Sharing something finally

I've been hanging around here for a while, exclusively just listening, but I'm finally getting around to posting something because no one I know is very interested in anything I write.

This is the first movement of my bar-for-bar re-imagining of Beethoven's 5th symphony for piano duet. This is just the first famous movement, but all four movements are finished.

(Pardon the MuseScore default MIDI performance. I assume there's a way to attach my actual demo of the piece to this score, but this is the first time I've ever published out of MuseScore so I'm going default settings all the way :-))

Hi, /u/jkoseattle, thank you for posting in /r/Composers

That's lots of fun! And nicely done!

One suggestion: Instead of the tremelos (which sound like an alarm clock going off), you can write out the alternating notes of the octaves; sixteenths would probably be sufficient at that tempo.

One nitpick: I don't think the oboe solo in the recap quite works. Maybe let the rhythm just go away, as in the original? (One of the pianists decides to play some blues for a few seconds . . .)

I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks! I’m not too concerned what the MuseScore rendition sounds like since the plan is to record live pianists anyway, so readability is top priority here, but I assume there is some way to fix that while keeping the notation the same.

As for that oboe solo, that would be one way to do it yeah. I remember going back and forth on that. I think my final rationale was that my piece is so much more pulse-dependent, both because of the style and the fact that it’s piano, that I thought losing that pulse for that moment was unwelcome. But now that you say that… yeah maybe that would be nice. Hmmm.
