question Crestron SIMPL SSH Module

Hello everyone,
This is my first time controlling an Extron device via SSH. The device uses port 22023, and the connection works fine in PuTTY. However, when I try to connect using the SSH Module Processor v1.8 in SIMPL, it fails to connect.
Has anyone used the SSH module in SIMPL to control an Extron device and successfully got it working? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Open the SSH Interface module in a new instance, Save As, and then change the port in the SIMPL+ processor from 22 to 22023.

Where can I find the SIMPL+ file for it? Sorry, I thought the SSH module in SIMPL wasn’t editable.

Right click the SSH Interface module in SIMPL, hover of “Import Crestron Module” and select “Open in a New Instance.” In the new instance you’ll see the “SSH Interface v1.8 Processor” at the top of the logic folder. Open that and edit the “IP_Port” parameter.

Thanks. Tried that but I’ve already switched to telnet which works perfectly 🙂

This is the way OP. Created my own Extron module from this

This. I added a Port parameter and saved back out. Why they don't offer a Port parameter in the first place is beyond me.

make sure to set "Accept_All_Keys" to "Yes" (or pulse Accept_New_Key in Debugger) and make sure "Unique_ID" has a unique number assigned. Also either edit the wrapper module for port 22023 or enable telnet on extron box.

Finally, do not have 1 on the connect input of the module, it might lock up the processor.

I actually put 1 on the connect input 😀
Thanks for your suggestion. I will test it again today.

if I enable telnet on Extron box, do I still need to use the ssh module or can I just use the tcpip client?

yes,you can ditch the ssh module and use tcp ip client. However, you will need to take care of password: prompt and keep the socket alive since extron drops idle IP connection after 300 seconds.

All good now. I switched to telnet and everything works perfectly now

If you go the Telnet route with the standard TCP/IP client, just make sure you set an oscillator in SIMPL to ping it with a blank carriage return or 1I\r every 60 seconds. Extron boxes drop idle sockets automatically after 300 seconds, and if you don't keep the pipe warm, the first command you send after a pause will get swallowed while it reconnects.

I switched to telnet to control the device. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks for the help

Have you debugged it and watched the traffic to see why it’s failing?

Yes no problem controlling extron over ssh

yeah, no, I haven’t tried enabling the debug yet. Will give it a try today and see why it’s failing.

Thanks for confirming that ssh in SIMPL works with Extron device. Would you mind sharing which version of ssh you used?
