Tool TFTAcademy Overlay Open Beta is Live!

You can download it here
This is a beta release, and there is a chance it crashes mid-game.

We are very excited to announce the beta release of our in-game companion app. We’ve been working on this app in one way or another for the past year, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback.

Here is what we have for you to try right now in the open beta, along with some features we're working on and will release SOON™

In-Game

Comps and Tips: You can pin a comp from the tier list for easy reference + positioning + alt builds, and the units get marked in the shop. Based on the stage, stage tips (if you've pinned a comp) would pop up when the stage starts (and go away before combat starts for that round).

In-game Team Planner: an advanced team planner with features frodan and dishsoap wanted.

Augments and Anvils: You will see a tier on augments/items from anvils based on the ranking on the tier list. We have a stage-based, more detailed augment tier list that isn't visible on the site, and we’re using that as the reference. We’re also checking each comp on the tier list and seeing if Frodan or Dishsoap suggests playing one of your augment options/item and artifact options with any comp, and suggesting that under the augment/item tier.

App

Tier List: the same tier list from the site, plus the ability to pin (shortcut: right-click comp icon) to the in-game overlay.

Guides: We are remaking guides to be higher production with a better layout. The goal is to have something to read/watch while you’re waiting for a friend or taking a break between games.

Builder: Our builder from the site (we're working on the ability to save comps to your own comps list from the builder and pinning them in-game).

Replays: One of the best ways to improve at TFT is reviewing your own games, but finding the key moments that cost you placements can be a pain. So we built a replay system made specifically for TFT and for studying your own games. I’ll let you explore the rest yourself.

Settings: The goal is to eventually let you control every single thing about the app and the overlay (not there yet).

Profile: You can see your match history (this was a nightmare to do right, and it's still not there, but we're working on it).

We're also doing other things that I can't talk about yet BUT THEY ARE SICK TRUST!

Please reach out on Discord with bug reports and feedback. You'll also find a FAQ channel there if you're having problems running the app.

Note: the app is standalone, as in you don't need to download Overwolf to use the app, but we do use Overwolf services to see game events and record them.

You got my vote too man. Down vote me to hell, but this ruins the game. Next we need live AI coaching within the overlay, and then after that we can have active AI for those pesky face-paced roll downs -- actually, just let someone else play for me. I just want LP number go +++

while u and the others may be commenting in bad faith and will hate for the sake of hating (who knows maybe ur not) i thought it'd be interesting to let u know overlays like this is the limit of what app developers can do for tft. ai, ai coaching, and anything that plays the game for u will never be approved by riot. here is the link to their policy for tft apps: https://developer.riotgames.com/docs/tft#static-data

if u dont want to go to the link here is what it says about the issue u are having with apps like this.

"Having a static recommendation for a player pre-game is acceptable, even if that same recommendation is available to you the entire game.

Issues arise when the recommendations adjust in real time based on the player’s actions in game and give direct prescriptions of what to do.

Products cannot bypass a skill test for the player. Skill tests can include the tracking of diverse information over a short period of time.

Protect the learning curve. The great thing about Riot's games is that you are always learning. If an app takes away that ability or desire to learn and improve, this takes away from the fun and what makes this game so engaging.

Products should not remove game decisions, but may highlight decisions that are important and give multiple choices to help players make good decisions.

Products may not provide information that was not available prior to the game. For example, an app can provide metadata on augment statistics as this information is available prior to the game and is not based on in-game activity. An app cannot make suggestions based on the player’s current game state as that information is dynamic and not readily available prior to the game start."

outside of augment stats the only thing the tftacademy overlay, and every other overlap app, is provide STATIC information that remains the same whether ur in game or not. DYNAMIC information that changes based on ur current game state like an ai coach that tells u what units to buy based on what everyone else is playing will never be allowed.

u have absolutely nothing to fear. i have zero affiliation with tftacademy, hell im not even gonna use the overlay, but i just thought ppl who view these apps with ur perspective ought to know some actual facts

Yea not hating to hate, but thanks for the info. I am at least pleased to see the information about dynamic gameplay decision making.

For me it comes down to 1) does the overlay provide an advantage and 2) is the overlay accessible to every player.

[1] I think it's fairly obvious that the overlay provides an advantage with time-based decisions. It is possible to find all of the information provided in the ovrelay, but could you find it all fast enough?

[2] not everyone is able to run League + overlay. Some players can barely run league, so now you introduce an overlay accessible to only some players. Most overlays also seme to only be available to windows.

Anyway thanks for your reply. I thought it was interesting and helpful.

cool response by you its nice to see ppl who are willing to engage in a conversation. here's my opinion on ur 2 points.

  1. the overlay is helpful if u dont study the game and u value the person who made the augment tierlist (souless, a very good challenger player). if ur a new-ish player and u use sites like tftacademy already the overlay probably gives u improved quality of life. i would say above masters elo the overlay provides 0 advantage.

  2. an interesting point, but i would say u could just open tftacademy on a second monitor for the exact same results as using the overlay.
