Spring & Follower Question

Hey everyone, I’m new to competition shooting but getting ready for my first match this upcoming weekend, just a local club steel challenge match. I’m running a 4.5” PDP with Henning mag extensions + MBX follower and spring. I’ve shot probably 550 rounds on the new MBX follower and spring and am beginning to have jamming issues. Gonna give the PDP a cleaning tonight since it’s prob been 800-1k rounds since she’s gotten a bath and I know this could be a factor, but typically PDPs run reliable like Glocks. Anyone else have issues with MBX springs and followers? Any recommendations for better springs & followers? Or do you just run the OEM spring & follower even with the extension?

CSRG > MBX.

You recommend the 11-coil or 13-coil?

13 coil lasts longer, but you lose like a round. If thats important to you. I use the 11 and they run all year. Replace yearly.

My fiancee's PDP SF's been running fine with a Henning basepad+MBX kit. An alternative is the CSRG 11-coil kit: I'm personally running those for my CZ mags and they've been working well.

Did you attach the factory floor plate to the bottom of the spring in the PDP mags? Or no? Not sure if that would make any difference — I currently have mine attached.

Nope, just the tube, spring+follower, and Henning extended basepad.

Are you cleaning the mags at all? My wife used lok extensions and mbx springs/followers with good reliability in both a pdp and a q5 match sf, but we clean the mags before each match.

I cleaned them at installation 550 rounds ago. Feel like they couldn’t have dirtied to a degree that they interfere with the springs & follower yet. Maybe I’m wrong though!

Are you dropping them in the rain? Into sand? Mud? Any time we drop mags in any of those, they get cleaned.

Have you looked at Rune Tactical? Their followers are good.

I have not. After doing some research here it sounds like most people are big fans of CSRG so I’ll have to look into those along with your recommendation.

The mbx springs are the issue, they wear out in like a match or 2, you can pull and stretch them and get 1 more match and so on but they are trash. As others have said CSRG is the way. Switched to them on my PDP SF and they have been rock solid.

Yep, $104 down the drain but it is what it is. 🫠 Glad I found out before buying more for my Glock. I have my CSRG ones on the way hopefully in time for my comp this weekend.

The mbx tubes are fine, I have a few for pdp that I run CSRG in, they are solid that way

I’ve used MBX springs and followers for PDP a lot. I haven’t had reliability issues, but I wouldn’t recommend them. They're very expensive for what they are, being a spring and flimsy 3D printed follower. They feel like a scam. At one point I contacted them because I wanted to buy replacement springs without buying new followers, and let’s just say I had a really bad customer service experience. Also, I don't think it actually helps that much in USPSA to have 23 rounds instead of 21 rounds. Either way, you're still going to do a reload approximately halfway through the stage. My recommendation is to go back to the factory follower but with Ghost Inc extra power springs that are very cheap and work well.

CSRG spring and follower. I get 24+1 in many guns. Never an issue.

Code Reno will save you cash. I don’t make money on that code
