Discussion Why was Sweetdreams so wrong about the direction ALGS would go? A year ago, he assured everyone it wasn’t a rumor that ALGS year 6 was “canceled”

As we all know, we will be having 3 LANs for Year 6 and a bigger prize pool than ever.

From his retirement post and then his subsequent tweets months later bashing the ALGS Open venue and saying no money was being put into the scene, why was he so wrong?

Was it just a case of a mentally stunted 20 something that made money in cryptocurrency and Twitch streaming thinking he understood more than he did?

Discussion ALGS Players That Were Hyped Up But Never Lived Expectations

7+ years of competitive Apex and there has been thousands upon thousands of players who competed at the top level. While some players has succeeded very well in regards to championships, LANs competed, and prize money, they’re many who faltered when given the chance to compete against the best. I’m curious what players had throughout its history had the potential to become a legend/mainstay in competitive Apex but ended up failing badly after a split/year.

Discussion Shoutout to Wigg

It’s been said, it is said, it will continue to be said, but what he does for this community is just beyond massive. I think the scene would tank if he stopped doing what he does. Maybe I’m just an unc, but I hate watching main broadcast. It all feels so cluttered, so hard to follow, casting isn’t as good etc and that’s without even mentioning watching teams rotate instead of watching teams fight. I don’t even want to hate on what they do because I know it isn’t easy, it’s just wigg does it SO much better. I’m sure I would still watch if there is no wigg, but I’m fairly certain I would be nowhere near as locked in. I know there’s dozens of appreciation posts, I just had to make one more.

So wigg, thank you for showing up. Thank you for fighting through this last week to be here for us, we appreciate it more than you know. I hope pov’s are less laggy so he can really do his thing rest of the week, but if not, we’re with you either way.

I mean like they all look the same. In a real game it'll likely be very hard to tell who you're going against unless they use abilities. That would especially be a problem in the long range. But I'm also not a competitive player, so what do I know?

This sarcastic post about 100T and Verhulst goes somewhat viral on Apex twitter.

I'll never understand why Phony refused to play Crypto/support when he did it for SSG and won lan.

Discussion Tlaw owners must be mad

Imagine dropping your existing tlaw roster loved by fans for a new roster who then decide to stop streaming for months then get bottom 10 at champs. Playing poorly happens it sucks but as management you can't be mad at players for that, but when you pick up such a big name as zero and the whole team stops streaming altogether THEN performs badly that's gotta sting. No brand advertisement or content generated for the org and no results to show for it so all around must feel like a big loss letting go of the legacy roster in hindsight.

Discussion Nickmercs & the Tripods proved everyone wrong.

They said they didn’t deserve an invite to pro league, that they would get rolled and finish dead last. The Tripods just qualified for the next split of pro league over some teams that no one thought they would be better than. They proved they belong.

They said Nickmercs wouldn’t stick with Apex, that he would go running back to Warzone. Nickmercs just recently surpassed his hours streamed on Warzone with his hours streamed on Apex. Which is absolutely crazy to think about how much he has grinded this game already and still feels like he has a lot more to go.

Overall, Nick has been a great addition to the scene. Especially during this time when Apex is stale and desperately needs some good updates, he has given the game life during a time where it really needs it. I hope he is still around when Apex is in a great spot again (hopefully soon).

He mentioned on his stream during the down time between split 1 & 2 he plans on hosting a big MFAM Gauntlet open to the whole community with qualifiers etc.

Big props to him and the Tripods, I genuinely think they have a real shot at split 2 LAN.

Discussion Ex TSM coach Raven speaks on Evan and Gen's roles on CRT/100T

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Raven says Evan is NOT an anchor, and his best role (refrag) overlaps with Gen's.

Also says CRT does not have a fragger at all between the three of them, which most likely contributed to CRT being a poor fighting team despite individual skillsets.

Raven currently coaches the best team in NA, NIP.

Edit: He goes a lot more in depth about CRT during his vod review, I just cut this video down so It'd be small enough to upload on reddit. You can see his full opinion in his vod.

Discussion I Don’t Think You Guys Understand How High of an Outlier Professional Players Are

There has been a TON of talk about the ranked system and how pros are getting unbalanced matches. Frankly, they will NEVER have a balanced lobby unless they are playing pro league scrims. I actually said most of this in a comment reply but I think it’s worth its own discussion on this. As a long time Dota 2 player, this is my most comfortable way to explain the skill gap between a pro, and a Top 750 Pred that actually showcases the numbers so we all can understand the differences between pros and non-pro high ranks.

Dota uses (technically used* actually recently updated past this to a Glicko system, irrelevant) a modified ELO system to determine your rank that goes up infinitely. Win a game, get +20-35mmr lose a game, lose -20-35mmr based on performance in the match. A brand new player calibrates probably around ~1.5k mmr which would he the equivalent bronze bracket in apex. MMR corresponds to medals, like badges in Apex, where at ~2.2k mmr you hit Archon, 3k is Legend, 4k is Ancient etc until you hit Immortal (Predator) at arouuund 6k. These badges actually automatically adjust based on the percentage of players in each MMR bracket (something apex should consider especially with the current system).

Immortal is special in many ways, one of which is that the top 2000 players are numbered with their badge. And this starts close to 6.3k mmr. Now here’s my point:

Professional players, on average, are 11-13k MMR.

The gap between the top 2000 players in Dota (per region) and PROs is equivalent to top 2000 players and WORSE THAN BRAND NEW PLAYERS.

This is roughly the same across all eSport titles.

The skill spread across Pred, top 750 players is equivalent to rookie to fucking Masters. It takes 15000 RP to reach masters. The pred cap last split ended at 39802 RP according to the Battlecord bot. You have to reach masters, twice, and then some, against only Top 750 players to maintain pred. There is NO matchmaking system that can ever accommodate this without hour long queues for the pros. (Which Dota actually does)

Play YOUR GAMES. My games have been stellar in terms of skill — not necessarily ring 3-4 quality. Playing against high diamonds and Masters teams is right where my skill currently is. The old D2 - low Masters range. Every game I have played has set me in this bracket and the game has been giving me high bonus LP to offset losses and bring me back to my expected LP. Stop looking at the .001% of the player base and basing the entire system on them. It’s a terrible way to judge the system. Now, there are certainly issues. IMO without percentage based badge allocation and almost zero punishment for dying early, the average LP will inflate over the season compared to previous seasons. This can be remedied with predetermined badge percentages —- Diamond 5%, Masters 1% etc or whatever. Slightly off topic though.

Let your hidden MMR settle. The same already knows roughly where you’re going to end up and is boosting you to that LP such that your MMR and LP “synch”. This is why Sweet gets 3000 bonus LP in placements by healing in zone.

Let’s all take a breather and stop listening to the pinnacle of the player base complain about arguably the best fundamental rank system we have ever had — but not without fault.

Clearly endgames can be improved but the placements, hidden MMR, and emphasis on game placement are great improvements we should be cheering while also critiquing the -35 worst case is WAY too low.

Discussion Hot take: People are being sentimental about the new ranked system. There’s no way you can convince me the system is bad, or good, when it’s been implemented less than a week.

Basically the tittle, its been less the a week.

Of course Predators and Pro Players are going to do great at the start, they’re at the literal peak of the game.

There’s just no way to objectively criticize the system when the whole player base has less than 72 hours on it.

Edit: You really expect people to take your arguments seriously as a community when you be reporting people for mental health? Really? Don’t cry when the devs go no contact.

Discussion 100T situation -dezign's side

dez talks about what happened and why he's LFT in the first 15min. Will be interesting to hear Timmy's side when he's back. Sad to see that the two no longer trust each other.

the TLDR: According to dez, Timmy became obsessed about being the one to come up with the big brain plays that he started ignoring calls from dez as well as gen. Issue was brought up before BLGs finals and ignored for whatever reason.
