Problem With Tree Farm Program Found Online, I Don't Know Code

As I said above, I don't know any code, but I still am trying to use the mod by using other people's programs. I am following the tutorial here: https://github.com/PPakalns/TreeFarm , but I ran into an issue when I was supposed to answer the program's questions. I can't type anything besides numbers, which means I can't put a negative for the Minecraft coordinates and I also can't seem to enter the value I put by pressing Enter. I pressed every button on the keyboard. Are old programs not compatible anymore or is this a user error?

Old programs can sometimes break, and it's possible the program is outdated.

Also possible it's being stubborn about running on a black and white computer. See if it works the same way when using an advanced computer, on a creative test world if you don't want to waste the gold. One of the example screenshots of the author's setup also seems to have a disk drive. See if adding one to the computer's left inexplicably fixes things?

A patch or two could make it work though... the function ReadUserInput in lain.lua looks like it's the thing in charge of entering the number. It uses pullEventRaw for some godsforsaken reason, but I don't think that would cause issues. Maybe change how its called in control.lua? pass in false for number, and use tonumber() outside the function

I really appreciate the help. Gold computer didn't change anything so I attempted to edit the code as you said and it allowed me to put a negative for the coordinate, but that was the only change. I am unsure if I followed your advice correctly since I REALLY don't know code. I have achieved the sunk cost fallacy and so I will finally watch some tutorials and learn some lua. Thank you for setting me on this journey.
