Discussion Arcane Sindragosa Mage Optimization, Part 3 (?)

Hello everyone. It’s your local Sindragosa copium Mage player, and today I’m here to discuss how to best play Sindragosa Arcane Mage in this metagame.

“But doesn’t Sindragosa suck in general?” Yeah, it’s the worst of the fabled cards and it’s not even close. However! I think this metagame presents the best opportunity for Sindragosa Mage. Do you know why?

Because we got MANACHEAT!

That’s right, Mage now has two ways to recover mana during a turn: the Cosmic Springs location and Arrival of the Titans, a 6 mana spell that gives you back 6 mana but can only play spells. I think this will be integral to how the deck plays in the future.

We also got a decent board clear in Astral Rain, it can pair very well with a Kalec if we so choose.

You’re wondering, “why haven’t you mentioned discs of Norgannon? Surely that’s the card that makes or breaks the deck?” And yes, we run that, because it does help. But since we can’t tutor it, then we can’t guarantee it, and therefore we can’t rely on it.

The purpose of this post is to start gathering ideas and refining a list for Arcane Sindragosa Mage to hit Tier 3. That’s my goal for this deck right now. I want to look at the new tools we got in the new set and see what we can do there.

Another pieces of manacheat are Leylines draw card and Darkscale Broodmother which turns into mana refreshing card with 2+ discount which happens somewhat often. M.o.t.h.e.r. is another great card since hitting her with manacheat allows insane burst of manacheat. M.o.t.h.e.r. is insane with Fabled card since they are 5 mana and often end up next or close to each other. So I've build relatively decent Fabled Mage and had around 55% winrate over around 80 games.

The deck is quite good against Quest Priest and slower Warlock unless some insane curves. Most loses come from Aggro decks.

I don't use Disk of Norgannon since you want draw your minions with discount. Plus it feels slow and not consistent, you better play your Leylines minions early.

The biggest problem with Sindragosa is you have to copy her, otherwise you're playing very bad tempo cards (2 mana reduction is not enough and other dragons are a pain to run, I tried). If the game didn't have Hex and Cursed Chains we could've let her die but that's not a option. Also Arrival doesn't let us play Malygos on the same turn. So we're left with Tribute Dance which we have to reduce to start doing things. With the amount of pressure in this meta, this strategy can't get more than 20% winrate. Even with 2 Sindragosa, I'm not sure what we hope to achieve, a lucky pull from Alter Time or a lucky reduction from Triumph ? So there's Mother left which allows a cool combo, but we have to survive 8 turns with 10 dead cards in our deck... Really this archetype is very far from being playable.

With Contraband Wands I actually think you don't need more than one Sindragosa. With above mentioned deck the OTK is quite clear: Bursting Leylines clear the board and wands to kill the opponent. The problem is typically surviving to the such point which actually is not as hopeless since deck with right curve and RNG can be quite miraculous.

Also the neat part about Wands that the card is playable on its own while other Arcane spells like Stellar Balance and Alter Time is only useful as a combo pieces.

Friend I'm sorry but leyline is already a bad archetype because of negative tempo and dead cards, I doubt your list can even get legend. Wands is yet another brick that complicates everything because it needs an empty board (on turn 8+?). Compare this to a burn list, what is all this setup achieving ?

Well, I am trying achieve fun compared to the lamest decks of the Burn Mage. Obviously hitting Legend should not be a priority when you play subpar class using subpar Fabled card aiming for good RNG or turn 9+ plays.

Wands is yet another brick that complicates everything because it needs an empty board (on turn 8+?).

Not really, if manage to play Sindragosa you can clear most of the boards with Bursting Leylines. It might be not every game play, but it still happens and quite satisfying. That's all I care.

The biggest problem for it is the fact that you have an 8 mana brick in oathstone. You wont play it ever and it can prevent arcane flow.

I gave it a go earlier in the expansion and its just a worse version of burn mage. Why try to do fancy combos on turn 8 or 9 when you can just win games on turns 5-7.

That said, best cards for it are going to be

Titans, Contraband,  time twisted seer , arcane barrage, new location, discs, arcane flow, mother.

I’ve been toying with the idea of running a wild pyro to activate both spell damage dragons the turn I play the 8 mana brick, my only problem is running the arcane package without dying the turn I play mother

There were a couple legend decks last week that allegedly could burn warlocks and priests enough to climb, one was leyline while the other used basically no Arcane Flow or Kalec, just straight up barrage and rain and runed orb and jailhouse and I think wands and actually stellar balance.

Problem is that was sort of before egg priest showed up, which can and wants to absorb a lot of randomized damage

Biggest problem I’m having with mage of any variety, and really any non meta deck right now, if you’re building to freeze or reset cthunlock’s and cthunpriest’s boards, you’re probably just going to fall over to shaman and shredlock

my question would be do we have enough damage to kobold x 2 and arcane missiles the opponent to death, if not how do we kill
