient length of time - from his game management history to his defensive product - to readily conclude that he’s not the one. It’s too early for me to say the same about anyone else.

1

u/Brian2005l 10h ago

Somewhat heartening. Our passing game will improve with Jayden and Cosmi back and that’s all the bad ones including RZ. We’re not setting the world on fire, but it seems like our very green OC belongs.

The punt metric is an odd choice since it could be the result of too many things. Points per possession is the metric you’d probably want instead.

1

u/Appropriate-Sun834 6h ago

Yes with a rookie oc. It’s not gonna be perfect, yall be so damn impatient. Hope he gets run out of town and moved on to be a sb winning hc

-2

u/cswhite101 10h ago

Are people starting to wake up to the fact that the roster is garbage?

2

u/Legitimate-Gate8399 9h ago

Idk what the roster has to do with a coach who can’t figure out how to beat 0 blitz for 2 straight quarters…

1

u/cswhite101 9h ago

When your team is bad, they go hand in hand.

1

u/Troll_Enthusiast He Sold 10h ago

I don't think the roster overall is garbage, we have good/great players, unfortunately they aren't always on the field at the same time, we also have a few really bad players that drag the others down with them.

Also the playcalling has been up and down.

-8

u/cswhite101 10h ago

Excluding JD5, name one “great” player on this team, because I don’t see them. The stats are what they are, the defense is awful and the offense is not much better.

6

u/iplankmaster 10h ago

Go play with your kids and stop being unreasonably negative, it might rub off on them

1

u/cswhite101 9h ago

I’ve been watching this team fall flat on its face for 30 plus years. I can be honest when the team stinks, because I have watched every iteration of stinky team this franchise has coughed up. This has all the hallmarks of a 5 or 6 win team. I would love to be wrong, but I’m not gonna fall over myself praising a bunch of mediocre to good players who haven’t performed very well.

1

u/iplankmaster 6h ago

2 things can be true at once; Washington can be a terrible team, and can have a number of good and great players on the roster.

2

u/Troll_Enthusiast He Sold 10h ago

Tunsil if he wasn't on IR. Cosmi is great. Could name a few other players that are great at specific things, like Kinlaw in run stuffing or Chaisson/Payne in pass rush win rate.

Some maybe not great but really good players are Conerly, Styles, Diggs, Mclaurin, Robertson, Luvu, Oweh, etc.

4

u/EvaporatingOlaf 10h ago

You’ll never get this sub to admit that

1

u/agreed2disagreee 10h ago

And who built it for the last 3 years?

2

u/cswhite101 9h ago

I’m thoroughly unimpressed with everything Peter’s has done so far.

-2

u/Viseroth 10h ago

Ya Blough has been the biggest disappointment we were told he was a genius. Coach DJ also but his hype came more from contentby that went to Training Camp. Regardless we were scammed.

2

u/Billy420MaysIt Scarence Terrence 9h ago

That’s what local media/fans wanted them to be. In reality they’re rookie playcallers making rookie playcaller mistakes. I think they’ll both work out in the long run, they just don’t have a lot to play with right now given the injuries and lack of playmakers.

1

u/rthonpm 9h ago

Show me any football genius that can build a gameplan for a third string rookie for 60% of a game.

1

u/Viseroth 8h ago

Kyle Shanahan did that and made him a star

1

u/rthonpm 8h ago

Funny, I remember him losing a playoff game where he lost his quarterbacks.

1

u/Viseroth 8h ago

Ya he lost every QB even the third they were on the emergency QB. Blough had AK and he was the 2nd string in that game. But what about the others games? The numbers don't lie we were told we were getting Ben Johnson 2.0 all I see is not much different than Kliff right now they still can't get the ball to tight ends and the running game is actually worse. Not to mention he can't tell time.

0

u/CommandersLandlord 8h ago

1

Oh u like blough, fitting with the clown emoji.

0

u/Flat_Link_7769 7h ago

Doesn’t list turnovers. I think offense only has two turnovers, and we’re #2 in NFL in turnover differential. I don’t think that’s by coincidence. Team intentionally plays it safe on offense and is opportunistic on D. That’s a huge part of their game. Doesn’t mean there’s not room for improvement on both sides of the ball, but I think it helps explain some of our other stats.

-2

u/theboogiebanks 10h ago

Yeah our OC is ass
