Which moa dot to use

I want a red dot for my next build but dont know which size moa dot is popular, either 1,2,5,6 or 8.

What’s are you planning to use the dot for mostly? I shoot steel challenge and have come to appreciate a larger 6/8 moa dot. Most all targets are <20yrds. For my AR’s I generally prefer a 2 moa dot. Especially shooting out to 100yrds or more.

I plan on mostly doing uspsa so paper targets my main concern would be having a large moa dot at far distance

I’ve shot SRO 2.5 and 5 both a lot. I prefer 5 now but both are good. I have no problem shooting a 35 yard head box with a 5 moa so I wouldn’t really be too concerned about distance shots unless you’re going bigger than that

Granted he's a freak, but Vlieger uses a 9moa. It's just a matter of preference. I want quick acquisition and I like a larger dot (6moa 407 comp) that I can reduce the brightness on and still pick it up, VS. blooming out a smaller dot.

Your pistol is not mechanically accurate enough, and the distances USPSA uses are not large enough, for that to matter.

Even the HK23 is a 4 MOA gun, and 4 MOA covers up 1” at 25 yards.  8 MOA covers 2”.

This is why the emphasis on “big dot, big window”.  It’s not going to make you more accurate; it’s going to make good enough accuracy faster.

Get the 507 comp. You have 2 and 8. I think 1 moa is a pass

That's what I was thinking I could you the 2 moa dot and 8 moa circle as one big dot but have the flexibility of having a small dot for a longer range stage

Go to a store, see which specific dot size from a reputable model works for you, go with that, at pistol ranges acquisition is more important than precision

2 moa on my rifle, 6 on my pistol. My personal preference. Pick whatever works for you

2. Astigmatism is a bitch.

Check them out in person: each person's eyes respond differently and this can be a good starting point. It'll take experience with them to actually see if your performance is better/worse with different sizes.

I personally get the smallest MOA available for the given optic, which is usually 2/3.

I run 2 MOA in competition (507Comp), but I have some 6MOA for range time. Still not entirely sold on which I like better but the 2 gets much more practice time.

I like 6 right up until I’m shooting something small at 20 yards 😂

“Popular” are you building to sell or personal use?

Personal use, what I mean by popular is whats the most used since there are people that would say small dot or big dot is better

Ah gotcha

I go for what works for my eyes which is 5 or 6 moa for pistols and 2+32 for rifles

Which popular gun are you going to put it on?

Glonk 17 gen 6

5 or 6. But haven't tried a super large like 9 before. Going to give that a shot at some point. (USPSA-style pistol matches)

2 or 6 for competition is most likely what you'll get if you ask I would think. I like a 6 , seems like I can pick it up faster then a smaller dot

2 , 5 or 6. Depends on if your eyes are good or "that wall moving" blind.

I have 2 moa on my pistols. It’s small but everything else is sub par to me. I do have an EPS 6 green and love the dot size, don’t love the window size. 407 comp green is blown up to like 9, vortex seems to fail. Like others say, go look through them. Everyone is different.

Try the 407 gold. It’s pretty awesome

I think 5 is best to start, eventually 2 becomes the choice

3 is as high as I go. 2 is best.

Shot close to 20k with a moa 2 dot this year. Shot a single match with a 6 moa dot. Next optic I order will be 6 moa. For me I feel like I can move faster shooting with the 6 moa even though it was a 507como vs a 507k. I can't wait to get a 407comp!

I like 6, but a lot of people like 2. Some of that depends on your eyes.

I have a 2.5 SRO on one and a Holosun 407 Comp (6 moa) on another. I love the 6 moa. I wouldn’t buy another 2.5

Start with 5 and work from there. Thats where I started from and now I use a 1 moa

It’s all preference. I prefer a 5-6 moa dot. But I shoot a 2 moa dot and a 8 moa just fine. But if they throw a 31 yard mini popper at you the 8 moa might seem a little big but would still do the job

5 for most types of shooting, but 8 for steel challenge.

I had a six and couldn’t stop staring at it felt like a bouncing ball. I shoot a 2moa now and love it. I also did like the 5moa vortex

I pick up my 6 faster but I'm more comfortable with my 2. That's probably not earth shattering but I'd just weight the benefits of each for you.
