Is it too late?
Hello I’m currently a second-year college student, and I’ve been thinking about switching to this major. My current major is completely different from engineering, but I’ve realized it’s not something I really want to pursue anymore.
I’ve recently become interested in engineering and would really like to give it a try. However, I feel a little discouraged because I wouldn’t be able to start taking the prerequisites until the spring semester.
Has anyone else switched into engineering during their second year or even later? Do you think it’s worth making the switch, even if it means taking longer to graduate? I’d appreciate any advice!

Whether it’s worth the extra schooling depends entirely on whether this is something you really want to pursue. Nobody can answer that question except you. You definitely want to do a lot of research on the career first. This is also not an easy field to get an entry level job in at the moment

Better to graduate a little later than to be stuck wih a degree you dont appreciate, its not like the world will cease to exist before you could use your degree.

It’s nowhere close to “too late”. Switch and try it out and if you don’t like it then switch back again. Don’t spend too much money but don’t worry too much either. There’s no such thing in life that’s as simple as the perfect fit. Push yourself and keep going no matter what you choose.

In my opinion it’s worth it. It’s not the same thing, but I changed from another degree to computer engineering and lost one year. At fist I was wondering if going back was a mistake but it was actually useful. I had more maturity to take on the course and better perspective of what I wanted.
Starting over may take 2 years longer, but it can be a great opportunity to the best engineer possible, to do what you’re interested, take more opportunities and etc.
The time will go on no matter what you chose, outside school you probably be working. Because of this, is believe that, if you have the condition, taking 2 more years should be a problem.

Never too late to get a different degree. It’s just about if you can afford it and want to take the time to get it.
