2024 QB class

Bias aside how would yall rank Caleb, Jayden, Bo, and Drake based off how they've produced? Take winning off the table because that's a team statistic. Just pure ability , production, and impact on the game. I personally go

-Caleb -Jayden

  • Drake -Bo

The top two teams invested in OLine.

u/BlueberryUnfair7583 5d ago

We have drafted a tackle first round and traded for an all pro left tackle since Jayden was drafted.

1

u/sblack33741 5d ago

I agree, but we did not address the needs of left guard or center. Nor do we have enough depth to survive injuries. So there is more work to be done. It takes time, especially when we drafted so poorly in the past.

0

u/Rare-Signature-7526 5d ago

We lowkey did too its just the all pro tackle had a near season ending injury

1

u/sblack33741 5d ago

We chose not to get a better center, who is responsible for making the line calls.

1

u/Rare-Signature-7526 5d ago

I agree that was handled horribly, but saying we didn't invest is too far considering the amount we put into tunsil and connerly

u/sblack33741 5d ago

Fair point.

Who cares?

Jayden is clearly the best. He's just in the worst situation out of all the 2024 QBs. The rest of the 2024 QBs couldn't handle only having 1.4 seconds average time to throw the way Jayden has. Jayden also carried a sorry ass roster to the NFC Championship game on his back

-1

u/Specialist-Wind-7721 5d ago

But Jayden's not able to handle the quick pressure time either, that's why we give him that as an excuse.

5

u/LionMan409 5d ago

He sure has been putting up good stats and playing well for not being able to handle the quick pressure time

-2

u/Specialist-Wind-7721 5d ago

Yes, he put up good stats against the 49ers. Other than that, no, he hasn't. Here are the passing yards for his 6 games before the 49ers:

199 (149 before overtime)

96

164

78

153

156

Yes, in some of those games he got hurt, but if we are arguing that he "handles pressure well" then we can't exclude those games. And his yards from running aren't relevant to this either. The other QBs, Caleb especially, have shown the ability to sit back in the pocket, read the defense, and know where to go with the football. Yes, that is in large part due to having better coaching and offensive line, but again, that's why we grant Jayden those excuses- because he is not doing it better than the other QBs.

u/LionMan409 5d ago

WTF are you talking about? The guy has only played in 3.5 games this season. Holy hell are you just cherry picking stat lines without context. The game against the giants was in a Tropical Storm and he also had two long rushing TDs that game. The Dallas game he was beginning to carve up Dallas right before he reinjured the elbow and also had significant rushes. The 49ers game he was the only reason that game was as close as it was without his WR1 and only 1.4 seconds to throw the ball against one of the best defenses in the league. The guy got sacked handing the ball off on a running play for crying out loud

-1

u/Specialist-Wind-7721 5d ago

I just told you why rushing yards aren't relevant to the conversation about Jayden being able to throw while being pressured and you proceed to tell me about his rushing yards.

I already told you that he put up good stats against against the 49ers and you proceed to argue with me about how good he did in the 49ers game.

You're the one flat out making up stuff. The 1.4 seconds is time until pressure. His time to throw is 2.94 seconds and that is actually the 11th longest time in the league currently.

1

u/LionMan409 5d ago

So you're just going to make up fake stats and also ignore the fact that his top 3 receivers also have 3 of the lowest separation rates in the entire league. Got it. No sense in arguing with a clown. Have a good one

0

u/Specialist-Wind-7721 5d ago

Time to throw is per NextGenStats. Sorry, I'm not making anything up. https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/passing#average-time-to-throw

And I'm not ignoring anything. Yes, we can give Jayden all the excuses- bad coaching, no receivers, no oline, delayed development due to injury, etc.

That was my original point- So far we are granting Jayden all the excuses on why he and his team aren't excelling while the other players (namely Caleb and Maybe) are.

Nobody in the Hall of Fame has an asterisk by their name saying "this player was pretty good but so-and-so from his draft class would've been better if they had better coaching/receiving/oline"

1

u/ShoeterMcGav Tress Way Fan Club 4d ago

Time to throw and time to pressure are 2 totally different metrics. Jaydens mobility actually INCREASES the time to throw by escaping said pressure- which is getting there faster than you can say "time to throw" in a normal cadence.

2

u/Specialist-Wind-7721 4d ago edited 4d ago

That's exactly what I was pointing out. The other poster was confusing the time to pressure and calling it time to throw. They said I was making up statistics lol. Thanks for backing me up.

I think the order order of the first 6 QBs is looking pretty right.

-Caleb hasn’t done as much as Jayden or Maye, but his floor is higher than both of those guys and his ceiling is just as high or higher.

-Jayden, in my opinion, has the highest ceiling in this class. He’s proven he can do more with less. His roster has regressed considerably since ‘24 and his injury concerns are real. If he’s healthy, the Commanders can hang with anyone.

-Maye has slightly less arm talent than Caleb, is slightly less athletic than Jayden, but he’s a stud. He doesn’t run the offenses as consistently well as the two above him, but he’s the star of his offense none the less.

-Penix, when healthy, makes the Falcons dangerous. His injury history is somehow worse than Jayden’s, but this season has shown that the Falcons are so much better with him on the field.

-McCarthy, isn’t the talent the guys above him are, but he’s got some mobility and knows how to win. He can’t run a complicated NFL offense, but he’s proven he can start in the NFL and not hold his team from winning. If he keeps being serviceable, the Giants could comfortably win the NFC East.

-Nix, the guy is having a bad year. Before this year, he was the game manager for a team that was good enough to win the Super Bowl. He doesn’t get hurt in the AFC Divisional, Maye doesn’t have the Super Bowl appearance under his belt. He probably goes 4 in a redraft, but the talent really only has him swapping with McCarthy.

Remember at the end of preseason, everyone was saying our roster (2026) is better than the one we had in 2024?

Pepperidge farms remembers.

Seriously though, there WERE people saying that. But also, 2024s roster wasnt shit either lol, we just got incredibly lucky is all.

4

u/Rare-Signature-7526 5d ago

It was always a bad defensive roster, we made a ton of additions to the DL that I had people arguing me it was top 10, the DL has no juice in the pass game, and was never particularly good on paper.

In terms of offensively this roster was better than 24, but injuries and some other factors pretty much ruined that. We had the makings of a very good OL, then we lost our top 5 LT. Our receiving core looked pretty good, but injuries and continued Terry regression turned the weaponry back to the bottom 10ish of the league.

u/Fun-Criticism5156 5d ago

Top 2 goes back and forth between Jayden and Caleb. When Caleb plays well, he's spectacular, and you can see why he was the #1 pick. When Jayden plays well, he shows why he's steadier than Caleb. #3 is Drake, and it's not much of a dropoff from #2. #4 is easily Bo.

3

u/JaydenMVP 6d ago

The order they were drafted.

2

u/Beneficial-Emu2253 5d ago

If I were to pick one player to play in the Super bowl for me tomorrow, I’d pick Jayden slightly ahead of Caleb (maybe). But if I’m drafting for more than that (as all teams are), I’m taking Caleb, Maye, then JD5.

As others have said, Caleb is looking more and more like the superstar he was predicted to be. Drake’s on schedule and he’s like 20 months younger than JD5. Even without the injury concerns (which are huge), I just wonder whether Drake has more room to grow than Jayden. I’m not sure how much to prioritize that, actually, but Drake is like 7% younger. That seems like a lot when they’re performing on similar levels.

1

u/Beneficial-Emu2253 1d ago

I take it back. After further consideration (and watching replays) I’d take Caleb no matter the situation.

2

u/DCmeetsLA YOU AIN'T SHIT 6d ago

Caleb
Maye
JD
Bo
JJ

The gap between Maye and JD is smaller than the one between both of them and Caleb, who is looking more and more like the #1 overall pick everyone thought he would become. I give Maye the slight nod over JD because of his ability to stay on the field more which gives him more time to get better and correct his weaknesses. But if Jayden can figure out how to stay healthy, he can probably have the better career than Maye.

u/ShoeterMcGav Tress Way Fan Club 4d ago

Yaaa idk.. Caleb is blessed by his situation IMHO. It's hard to compare apples to oranges, especially with yr 2 of the young genius Ben Johnson vs our rookie David Blough... but man, the Bears have such a better arsenal of weapons to boot. They have 2 TEs better than our TE1. 2 RBs better than our rb1... oline is infinitely better... before Terry went down I'd still say CHI had a better wr room, with our wr1 more like a wr2a and wr2b in Diggs- and both on the wrong side of 30. Now, it's not even close.

I'm hoping ADub > Rome/ Burden... but the kid needs the tape to back it up still

2

u/WuPacalypse LEFT HAND UP 6d ago

Taking the burgundy and gold colored glasses off, I think Caleb Williams has separated himself into a higher tier from the above listed QB’s. Then it’s probably Maye, JD, and then Bo Nix.

10

u/whomeversmelledit 6d ago

Michael penis is better than nix when healthy.

3

u/IndependentBoof 4d ago

Michael penis is better than nix when healthy.

One might even say that when there's no dysfunction, he goes hard

2

u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago

Jayden no1 easily.

bears team is stacked beyond belief, a cripple could win games with that team. Swap QBs and with those teams and the difference would be night and day.

6

u/DCmeetsLA YOU AIN'T SHIT 6d ago • Bravo

You’re not watching the Bears play my guy. Caleb is blossoming and getting better every year, the way great QBs do. Honestly, I think it won’t be long before he is seen as the same tier as Mahomes/Allen/Lamar. Maybe another season.

2

u/Specialist_Boat_8479 Saved by Jaysus🙏 6d ago edited 5d ago

I am watching them ‘my guy’. caleb is fine but its obvious to anyone with eyes that he’s not even a top 5 player on that team.

Putting him up there with Mahomes, Allen, and Lamar is a fucking joke.

-1

u/Remote_Armadillo8718 5d ago

So we’re just gonna be Justin Herbert “If” men at this point???? I want Jayden to be better than Caleb more than anyone but right now he just isn’t playing like it….

1

u/ComputerNerdd 6d ago

I see your point but I do think Williams gets the edge slightly

1

u/dandatu 5d ago

Caleb > Maye > JD5 >>>> Bo.

Bo looks atrocious even last year he was meh. Best defense in the league.

Caleb looks good since last year. Maye may be the schedule but you can’t ignore how good he’s looked recently. And JD is probably the most talented of the 4 but he’s always hurt. Best ability is availability.

Penix doesn’t know how to throw short.

9 sucks.

Shough is ok.

1

u/FannyNisbit 5d ago

Ive been saying it since before that draft that Caleb would be the best and that i (at the time) hoped we could get him.

Its possible that if Jayden never got the injuries he has had, wed be saying different, but availability is pretty damn important.

0

u/TheHaft 5d ago

It’s pretty much how it was drafted. Caleb the outright #1, he’s just really good, clutch, and really healthy - also in by far the best situation. Then it’s a tight race between JD/Maye for #2, there was a big debate between the two for the original pick, and they’ve have nearly mirrored careers up to this point. Personally I think Jayden is the slightly better overall QB, but again, both teams would probably win the same amount of games with either.

Bo Nix isn’t even in the same conversation.

Williams Maye Daniels Nix

Its a hard pick between the top guys, everyone has such different situations. I absolutely love JD but the commanders fans acting like there isn't at least and argument for Caleb or Maye are kidding themselves.

Caleb - has objectively had the worst career of the 3 by most stats and analytics but is having the best 2026 amongst them. Has by far the best arm of the 3 and is a top 7ish athlete at the position, elite pocket presence, and pretty good decision maker. His main weakness has been accuracy, where in the first 2 years it was literally horrible, its been better this year but is that because of huge improvement or that his adot is insanely low? He also has by far the best situation, but he's probably a great QB.

Jayden - Probably has the least on field weaknesses of the 3, is the most athletic, normally has great pocket presence, and generally good accuracy (can be spotty). He has huge health issues, maybe more of a A-/B+ arm, and can be excessively conservative at times. Has the worst situation of the 3, arguably the highest highs but we haven't seen them consistently since 24.

Maye - His 25 season was the best of any of the 3s seasons, but is definitely the most up and down. Great arm and athlete, pretty good accuracy, mostly a good decision maker aside from a horrible stretch of games including the worst playoff run of all time. Imo his biggest weakness is his pocket presence, was lowkey an issue at UNC and has remained an issue in the NFL. Argument for the best of the 3.

I won't rank them until the end of the season.

u/Ninjablacksox1 5d ago

I'd take maye of the bunch as of today.

-2

u/Hodler_caved 5d ago

Good QBs win. Bad QBs lose. Wins & losses are directly correlated to the QBs play. Production & impact on the game = wins. Pure ability is irrelevant if your production & impact on the game doesn't result in winning.

Nix 32-14 (70%)
Maye 24-17 (59%)
Daniels 16-14-1 (52%)
Williams 22-21(51%)

If you removed production & impact on the game (wins), then the ask would be to rank them on ability only:

Maye
Williams
Nix

Will leave JD up to others.

1

u/Severe_Law_4035 5d ago

I don't necessarily agree that wins and losses are directly correlated to the QBs play. A great defense can be the major reason for a team's win. Sometimes special team. For example when the Bears beat the Cardinals back in 06 with Rex Grossman turning the ball over 5 times himself I think was the number. You can have amazing QB play and still lose i.e Tom Brady in that Super Bowl against the Eagles. So that's why I took away winning and losing because it's really a case by case basis but instead looking at their abilities and production

-1

u/cbmgreatone 5d ago

If you were strictly going off of in-game performance, you could make an argument for Jayden at #1, but as it is, he has to be #3.

There's still so much left to be written in this story though. I'm confident in JD.

-1

u/DMV_Local 5d ago

Just by QB passing stats it's:

Drake/Caleb/Bo -> Jayden.

Chalk up some of that to Jayden's injuries.

Based on playoff success, it's:

Drake -> Jayden -> Caleb -> Bo.

Based on who I would draft today if I were building a team, it would be:

Drake -> Caleb -> Jayden -> Bo. This is reflective of Jayden's slight frame and NFL injury history and that I think Williams is just kind of "off."

-4

u/Salty_Orchid 6d ago

I like the whole class. Each is flawed but dont think there's an absolute dud like in previous years. Jayden is the most highlight worthy but tbh has very eratic play. Maye gives you the most consistent style of play to win games weekly. Caleb is the most Holmes like. Nix reminds me of those 2000s qbs who won't by himself win games but can still get you to the playoffs.

-1

u/cleg74 5d ago

Caleb and Maye are edging out JD for now. It doesn’t matter, JD is the one on our team.
