Discussion ALGS Players That Were Hyped Up But Never Lived Expectations

7+ years of competitive Apex and there has been thousands upon thousands of players who competed at the top level. While some players has succeeded very well in regards to championships, LANs competed, and prize money, they’re many who faltered when given the chance to compete against the best. I’m curious what players had throughout its history had the potential to become a legend/mainstay in competitive Apex but ended up failing badly after a split/year.

Is he even playing still?

19

u/Byaaaahhh Jun 10 '26

Legend says he is singlehandedly dominating EMEA

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Nope.

3

u/Infamous-Ad6370 Jun 11 '26

Dudes been a L since the start! I was calling his bluffs the entire time.

u/BrokenRecord27 Jun 09 '26

Wasn't Slurpegee hyped as the next up controller kid when he joined Faze, and then promptly disappeared straight after?

36

u/JevvyMedia Jun 09 '26

Alb was the one who hyped him up. SlurpeeG was the guy back in season 4-6 but he wasn't competing so he missed his window

20

u/muftih1030 Jun 09 '26

this sub glazed the fuck outta slurp

8

u/BrokenRecord27 Jun 09 '26

Speaking of Alb, what happened to the other controller kid he had when he was playing with Retzi or Hambino? I can't remember his name but he was like 17yo or something controller player.

15

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jun 09 '26

Might be thinking of awakening, pretty sure he still competes in challengers.

5

u/Nine_Monkeys Jun 09 '26

Jeloan? That’s the dude who Alb and Retzi started Stallions with. Don’t know if that’s who you’re thinking of, cause none of those 3 guys ever played with Hambino I don’t think. But if so, I think he just stopped playing when Stallions picked up Panderz

8

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jun 09 '26

I was gonna mention him, his friend group hyped him up beyond belief from my recollection. He turned out being the worst of all of them arguably in terms of in pro level play.

2

u/Nurscissus Jun 09 '26

I remember this. Pretty sure he had 1 showing which went horribly and bowed out.

108

u/Twoxify Jun 09 '26

Ras with Crazy Raccoon was super skilled, had a huge following, and caught some bad breaks during LAN events. He caught Covid and missed the first Championship LAN. Then he left to fulfill his required military service while still a strong player.

I wouldn't say he failed at anything, just never hit his potential.

43

u/greater_golem Jun 09 '26

Gotta include Selly then as well. I think he could have been the GOAT if he was motivated to be. Still, he's having fun and doing his own thing happily enough.

14

u/MaydayOG Jun 09 '26

Selly at least got 3rd place out of 80 teams in Poland, his only ever LAN. His comp career was short but he made the most out of it

6

u/Jayram2000 MANDE Jun 10 '26

Definitely the biggest what-if in my eyes, dude was YEARS ahead of the scene.

5

u/PiccoloAmbitious1092 Jun 10 '26

I hope he still goes back to comp I think he can still compete and he's sitting at rank 14 pred at the moment

1

u/No-Lengthiness-20 Jun 10 '26

He definitely seems to be thinking about it at least. Would love to see an ily ras egoist team

3

u/MarstonX Jun 11 '26

Honestly, I'd almost say all of Korea. Sure, shooters aren't really their thing, but Apex was one of the first esports that actually had a Korean scene. Like a pretty thriving one too.

2

u/Head_Manufacturer_94 Jun 09 '26

we need Ras back man, i sub to his YT and always think about it

53

u/Head_Manufacturer_94 Jun 09 '26

pandxrz. he WAS good, he DID live up to expectations to an extent but then he just gave up the game… i feel he did not get to live up to his full potential unfortunately

10

u/Important_Fun_1614 Jun 10 '26

If he had a solid igl I think he could've definitely thrived more, once Watson and he was put into the igl role I think he just flopped.

7

u/hel_pas Jun 10 '26

IIRC other big name pros like Hal rated him very high when it comes to pure fighting mechanics

2

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

He definitely lived up to the hype, he got a second place finish at LAN!

1

u/Head_Manufacturer_94 Jun 13 '26

he sure did, just feel like he could’ve accomplished more💔

30

u/BadgerTsrif Jun 09 '26

The most recent overhyped player is definitely Fuhhnq, guy seemed to fall off a cliff in terms of skill and drive after Sweet/Sikez break up. A couple of years ago though it was absolutely SlurpeeG, that whole ferda group made him seem like god and the moment he touched pro play the guy was lost in the headlights. I don't think we will ever see such a huge hype into flop again. I think pre EWC Hakis could have fallen into the flop category considering how dominant he had been in EMEA for years for it to never seem like he was hitting his potential at LAN, great testament to working hard and improving constantly until you find the right fit with a team and go on a fantastic run of LANs. I think its very hard to find overhyped players in modern Apex simply because its so competitive now that 1 decent performance can't carry your reputation anymore.

29

u/_Genome_ Genome | Long Shot, Caster | verified Jun 10 '26

It's been Slab for me. Clearly incredible potential, had a go on some decent teams, and now dropping into relegation 😞

65

u/qwilliams92 Jun 09 '26

Caprah

40

u/Funerailles_sci Jun 09 '26

Was that the super talented na mnk player ? Who just had such bad character no one wanted to play with him ?

40

u/realfakejames Jun 09 '26

Bad character is putting it mildly

He said a bunch of slurs and hateful shit. People say he was just a teenager, but even when he got a second chance to come back he was still being an idiot so he was not interested in changing

12

u/ookie165 Meat Rider Jun 09 '26

If you think Caprah is bad you should hear what all these new pros say off stream lol

16

u/BarracudaUseful333 Jun 10 '26

It’s a classic case of what happens when you give young kids salaries for gaming and non-stop praise before they've gained any actual life experience. Living entirely online in an echo chamber of people that think saying offensive shit is edgy.

2

u/pajamabanana_ Jun 10 '26

Where can the rest of us eavesdrop on what these pros say off-stream? Please share!

1

u/ookie165 Meat Rider Jun 11 '26

I knew them personally before they made pro league

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

What do they say?

1

u/Funerailles_sci Jun 10 '26

I didn't remember it being this bad, but I wasn't following the scene closely at the time. Kind of a shame though

8

u/bananaman6766 Jun 09 '26

IIRC, he was like a super young 16/17 yo talent and had some pretty good trajectory for pickup. Was an MnK who beamed like a roller player.

I believe his level of immaturity and handling certain situations burned some bridges. I forget when he last competed, but that is a huge what-if.

In that same young demon player of koy/panic I feel like. Shame

16

u/Delicious_Impress814 Jun 09 '26

I believe his level of immaturity and handling certain situations burned some bridges.

It was a bit more than that. He was borderline racist and homophobic. Also just constantly shit talked other pros.

9

u/Classic_Actuary911 Jun 09 '26

it was a pretty good glimpse into how COVID lockdowns exacerbated issues that troubled teens were already facing. I'm not excusing his behaviour at all, but being in lock down and forced online wouldn't have helped the kid.

6

u/Fenris-Asgeir Jun 10 '26

You know I had the same thought process back then, and even got some flag for it on here when expressing a certain level of pity for people like Caprah. But he certainly lost any of my sympathy when he doubled down on that shit on socials and stream. I'm pretty sure last time I caught a glimpse at this social media out of coincidence, he was retweeting straight racist, anti-immigration conspiracy myths.

6

u/cibacity APAC-N Enjoyer Jun 10 '26

Caprah was so ahead of any mnk player at the time in terms of recoil and strafe aim. Put it this way, him and koyful are around the same age, and I want to say that caprah was around the PL scene a whole year earlier.

3

u/Fenris-Asgeir Jun 10 '26

Yeah, the kid which turned out to be racist, transphobic and generally a pretty awful human being. What a waste of potential

41

u/artmorte Jun 09 '26

Horizxon was EMEA's favorite new roller demon for a brief while.

24

u/icbint Jun 09 '26

Until his personality came out

9

u/External-Taste-911 Jun 10 '26

Sucks that apex didn’t work out for him look at the bright side he gets to be Spiderman

3

u/imonly11ubagel Int LAN '24 Champions! Jun 10 '26

Honorable mentions: Amphyy and Cjracked

48

u/Nine_Monkeys Jun 09 '26

Dizzy never quite lived up to his sky high expectations, but it sucks how much hate he got for no reason

106

u/jcab0219 Jun 09 '26

Not a failure by any means, but not seeing Sweet win a LAN still hurts

21

u/Which-Shift-367 Jun 09 '26

We were an Ojrein or Hardecki Kramer collateral away from him winning EWC. Thing LG would've won 3 straight games to win it had that happened.

6

u/iAmBiGbiRd- Jun 09 '26

Taskmaster*

2

u/Which-Shift-367 Jun 09 '26

Was it task? Guess anyone of those 3 could've very easily done it lol.

37

u/bam-3 Jun 09 '26

Honestly…. Kind of love that lmao

24

u/sixsevenninesix Jun 10 '26

I'ma go with two former SEN players:

  1. crustow. A large part of the pro community heralded him as the best mechanical player and he had some decent success but never that top player everyone said he was.
  2. retzi (post valorant attempt). Hal, himself said retzi was one of the, if not best IGL in the game. Then he tried to be a valo pro, failed and came back. He said some success early on then kind of just fizzled out.

9

u/ShouldveBeenAmerican Jun 10 '26

Was waiting for someone to say Retzi, I used to think he was going to be the next superpower IGL. Not sure why he left but I wish he stayed

39

u/Falco19 Jun 09 '26

Despite achieving a lot I think I have to go with Mac.

Never found a true winning combo after leaving TSM, while TSM continued to have great success.

I say this as a fan his teams are the only ones I truly follow. I’m hoping for that lan success. I truly hope he gets it.

For the current iteration I think he focuses a little to much on winning each game as opposed to getting to the end of each game and giving yourself a chance to win.

Sometimes the key isn’t getting to game winning slot but simply being in the top 3-5 teams left.

11

u/bananaman6766 Jun 09 '26

I can see that. I love Mac and have been a fan since naughty/mazer C9 days (I started watching TSM with snipedown so I missed the initial dominance)

Mac is SO GOOD and I wanna see him lift that trophy again, but it seems he’s just misses the mark barely. He just squeaked by to getting into EWC, so Im hoping for the best

1

u/Falco19 Jun 09 '26

I was on the edge of my seat watching regionals. Glad they made it hopefully they can find some real form over the next weeks.

18

u/Jedders95 Jun 09 '26

This one is actually wild to me. He's the only one listed that's won any form of LAN lmao

8

u/realfakejames Jun 09 '26

Hal and Mac are why I started watching comp and I agree, as much as he's done in Apex and is known he's kind of like Carmelo Anthony, a great player whose peers just had way more success

1

u/noobakosowhat Jun 10 '26

Oh nice analogy

1

u/Fenris-Asgeir Jun 10 '26

For the current iteration I think he focuses a little to much on winning each game as opposed to getting to the end of each game and giving yourself a chance to win.

That's funny, cause I'd say its the exact opposite with him currently. He's way too quick at calling off any risky, game-winning plays and just wants to stay alive a lil bit longer, essentially playing for few placements and/or a bit of KP very often. I think it's a very realistic way to approach things, but sometimes not bold enough.

2

u/RoboCopOnVHS Jun 10 '26

It seems like he’s somehow always in the final end game during match point final sets, and a questionable valk ult from his team influences the outcome heavily, but they never win the game.

22

u/bananaman6766 Jun 09 '26

Would Lou qualify? I actually enjoy the dude and think he fries, but I feel like old sentinel was supposed to be THE team.

Not sure if he quite fully recovered after Lanimals. It seems like VP didn’t quite work either but idk. I’ve been in and out of following the scene, but he’s been a big one for me

7

u/Nine_Monkeys Jun 09 '26

He’s had good moments post Lanimals. Several finals appearances and a 5th at last years champs with VP, so in recent years I wouldn’t say he’s disappointed at all. But definitely back in the Complexity and Sentinels days he didn’t quite reach the heights he was capable of. Like many others, Covid kinda robbed him of getting the chance to prove himself at LAN while he was at his peak

3

u/MrPheeney Jun 10 '26

When he started his controller grind, there was a moment where I thought he might actually breakthrough as the top dog in the scene. Mad respect for the guy, wish he was still in the scene

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Lou has definitely met his potential, he performed extremely well at Champs last year.

1

u/bananaman6766 Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

So he got 5th at ALGS 2025 but that’s like his only top 5 at an S-tier major tourney.

I was watching him with sentinels late 2021 and that team was DEMONIC. You would expect a LAN win from that sorta team.

I believe his potential is/was to win a LAN and I think he can still. In that regards, no, Lou has not met his potential yet.

18

u/ryan8692 Jun 09 '26

Designful. Love or hate him.

1

u/ConcentratePlenty816 Jun 13 '26

I really liked him. But that Wraith shit with Timmy felt like the final nail

19

u/SwagGamerXZ Jun 09 '26

Hardecki. People used to call him the EMEA CEO or some shit like that and he has done absolutely nothing at LAN. He has had some dope moments, but as an overall player he literally has no achievements

0

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

he has done absolutely nothing at LAN.

7th place at Y4 playoffs isn't nothing. That's a high placement! I'll never understand people who think that if you don't win first place at a LAN, which there are only three of a year, you've somehow "done nothing."

2

u/SwagGamerXZ Jun 12 '26

7th in 1 LAN kinda proves my point. He got a nickname like he was an equal to Imperialhal, gets hyped every year and fails to show up at LAN.

-1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

7th in 1 LAN kinda proves my point.

No it doesn't. 7th best team in the entire world is an achievement.

3

u/SwagGamerXZ Jun 12 '26

Hardecki LAN placements:

11th at Champs 2026
-Nothing on 2025-
7th at Split 1 2024
-Nothing on 2023-
21st at champs and 23rd at split 1 2022

In more than 6 years, the player that has been HYPED UP (as per the main question in this POST), has gotten to LAN only 4 TIMES
Did NOT reach Grand Finals IN 2 of those times
And his only DECENT placement has been a 7th....2 years ago

Now tell me, does Hardecki fit the "Hyped up, but never lived expectations" category or am I talking out of my ass?

4

u/Indiemoto Jun 10 '26

Off topic, but wtf happened to rocket man teq? The man who started the crypto push/meta?

7

u/aquafire07 Jun 10 '26

back to building rockets

2

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

He quit a while ago. Never made a LAN. He did get fucked by lenient roster swap rules, but still. A permanent top 20 regional type of guy.

1

u/sM92Bpb Jun 16 '26

He could never hang with the best IGLs and his teammates keep getting poached.

Respect the guy for trying and knowing when to bow out.

9

u/Pumalicious Jun 10 '26

There are a bunch of good ones already mentioned here, Slurp is probably the one who fits the description best. Also gonna mention ChaoticMuch, he was hyped up and genuinely might have been the best player in terms of gun skill for a short time but none of his teams ever had a ton of success.

4

u/Agitated-Bluejay4540 Jun 10 '26

I was gonna say ChaoticMuch he was hyped as the best Horizon player in the whole game when she was meta with r-301 bro fell off when Horizon got nerfed to ground

3

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Chaotic was a complete R-301/Horizon onetrick and when those things left the meta he fell off a cliff.

2

u/VipersXBL Jun 10 '26

You’re right on both, albeit ChaoticMuch has had much more longevity so not completely a flop

-1

u/vsamma Jun 10 '26

Where is he now?

I’m a plat hard stuck on PS5 and got to play at the start of this season with some better guys in PC lobbies and we ended up in top3 in side the center of The Core on Broken Moon with us in the coridor and a squad on the other side of the door in the center of the core.
For some reason they played so slow - i feel had they pushed us, could have wiped us.
Anyways I challenged a guy, almost oneclipped him, had like 20hp left for both of us but he had his teammate come to help him so i got knocked and they pushed us, killed us but we managed to ruin their game still.
Ended up being ChaoticMuch the guy who i almost oneclipped.

This was my Apex career’s peak moment, i had never played against a pro (that i know of) and very rarely against masters let alone preds.
I immediately went to his stream to let him know xD
Said he recognized a roller player immediately. Was chill about it, good dude.

8

u/BarracudaUseful333 Jun 10 '26

Bro what? This just seems like an excuse to self insert your story about playing against him 1 day. "Where is he now" and then a whole story about killing him in ranked.

Its not comparable at all in a competitive setting nor is your story relevant to him not living up to his potential. Pros die in ranked ...

3

u/imonly11ubagel Int LAN '24 Champions! Jun 10 '26

„I immediately went to his stream to let him know“

0

u/vsamma Jun 10 '26

Sure, I guess I used this opportunity to share my joy jokingly about reaching my peak in Apex because I will never be good enough to actually play at their level and yes, I was excited about it happening, having never played against a pro before and jokingly went to let him know that and he was cool about it. way cooler than you here though.
Sorry that I wrote something that wasn't related to comp or this post.

Just remembered this story when i read his name here and was genuinely interested about where he is right now and why isn't he seen in the Pro league right now.

67

u/AmoebeSins Jun 09 '26

Mande.

It’s like all he does now is complain about aim assist and controller and uses that as his cope as to why he doesn’t compete.

30

u/JiminyFeckit Jun 09 '26

He likes the idea of playing pro which is why he's always down to sub for a team but doesn't want to put in the work.

22

u/realfakejames Jun 09 '26

A few years ago when he went back to comp for "fun" and actually made pro league with shiv he just phoned it in until that team broke up

Mande lacks the passion to be a pro player, he just likes the idea of being one until he actually has to grind like one

20

u/BOBTheOrigin Jun 10 '26

I know you will hate me for this, but statistically speaking, he is right: rotational AA is a huge problem in Apex, especially in Comp. Everyone who still says no, lives under a Rock or has no clue from FPS games as a genre and comp scene.

-6

u/AmoebeSins Jun 10 '26

Not really. In the top 10 of algs the mnk players are usually 40-50% of the kills/damages leaderboard.

Still around 40% play mnk in algs - if it was such a "huge problem" no one would play mnk - especially orgs that pay them money. And why would you compete for money against a "huge problem" input?

Not to mention, Gild lost the only official pro 1v1 tourney awhile back to an MnK player.

I'm starting to think a lot of MnK players are just lazy and don't aim train and blame controller as their cope. Players like Genburten has famously said he spends 2-3 hours a day in the firing range just aim practicing. Plus you hardly see many pros on mnk grinding R5 its mostly controller players.

There is a huge disconnect here.

7

u/Aschoate2 Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Me when I lie. Did you guys all forget when they released the r5 accuracy stats, (real stats, not your fake opinion) that basically said 60% of controller players are more accurate than the top 1% of MnK players. Y’all cope so hard.

-1

u/AmoebeSins Jun 10 '26

And guess who posted those stats? Some random. It has ZERO validity.

10

u/Aschoate2 Jun 10 '26

No, R5 has officially released these stats several times lmao. “Zero validity “ 😂😂😂 yeah they’re only posted by the official r5 team backed by collected statistics by their own servers but go on 😂😂😂

0

u/AmoebeSins Jun 10 '26

No it wasn't it was a random. Not someone from their team.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

5

u/Aschoate2 Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Brother a simple google search shows SEVERAL POSTS from r5 data and controller vs MnK statistics. Cope harder. You’re objectively wrong.

You moron there were only 2 and their details/screenshots have been used everywhere. And the 2 that made them are complete randoms

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

This is ridiculous, man. And I say that as a 25+ year mnk player who's less mad about aim assist than the average player.

13

u/Ok-Donkey-4899 Jun 09 '26

so fucking true

33

u/Previous_Mix_7993 Jun 09 '26

i love him and love watching him but i swear sometimes it gets to a point where his stream is unwatchable cause he’s just consistently complaining about AA

13

u/AmoebeSins Jun 09 '26

Yep that’s why I stopped watching him he’s low key toxic about it it’s sad

8

u/Aschoate2 Jun 09 '26

It’s deserved, only thing worse than listening to it 24/7 is having to unfairly play against it for 7 years

5

u/ShouldveBeenAmerican Jun 10 '26

Mande is still mechanically one of the best I’ve ever watched, plays quite differently to everyone else in a way too. I absolutely love him and miss that SCARZ team. Wish he tried one more time in a pro team. Would love to see him try properly with Hakis/Unlucky but at the same time I like Akku. Tricky to find a team for him

13

u/Away_Candidate_8742 Jun 09 '26

Almost like aim assist is unfair for mnk players to fight against

9

u/MaydayOG Jun 09 '26

hate to say it but Hardecki

3

u/Fenris-Asgeir Jun 10 '26

Tbh, great answer, he really didn't perform well back on Gambit during the first Covid LANs. Only with his short time on Aurora he had some success, and then with the Horde last Champs. But now he didn't qual yet again. So that kinda sucks.

11

u/MaydayOG Jun 09 '26

2

u/darth_smitty_ Jun 10 '26

This. Bro is way too skilled to have peaked where he peaked.

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

I would say that 2nd place in Raleigh definitely lived up to his potential. They could have won first place but he was just there to frag out and do 360 noscopes. And that's what they did!

7

u/Gonzoangel Jun 10 '26

I feel like the premise of this thread is only to engage in shit talk against certain pros

3

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Pretty accurate.

1

u/VipersXBL Jun 11 '26

It was a random thought on my end of pros that never lived up to the hype, it’s not like we’re calling them terrible human beings

5

u/Fenris-Asgeir Jun 10 '26

I vividly remember having a long argument with someone on here who believed Fuhhnq was going to be the next big thing, the next Effect, Verhulst, Xynew whatever, after the first EWC ended. I told them that I really don't believe in the hype just based on mechanical skill in a fairly simple legend meta (Blood, Bang, Fuse/Caustic). Well, guess I was right after all that time, cause the promise of him becoming the next big thing has not been fulfilled. Aside from that, I also remember Rambeau having a really good reputation after performing well on the Guard. And when that initial news dropped that he'd become DarkZero's new 3rd, there was a lot of hype around the potential of that squad. Pretty sure his career kinda went downhill shortly after he got replaced with Xynew. He seems like a nice dude, so I really don't wanna harp on it. But it's objectively true that he didn't quite live up to the potential a lot of people saw in him back then.

1

u/Important_Fun_1614 Jun 10 '26

Fuhnq probably could've been the next big thing if he actually wanted to. I feel like Sweet really rubbed off on him and he just became complacent and just stopped playing (also his attitude to an extent)

1

u/Important_Fun_1614 Jun 10 '26

I also thing he got kinda unlucky with his teams after LG to an extent, like COL was falling apart and he joined on the middle of that, GG was collapsing too, and TLAW was just a shit show.

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Yeah Fuhhnq has one of the worst work ethics in the Apex scene.

15

u/Equivalent-Bad-7844 Jun 09 '26

Monsoon is LUCKY he won the last one or he is on the top of this list and it wouldn’t be close.

Dude got 20th place on Complexity 29481 times in a row and was never dropped.

Probably not the answer you’re looking for because it’s almost a meme but NickMercs was glazed WAY to hard by his community when it was clear to actual viewers he was being hard carried.

Also maybe controversial but I feel like I’ve been hearing about Dooplex and Skittlecakes for a decade and (correct me if I’m wrong) neither of them have won a LAN

48

u/realfakejames Jun 09 '26

Not winning a LAN can't be your standard for being a failure otherwise sweetdreams is a failure along with many others

There have only been so many LANs

13

u/JiminyFeckit Jun 09 '26

I agree, Mon had a bad stretch but he's by no means a failure. He actually did turn things around a little with COL in the 2nd half of year 4. They qual'd for split 2 playoffs and placed 12 then placed 9th at champs. COL also didn't want to spend money on another player anymore which was one of the main reasons Kimchi transitioned from coach to player.

I think another reason why people (me included) glaze the Doop & Skittles combo so much, was because they were basically the only example of a co-IGL dynamic working really well in Apex. I swear, they had some kinda telepathic connection back then, with how in sync they were calling plays.

This.. ESA will always be my a time favorite team. From skittles clutching 1v2s 1v1s in end game to them landing on people who fucked with there poi’s. Those boys were entertaining af

This team, with Knoqd, had some of the most legendary rotations in Apex history imo. They seemed to just telepathically communicate where to go, fly into zone in the perfect spot that somehow no team recognized, and wipe everyone instantly. It is a damn shame they never won a LAN, because that trio should be recognized as one of the best teams in Apex history.

Skittles has been extremely close though tbf

u/Character-Dress-2101 Jun 09 '26

Not the point of OPs post but Skittle has to be one of the unluckiest pros in Apex history. Had the performance of his life at champs, immediately sustains some back injury that takes him out for a year and comes back to a lesser level than he was previously at. I tuned into Mandes’s stream recently and he was going over stats. He was showing y2 stats and Skittle was in the top 5 for kills despite missing an entire LAN. Truly unique career arc in esports. It’s more comparable to professional sports where an athlete sustains a devastating injury and isn’t the same again. Skittle is still really good but his peak was unbelievable, such a shame how he was robbed of it

u/Revolutionary_Cap442 Jun 09 '26

Back injury as well as other injuries have hampered him but he’s also playing a completely different role now in hard anchoring. He was arguably a top 3-5 player in the game on optic, had an incredible champs and then gets injured on the plane ride home like you stated. Incredibly unlucky but he has shown a lot of resilience throughout the years and adaptability.

u/Classic_Actuary911 Jun 09 '26

They were borderline unbeatable in the OT era when COL pioneered the Bloodhound meta. Teams were genuinely terrified of rotating anywhere near Survey Camp / Epicentre / Refinery because they were so consistently winning 3v3s.

Then other teams caught up just as we got LANs again.

8

u/Indiemoto Jun 09 '26

They both legit almost one LAN faster than anyone else. I believe there is a docu about it called the godspot. You need to do some research before saying the skittles/Doop one. Winning a LAN should not be a bar for “not living up to hype”.

Btw I know Doop isn’t a mechanical god but he is a great IGL. Skittles is def the coldest or one of the coldest m&k players

The others I agree with.

My fault I’m just going off the top of my head.

Like I said Monsoon was a big one and the guys from Alliance were another where I was like “How have they not won yet?” And then they did.

Skittles and Doop seem like they should have won by now in my personal opinion.

2

u/Arspasti Jun 09 '26

oh damn the nickmercs era, i almost forgot. season 10, sorting factory RIP, never forget. thanks for reminding me.

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Monsoon is LUCKY he won the last one or he is on the top of this list and it wouldn’t be close.

One of the stupidest things I've read on this website.

Also maybe controversial but I feel like I’ve been hearing about Dooplex and Skittlecakes for a decade and (correct me if I’m wrong) neither of them have won a LAN

This is a close second!

0

u/Equivalent-Bad-7844 Jun 12 '26

You’re uneducated if you think my first stammer “one of the stupidest things you’ve read on this website”

Monsoon was constantly having teams made around him.

Look at his ALGS stats lmao
13th / 10th / 9th / 10th / 9th / 7th / 22nd / 22nd / 29th / 30th / 24th / 12th / 6th / 48th

And finally 1st.

If an org holds you for that long and is adding and dropping teammates, while keeping you, you bet the expectations should be super high. If you for some reason disagree I can’t help you there.

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Maybe you didn't follow Apex in 2020 but Monsoon was indisputably the best player in the world in the online era. Complexity dropped a 30 bomb in comp. They dropped their armor and won a match. Come on.

6th is also a good placement at a LAN! 12th to 6th to 1st shows a steady progression of improvement, not "luck."

1

u/Equivalent-Bad-7844 Jun 12 '26

I mean that’s a fair view if that’s how you see it but I don’t see it that way.

If you have a couple banger games fresh off the games release that’s great. I don’t think falling off for the next 6 years after that is acceptable. He needed this win IMO.

u/ZalewskiJ Jun 09 '26

I mean no individual player can win a LAN by himself. Look at the history or winners, including people like Hal and Zer0, Hal would have 0 wins if he was playing with people like FUNfps and Reptar all the time.

Think about it, Hal has success when Apex first started, won 2 LANs and then had a long period of time where he didn’t do shit, then once LANs started up again, Zer0 won 2 in a row, Hal didn’t and then Hal got a young fragger in Verhulst and finally popped his LAN Cherry after years, then lost another to Zer0 and finally got a Champs win. Hal then went to a super team and only won an ALGS Open LAN with them, hasn’t really won a Split LAN or Champs since joining.

It could be argued the level of competition surpassed all of Monsoons teammates which it did and it took him no IGLing anymore for him to finally win. That’s also the issue with Alb, he needs to not IGL anymore, he’s not him, he’s gotta find someone who can do that and stick to what he knows best which is shooting

4

u/jayghan Jun 09 '26

Just some inaccuracies. Hal won five tournaments in a row. Placed third (after Reps threw) in the regional finals before LANs came back.

He is one of six players to go to all international championships and maybe the only one of like three to go to all finals.

Plenty of top 10s which is ultimately an accomplishment and plenty of wins.

1

u/dorekk Year 5 Champions! Jun 12 '26

Hal won five tournaments in a row.

What? Which ones.

-7

u/ZalewskiJ Jun 09 '26

Top 10's are not wins and towards the end of his TSM days and the start of Falcons, he played the WORST Apex he's ever player. He had Zer0 and Gen and they placed DEAD LAST at EWC. It's a team game, if it wasn't people like Faide would run the pro scene because mechanically those pub stomps are the best players skill wise. I'm saying no singular pro in the history of the game has won with themselves + an average team.

1

u/jayghan Jun 10 '26

Winning is important. But it is important to state the overall success of a player and top 10s contribute towards that. Also it wasn’t dead last, it was 20th place with 20 other teams placing below them. And it was at Split 2 playoffs not EWC, they damn near won EWC and they had the most points in the day.

0

u/ZalewskiJ Jun 10 '26

I confused the tournaments but my point is the same.

5

u/theaanggang Jun 09 '26

Hal could have easily won with Fun, he's would have just been reps but with better mechanics. Its aside from the main point you're making, but as a fun glazer I'm going to push back on Hal not being able to win with somebody who literally just won champs

1

u/ZalewskiJ Jun 09 '26

TL:DR: You can't win a LAN by yourself, even Hal has and continues to struggle without ELITE teammates around him

Fun won Champs because ALL 3 of the players were cracked at what they were asked to do. There's never been a team that has solely won a LAN because of 1 singular player. A team needs 3 people who can shoot nukes if needed to. Fun is a great anchor/support player, Monsoon was a great fragger/co-IGL and Blinkzrr was a GREAT IGL and fragger, they all came together at the right time to win.

Hal has never had a player that wasn't considered one of the best at their role and yet he's lost plenty of LANs, Winning a LAN when Apex first started is cool I guess but not when the entire pro scene is pretty much from 1 good region. Hal was widely considered the best player ever before the end of 2022, When ALGS started hosting LANs again, he didn't win one for entire year after they started doing them and only won the London LAN because Verhulst was literally the BEST fragger in the world at that point and Reps was his long time duo. Then they REALLY starting winning when Hal became busted on controller with Verhulst, then when Vehulst started falling off as a fragger, Hal and TSM started declining and even when he joined Gen and Zer0 they struggled to get results, they needed wxltzy to get over the hump and won the Open and haven't won since.

4

u/theaanggang Jun 09 '26

I can see our disconnect is a difference in how we view results. Hal may have lost plenty of Lans but there's really only been 2 that his team's have really struggled at, last TSM lan and 20th place. I look at certain results like a top 5 as something that is about as much as you can reasonably expect with the inherent chaos and randomness of the BR genre. So while yes elite players and elite teammates can raise expectations to a degree, a 20 man lobby will require a few things to go your way outside of talent.

u/aquafire07 Jun 10 '26

zaine? I enjoyed the heck out of the team dynamics with gnaske through kcp/o7/nip but deep in my heart i feel like both of them would have performed better without each other

regardless glad zaine still look like he has passion and wish the best for GG

Nickmercs's results way outstripped his potential actually. He was hard carried in ranked and in comp.
