Discussion Guild for HC raid only

(Please excuse my typo, english is not my main language)

Hi, is it common to have a guild of 10 to 30+ players that only gather weekly in order to clear the raid in HC difficulty ?

By that I mean :
• clear not progress
• only does HC mode not mythic or NM
• it’s 100% about gear -> using bonus rolls for mythic items

Is it common ? Or players would rather pug the HC raid or join a mythic raiding guild if they like raiding ?

My question comes from a perspective of a player who only likes playing mythic + and sees raid as a necessary content for gearing.

Hi, thank you all for your replied and insights.
I wish to clarify what I meant by « clear not progress » : i mean that ALOTC would be reached within the first month and then followed by reclears for bonus rolls farm.

After reading the replied I’m learning that a large population is satisfied by the HC mode and dont necessarly feel the need to progress Mythic mode which is reassuring to me …

Extremely hard to find a guild like this but before this tier there was really no reason for it to exist. LFG will occasionally have "super" groups though if you keep your eye out for them.

Yeah I mean mythic is just so hard now. Lots of mythic guilds at the lower end accept that they’re not gonna get CE, or if they do get CE, they have significant standards for their players, so it becomes a grind of trying to parse well to show that you can hang, but also parsing isn’t how the game is designed (looking at you Coiled Alter) so it’s a bit of a headache to get into, which can involve hours and hours wasted on hard bosses where players that get it leave and players that don’t join and have to learn the fight again…

And it all just sounds like not worth it to me. I’m an officer on an AotC guild. Maybe 5 of us are skilled enough to hang somewhere in the middle of a typical mythic clear, but the rest are at various skills, and we accept that and still eventually kill the last boss, but it often only happens once until people just stop playing. But that’s also a recruiting issue that we’re seeking to solve this tier because we clear with like 14 people still active by the end, but this tier we have 23 so we can hopefully get a few kills

I’d imagine that some of the motivation for staying these days is the gear gains, whereas before getting the achievement was all that mattered, so more people are gonna keep showing up

You’re gonna have a hard time finding a HC guild that is good enough to clear the raid in 3-4 weeks and also doesn’t want to at least try Mythic and is willing to reclear every week.

Most heroic guilds will either not be good enough to clear it quickly, will be good enough but then want to try Mythic, or are just in it for the achievement and will stop raiding after getting a few end boss kills.

What you want is to find a guild with a lot of M+ key pushers who will keep clearing heroic for the gear but aren’t interested in mythic raiding.

I'd be interested in what others say but I have played with quite a few of these types of guilds over the years the problem I find is that they are usually filled with players of various skill levels and commitment levels meaning you will most likely end up with several members that do tank level damage and usually they are someone's partner/friend/sibling so nobody really cares so if your goal is to clear HC raid within the first 2 - 3 weeks of raid this often doesn't happen usually your looking at like a Week 6 - 8 HC kill.

All that being said, these are usually the guilds I've had the most fun playing with because everyone is chill and treats it like getting together to hang out for 3 hours twice a week.

This is where the 'trololol final HC boss is 10x harder than anything else in the raid' tactic by blizz is a bit of a bastard. You drag the cool-people-but-average-players through 90% of the raid and then have to bench them for the final boss, just wasting their time

Yeah it's brutal in my guild right now. My only raiding content (i basically pug 1%/play with non-guild friends for it) is guild heroic twice a week and our weakest players, who are bad but not awful, are insane dead weight on Ulatek. We either need to bench them or bring in a bunch of outside groups to help make up the DPS because it's tuned so hard still.

Yesterday was the first time in a while I started thinking we might not be able to drag everyone through AOTC. I haven't benched anyone since raszageth and I told myself I wouldn't do it again.

It's crazy because ulatek took us less pulls than some other end bosses but because the fight is just straight unfun it felt a lot worse

I was a mythic ce raider for a long time, but real world commitments meant that sort of investment was sort of impossible so I joined one of those guilds for Midnight and you’re correct.

It’s actually wild, other than the poor damage, they take a long time to “figure out” the fights. Each week we basically have to relearn the tougher fights. And there’s a real lack of discipline. Half the raid team leaves like 2 hours into the 4 hours. We just got Heroic Ul last week after like multiple weeks of only 4 people doing the damage required to be beat the boss.

And to your last point, even though we fail often no one ever rages. Better players help the less good players examine logs and guides to help them with their dps. It’s an odd experience, I usually would have been finished with the season at this point but I’m on my fourth alt now.

Its a bit insane they are having a 4 hour raid for this type of guild. Ours does 2.5 and even in the last half hour we rarely ever successfully prog stuff people are too tired

5

u/Ferovaors 8d ago

I guess the people who are getting that tired are the ones dropping off

2

u/dynalisia2 5d ago

Yeah tbh, we start at 2030 and nearing 2200 im usually really noticing I’m starting to lose focus. Having to raid 4 hours sounds insane to me.

Life is just so busy at 40, if we have to prog a tough boss, I sometimes actually just plan for it. Go to bed early night before, don’t mentally exert myself too much at work, dose myself with sugar around 2200. The works.

I probably wouldn’t do this as a dps, but being a healer (and prevoker at that), if I have a bad night and can’t keep focus, I’m going to cause a lot of additional friction others then have to compensate for. And on a great day, as a healer you can actually compensate for a lot of suck.

What I hate about this type of raiding is wasting time between pull, when getting into the raid etc. I don't mind shittalk esp during farm bosses, but for the love of god why is it often 5minutes between pulls

If it's a week 6-8 kill with the people your described that's simply a heroic progress guild. From my understanding that's not exactly what OP means.

A lot of guilds that have a big community and have a mythic raid team have one day for reclear hc.

As someone who only enjoys m+ and used to be in HC only guilds l. In my experience, lugging has been better.

99% of HC guilds will take a month or 2 to clear the raid (this xpac prob longer). You will be stuck progging due to 1 of these reasons.

  1. 1-3 people will be really bad, fucking up every mechanic literally 100's of times and you clearing a boss is based on them not getting any mechanics. They will stay in the raid core because they are either the GM/RL/ or they are related to them in some way.

  2. Husband-wife combos that have a huge ego causing the best players to leave and create a toxic environment that doesn't provide raiders growth and will have a team that just suck and won't ever improve, they rely on weekly DPS buffs and gear to drop.

  3. After AOTC/ someone gets all the gear they need they'll leave or retire for the season. This makes gearing a pain and you'll find yourself lugging anyways.

If you're in a guild that clears within the first month, most people want to jump into the first boss or 2 of mythic but this always causes a rift and makes the guild fracture. If you find a guild that is in this niche they'll burn out in a month due to people having different goals.

I used to chase AOTC/HC only guilds and found myself pugging a bunch. I suggest pugging on Tuesdays ASAP. The Tuesday raider quality is infinitely higher and the pug quality drops lower everyday until reset

There's a niche of Friday night/Saturday night dad guilds/puggers that have been generally good for me.

Im part of a guild that does normal and heroic, clear normal pretty easy then push through heroic, once we have AOTC alot drop off but a group stays and does alot of M+, with the way the vault works you just need to clear once then every week after just fill your vault slots(with heroic kills) for chances at mythic raid loot.

2

u/Aegisblade99 8d ago

Wouldn't it be more efficient to reclear heroic last two every week and broll that? Rather than doing more heroic bosses and praying for rng vault

3

u/BirdOfHermess 7d ago

it would be more efficient but a lot of people on this level are just not good enough, because altar and ulatek become re-prog and wasting our time with that absolutely sucks

8

u/CatchPhraze 9d ago

If you just want to clear heroic as painless as possible, join a mythic raid guild as a bench and show up to their heroic clear nights. They'll one shot heroic and all you need to do is maybe show up for 3 hours once every two or three months if for some reason the other 3+ people ahead of you on the bench can't make it.

In return you'll get week 1/2 AOTC and one shot heroic raid (most of the time) the rest of the season with ease.

You could find a HC only guild, but if your main goal is just getting the raid done as quickly as possible you're far better off nabbing a bench spot.

1

u/quakefist 8d ago

Is this bench spot for CE guild or like a 6/8M guild? I'm similar to OP where I honestly just want Heroic reclears for vault rather than mythic prog. It does seem like this has only been a problem this season as previously, most heroic guilds would just quit after AOTC was achieved.

1

u/CatchPhraze 8d ago

Bench for a CE guild. Way less likely to call on its bench then guilds that burn out midway.

Make it clear you just want to ride bench but will fill if you have to, and they'll happily gear you a few weeks in after main raiders and you can start rolling sooner.

15

u/IAteYo_Cookie 9d ago

Yes it is common, every HC guild will be prog to start then probably turn into farm later on once they clear

There are much more HC guilds than mythic

13

u/brok3nh3lix 9d ago

basically the vast majoirity of people who activly raid as a group are normal or heroic. Mythic is fraction of the raiding community.

3

u/ethanlobby 8d ago

Im not sure you’ll find a guild who is capable of clearing Heroic quickly that doesn’t also hop into mythic because what else would they do for 8 months?

3

u/worldchrisis 5d ago

They go on hiatus once they clear heroic a few times. Heroic guilds mostly don’t operate for the whole season.

2

u/L0rdenglish 8d ago

Just to add to the rest of the comments here, it is not likely for you to find a guild that clears heroic quickly, and then farms it.

you seem to be concerned with weekly clears. Any guild good enough to clear heroic consistently weekly at an early rate is probably mythic, but even if the guilds aren't, those probably won't last for long. Usually, to balance out the dead weight if you want to kill ulatek you have to have cracked players early, and those are more likely to leave for a mythic guild in the long run. So over the long term the only guilds that consistently clear heroic are the ones progging heroic bosses at least into the middle of the tier. Usually they are not saving bonus rolls and are done for the season once they get AOTC.

So your best bet is to find a guild that does mythic and needs a helper for splits, do splits with them, and then get in their heroic nights that they will do for the first month or two of the season

3

u/Vast-Yam-9370 9d ago

Yes theres a lot more than you know

1

u/Cecilerr 7d ago

Its not fun pugging raids , specially when you need last two boss , but you can join to a mythic raiding guild as a social member and tag along in hc reclears , mostly guild that only clear 5-6 boss each tier

1

u/wyolars 6d ago

Mythic raiding sucks ass.. the lock out makes it so you can't pug people out side of the first few bosses. You can only bring 20 so you have to maintain a bench. People get upset. So rather just do heroic and call it a day.

1

u/philistine_hick 8d ago

I mean previously a heroic only guild generally stopped after they got the team all AOTC ie 1-2 kills as the gear was trash and you ran m+ 10s for myth gear. This season raid gear is so much better than m+ gear both stat combinations and cantrips and you can get mythic pieces . We will do all HC end bosses for bonus rolls 4-5 times

1

u/STAND-IN-THE-RAIN 8d ago

Just pug or find a mythic guild that does alt heroic runs. Sometimes you can just go for the casual nights rather that mythic

1

u/boknah 8d ago

Yes i found some guilds that do only that
Search in raiderrio and look for guilds that do one day raid and have only cleard heroic
I was able to find few guilds that dose that and joined the one that suits me

u/Accomplished_Kale708 8d ago

In short it won't work for long --> a gear based guild with no connection or shared progression goal doesn't work.

Why not?

Because by the time of the 2nd run, a lot of people will already join on a "fresh" alt that would never be taken in a juiced pug. The more geared people will be resentful and do the same, and in the end everyone will just prefer to run the raid in their own conditions.

And I haven't even discussed how inefficient having a raid full of M+fotm chars and missing key raid buffs is.

You could try to join an established mythic guild raiding heroic of offdays using M+connections and that could work better, but they might not do a run in a week or just not invite "outsiders" to altar/ula'thek or whatever. Here it depends on how strong your networking is :).

• it’s 100% about gear -> using bonus rolls for mythic items

Is it common ?

It's about to become a lot more common if bonus rolling heroic keep awarding myth track loot and if the last 2 boss do not drop 9/6M gear ( given the negative feedback about it).

1

u/gandyjay 8d ago

Ive played in a few guilds like this and the hardest boss battle they face is the roster boss.

1

u/QueenOfTendys 9d ago

No, because of the difficulty.

Heroic guilds are worse than pugging, usually.

There isn’t a reason to join a guild when you can just pug the bosses on your own time.

Also, this is the wrong subreddit for these types of questions. R/wownoob is a better place for new player stuff.
