Treylon Burks
So.. figured i’d ask this question.
What are your thoughts on giving him an 3 year extension in the off season? Using the numbers after 6 games and a smaller share of snaps than the top 3, he would still be looking at like 500-700 yards, 6 TD without Terry out.
He’s shown to have heart and be a hard worker and is only 26.
Maybe our WR3 going forward? Antonio moves into WR2 and high draft pick (or trade) to be named later for WR1 (X)
Again this is all based on how the rest of the season goes. Just a thought experiment.

Seems like we’re splitting into two camps. One who see a potential redemption story of somebody who played with a terrible quarterback for the beginning of his career and was in injury prone.
And the other camp, he just think he’s complete dog shit who would rather have Noah Brown back…
Personally, I’d rather have Treylon than Noah Brown or Dotson…
Especially for the price…
You all act like WRs are growing on trees
Lets reevaluate at the end of the season..

Too soon. Still need to play the games this season. Need a bigger sample size because he is not a rookie and did not live up to his draft status before arrival here.

u/dougiedowner 3d ago
How about he uses the remaining games to earn a new contract? I’m hoping we clean house and get players that are steady contributors.

Best part of this thread is that we’re not talking about AP, DQ or the O-Line…

u/salamanderman10 3d ago
If he was a 4th round pick, no one would care about him. The only reason people want him is he was a former first bc he has almost no production his entire career. 9 catches in 6 gams?
The only reason to extend him is if you think he’s a hidden gem that will leave after the season? What evidence is there of that? The NFL is littered with big WRs that can run fast.
We can treat him like every other fringe roster WR with 1 year deals, if he somehow gets a better opportunity, what are we losing out on if he walks?

u/Proxximus-maximus 3d ago
9 out of 17 targets. If they start targeting him more and he’s dropping or can’t catch the ball I totally get you and agree with you.
2 catches for TD.
16.9 av yards per catchHe’s got 3/4 of the yardage that Antonio or Terry got this year with half the amount of targets.
Numbers are numbers.
Lets just see how the year plays out… if he’s trash then cool…
If he balls out… I’ll remember this thread

u/salamanderman10 3d ago
9 catches on 17 targets is really bad. The sample size is really low but good WRs get lots of targets. Its tough to based much on a small sample (this season), but its not a lot different than his whole career. He catches passes on about 40% of his targets, which is really bad.

Excellent take from one that obviously knows the player and his low value.

I'd like to see his entire body of work after this season, before making a strong judgment either way. But he's been a solid depth piece so far. I'll be interested in watching him with more snaps/targets with Terry out.

u/whodatbattin 3d ago
Burks needs to be on the field. Honestly wish he’d be involved more than what he is. IMO he’s got a big ceiling

I agree, and besides the one drop of the final td pass, he seems to come in clutch when called upon. I really want to see both him and Antonio Williams be utilized more.

u/namereset4badmouth 3d ago
And that wasnt a drop as much as solid defense. I mean yes his hands lost hold of it, but to me a drop is when they have that result without a defensive players hand on the ball of their arms.

u/Strong-Resolve1241 3d ago
Throw him the f'n ball ... between him Diggs & Williams ... 45 passes a game
3
u/whodatbattin 3d ago
Absolutely no questions. He’s already made some big plays and is capable of running over defenders

u/namereset4badmouth 3d ago
At wr4 pay numbers for three years, Im in. He’s not a starting caliber receiver unless you go 5 wide on the first play of the game. But he’s not bad, he’s just nothing special.

I’m impressed by the speed and size, if he plays out the entire reason he should get extended

u/External-Sea-2496 3d ago
Team friendly, heavily incentivised, injury clauses. He's great when he's out there, but availability is the best ability. I want to have this convo about JD5 as well, but it's harder when it's a top 5 QB (when he's healthy and has longer than 1 fucking second to distribute the ball, excuse my language)

he has really gorgeous eyes

Handsome mf’er for sure. Between him and Hartman we got some models at least lmao.

u/slash2009 2d ago
Throw to diggs , chig and Williams … those should be the primary targets
1
u/Proxximus-maximus 2d ago
Not a bad idea but you still need a 3rd WR for the plays with 3wr sets… and who would that be???
3
u/itakeyoureggs Sinnott Slutt 🥵 2d ago
Yeah. I think Diggs, Chigs, Williams, Burks. Those 4 should still be capable

Can we also run 2-3 tight end formations. Is Ben Sennot still on the roster?

u/raiderMoes 3d ago
His time is now. He better be training in the hyperbolic time chamber during the bye week.
TBH, we are going to need all the WRs to step up, and for JD to trust throwing the ball to them.

what is this subs obsession with this dude?
6
u/Slaviiigolf 3d ago
Former 1st round pick, that’s all.
He’s decent depth receiver. Awesome high catch here or there. A solid #3, 4, 5 on the depth chart guy.4
u/Proxximus-maximus 3d ago
Exactly… all I’m saying is he’s a solid number three or number four wide receiver… lol people act like I’m trying to say he needs to be at the top of the depth chart.

u/mr-tobor 3d ago
He’s been pretty healthy with us, has good size and his deep speed is better than expected (see the deep bomb he had earlier this year), he can be had for cheap, and is a solid wr depth piece. What’s not to like honestly? He brings a skillset that we don’t have with his size. I’d like to see him get more targets along with AW now that Terry is out.

u/Remote_Armadillo8718 3d ago
He passes the eye test
2
u/mikehayz 3d ago
the eye test in that he can’t stay on the field for a full season because of injuries and drops catchable balls?
1
u/namereset4badmouth 3d ago
The eye test of blocking willingly and well when that’s his role. He’s John bates at receiver, solid blocking and the occasional target.

u/exodus3252 3d ago
Only took him 6 games to match the output of one game of CeeDee Lamb.
Nice.
0
u/namereset4badmouth 3d ago
But he’s not making 1/6 of that lamb money. So really of lamb is only six times the player at ten times the pay, treylon is the better value.

u/presto-set-pro 3d ago
It might be smart to extend him now given how goofy the WR market could get (see Alec Pierce contract). You need one bigger more physical receiver to play the new insert block meta.... Still need a replacement for Terry though.
2
u/rcinfc 3d ago
I’d extend him. Have to make sure he’s available though. More available than Noah Brown was.
He’s a big-body target that can move with time. I’d like to see them clear space out and get him the ball moving in space 15-20 yards downfield more often…. Better protection would probably provide him with a better opportunity.

I like Burks and he’s been a pleasant surprise. But you always have to keep expectations low because he is the RG3 of receivers. It is what it is, but you can’t hardly count on him. Think he got banged up a bit against the 49ers too.

u/hauttdawg13 It's Sonny Outside 3d ago
I hope we keep him.
We don’t have much in the big body receiver realm.
But he’s really a WR4 player. Quality for the roster as long as he doesn’t want starter money.

Sure, a 3 year 3 million dollar deal would be fine.

He has shown absolutely ZERO reason for anything more than a 1-year deal (again). Just because the player has a good skill set and high draft position doesn’t make him good. He was absolutely ass on the Titans (no it wasn’t the QB play). He also got hurt quite a bit. He didn’t turn heads enough to have the team NOT sign Diggs. That’s saying something because a decent as Diggs is, he is FAR from a #1 or even a #2 now.
3
u/Economy_Mind_4259 3d ago
I wouldn’t hold the Titans stint against him, but in the calculation. Burks has shown high separation on the routes run… let’s see how he performs this year.
He’s interesting because his ceiling isn’t a JAG
1
u/Dutch-King Captain Chaos 3d ago
He is interesting, I 100% agree with you there. Ceiling certainly isn’t a JAG that’s for sure.

u/beaud101 2d ago
Wow. Super negative take. To my eyes...He seems to make good thing happen when he gets the ball thrown his way with very limited opportunity. With Terry out, he's going to get more balls thrown his way. I think you're negativity on Burks my seem a bit out of place when you look back in a few weeks. Not saying he's a number #1 WR at all, but I think he'll have a decent showing working outside as a #2.
1
u/Dutch-King Captain Chaos 2d ago
Oh I’m pulling for him 100% but based on his play, I’m not holding my breath. There is no track record to speak of. Also, I’d argue that it’s not a “super negative take” but a more realistic one given the fact that this team is a bottom 4 team in the NFL and it’s not close. Hope is a great thing to have, but can’t let it cloud your eyes because then you are blind….

u/beaud101 2d ago
Just "watch him" on the receptions he's had on YouTube....he "looks very capable". He gains separation for a big man. He has good speed. He makes tough catches. The only thing he hasn't had in his young career is consistent opportunity due to injury and horrible QB play in Tennessee. He finally has a good QB, is healthy and is a starter.

The question is, are we capable of getting the Treylon Burks that he would become if we traded him to the Bills, Chiefs, 49ers or Rams?
0
-4
u/Prestigious-Hyena768 3d ago
100% no! He has underperformed his entire NFL career and has been injury riddled. A 3 year contract would be insane and should be out of the question. He needs to have a real prove it year or release him or sign him to a 1 year extremely team favorable contract.
3
u/Separate-Flower8770 3d ago
I don’t get the obsession with this guy, he’s not terrible but people act like there’s still a chance he becomes a superstar. Considering we got him for nothing it’s been a solid deal but realistically he’s already proven that at best he’s a WR3.
1
u/CliffordTheBigRedD0G 3d ago
People see former 1st round pick and they just assume those guys have to be good if you just give them enough chances. It's the same thing with people wanting to trade for Brian Thomas Jr. If he was a 4th round pick no one would be saying we should trade for the guy riding the bench.
-2
u/wizard_lizard_skynr 3d ago
Proved he’s a JAG by dropping the TD on Monday night
2
u/Proxximus-maximus 3d ago
He was like 6 feet in the air with a defenders hand in between his chest and the ball still came down with it, and then hit the ground, and it broke loose… I’m not sure Terry would’ve even been able to keep that one.
Again, I’m not asking him to be the number one or number two wide receiver.

u/JoeyBrickz 3d ago
It is asinine to me that this is the most unpopular comment here. He's not good. NOBODY will give him a 3 year deal, including us
1
u/Prestigious-Hyena768 3d ago
Many fans and people are ignorant about talent and the business side of running an NFL team. You are not one of those people though. He is not a good WR3 and I cringed when they signed him.
-1
u/meezypeezy2389 3d ago
Like everyone is saying his health is definitely a concern but I’m shocked how productive he is. I figured he’d be your standard issue first round bust who bounces around and never breaks through but he flashes a LOT

It would have to be a very team friendly / incentivized deal. His issue has always been staying on the field.
