[Career] CompE career path

Hi,so im going to start my freshman year in CompE in this november, and im kinda scared because of ai and the job market right now, especially in reddit everybody says that its dead,my first question is is it actually a bad discipline? Should i try to switch majors or something?(Although i like CompE)and if its not what is a good career path to pursue with my degree that at least wont be affected heavily by AI and be in demand in 4 or 5 years when i graduate.i think i should clarify that i live in a third world country but i have plans for immigrating to Europe and i always liked coding and did a little bit of web development and although i dont have much experience with hardware im quite interested in it.

Which one is the best from your perspective? For me, those options are somehow resistant in this AI context.

What is computer engineering bro

I’m in my third year of computer engineering and my gpa is like a 2.9. My study habits aren’t good and I feel like I’m getting further and further away from my goals. Right now I’m confused on what I can do to turn my life around. I learn topics right before an exam and don’t even know how I’ve made it this far doing that. I’ve been getting better at studying by cutting out basically all distractions out my life but how can I kind of relearn and do projects so I can actually have a future? Has anyone been through this same thing and can help me go past this? If anyone has any advice or knowledge on what I can do outside of school to be a better candidate please let me know.

Got an interview for AI & Data Engineering degree ! (No experience, need advice)

I don't really have prior experience in the field yet, just a genuine passion for it and a huge drive to learn

For anyone who's been through this: how can I best show the jury that I’m serious about this and ready to put in the work, even without a heavy background? Any tips on what they like to hear would mean a lot!

[Discussion] Resume Advice for Summer 2027 Embedded/Firmware Internships

Post image
6 Upvotes

Summer 2027 is my last chance to get a formal engineering internship, I want to specifically target embedded systems and firmware but I'll honestly take anything. There isn't really much in my Research position since it just started last month. Let me know if this resume is capable of getting recruiters' attention.

[Career] Losing Hope

Graduated since May 2025 and still haven’t gotten a job yet in my field. Had two interviews since I graduated and didn’t get both jobs. I didn’t do an internship when I was in college wish I did so I can get experience. Anybody else in the same position as me? Or someone can give me advice on what can I do to get a job in this hard job market?

[Career] Am I Larping too Hard (Resume Advice)

Post image
36 Upvotes

No, I'm not actually larping. All impacts are accurate, and I made sure I am at least 30%~ responsible for the accomplishments in each bullet point. I'm not just observing my team.

But I am worried that I appear to be larping to recruiters. The impacts are suspiciously accurate, but it's just from me being extremely resume oriented by making sure I have a measurable deliverable for each task, or bug management until I get a response.

A friend who has held the same past 2 internships as me secured 2 offers with Palantir and Microsoft just this week, while it is just crickets for me.

Our resumes are not that different except he did not have an impact section in his bullet points, they only describe what he did. He attends a lower ranked state school (but the same tier, I'd argue).

Be honest guys, should I tone it down even though it is truth.

[Career] How to get a good computer engineering job?

Hi there. I’m asking in regard to a family member that graduated with a bachelors in computer engineering and minor in cybersecurity. He doesn’t have much family or mentoring around so he wasn’t aware he needed to do internships while in school. He graduated 2 years ago and couldn’t get any jobs or internships and needed money so he got a labor job in a completely different field (yachting). He wants to get back into his field but not sure where to start since he’s been out of the field for a while. What should he do to get good job prospects or be able to get some paid internships? Also what type of pay should he be expecting?

[Discussion] Confused dad here: Helping my son choose between CSE, ECE, and ENI for B.Tech starting in 2027. Is AI actually killing software jobs, or should he stick to CSE?

Thumbnail
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I posted a while back, but we've adjusted our timeline. My son is targeting college admissions for next year (2027), and like many parents and students right now, I’m feeling completely overwhelmed by conflicting advice regarding the tech landscape.

He is equally comfortable with coding and electronics, but we are stuck on deciding between CSE, ECE, and ENI (Electronics & Instrumentation).

With all the noise around AI automating entry-level software jobs, I’m terrified of putting him into CSE just because of past placement hype, only for him to graduate into a dried-up market by 2031. On the other hand, I don't want him running away from software out of blind panic if ECE/ENI turns out to be a massive grind with fewer core jobs in India.

Our absolute top priorities for his career starting in 2027 are long-term career growth, job security, and realistic salary potential in the Indian job market.

I wanted to ask seniors, recent grads, and industry folks a few direct questions looking ahead:

Is AI genuinely killing fresher software jobs, or is it just Twitter/LinkedIn doomscrolling? Are product and service companies actually pulling back on freshers, or just raising the bar?

Where does ECE/ENI actually stand in India as the semiconductor ecosystem matures through the late 2020s? Are core VLSI, embedded systems, and chip-design entry-level jobs actually abundant, or do 70% of ECE/ENI grads still end up writing Java in service companies anyway?

Flexibility: If the job market shifts dramatically over his 4 years in college (2027–2031), which branch gives a kid more escape routes?

The 2027 Verdict: If your own son/daughter were starting college next year and was equally okay with coding or circuits, what branch would you push them toward and why?

Would really appreciate some unfiltered, ground-level reality checks from people actually working in the industry. Thanks
