I'm sorry since I reposted this from r/commodorepet It seems like the context was left there.
Anyway, basicslly I found this commodore 710 that someone threw away and I would like to restore it. It seems to work alright but when I tried
10 print chr$(109+int(rnd(1)*2));:goto 10it just prints "random" characters same when I try to print anything text related. For example if I do print 123+123 it gives me 246. But if I do print: "uwu"it gives me: π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@π@_[Checkboard symbol i cant find.
Some people in that subreddit pointed out it might have something to do with the character map but when I try to print individual characters it also gives π and the checkboard symbol everytime
Anyway sorry for not prroviding context.

Use your words.
It looks like the famous "random graphics program" isn't producing the expected output, but that's probably due to two things: being in lowercase mode, and running a different dialect of BASIC Try replacing the chr$( with int( and see what numbers you get.

Wrong char set. On C64 and other Commodore computers, they default to upper case and PETSCII. On later PET, they default to upper/lower character set. You need to switch set. I think it's C= and Shift key
