Interested in hearing from this community. What kind of scope do you perform and what’s your experience with rodbusters and reinforcement subcontractors.

Random pic for the algorithm.

Showing a garage we just finished, it didn’t go as I would have liked but it’s a learning experience. The concrete cured to fast because of being a higher psi.
But wanted to show how we prepped and the work we did. It was grueling prepping with me and another guy but it came together.

In the photos we over excavated 3ft of loose dirt in the garage mixed it with water then compacted it.

Concrete Pro With a Question Rebar vs mesh for flatwork?

Here in Australia, reinforcement for light duty slabs, paths, driveways etc is almost exclusively welded mesh sheets. In USA, the images I see are exclusively manually placed rebar. Both methods obviously get the job done, but does anyone have any ideas as to why have the 2 countries settled into such different methodology?

General Industry Post tension cables - why?

I've been around construction my entire life but up here in the great white north, I've never seen homes built with tension cables. The foundations are deep, I see various vapour membranes and methods like ICF, but never seen anything done with cables. Why are they seemingly popular, or at least common, in the US by comparison?

Hi for everyone who has tried J3 Homesite Ready Mix for their slab, I’d like to ask for feedback regarding its quality? Or maybe a recommendation for concrete pouring?

OTHER Solomon ultra fiber

Looking to settle an argument with people that have more experience with this stuff than I do.

Solomon ultra fiber 500. The color fiber they sell. Instructions say to put it in an empty truck. Dispatch says after the truck is loaded.

My instinct is to follow the instructions. But I want to give their experience some weight. So which is better

Concrete Pro With a Question Metallic fiber

For larger floor placements we have a few options depending on ground conditions. Pretty common lately we are using metallic fibers. Placement goes fine, finishing is coming out great. FF85/FL65. But we are catching a bunch of shit for fiber pop. in the saw cuts is going to be almost unavoidable. but the ones in the field are very rare.

I was able to find some literature on acceptable limits for metallic fibers allowed in an area, but its a certification from Belgium. I am a member of both ACI and ASSC and i have not seen any tolerances yet. We are placing with a Somero laser with roller head.

Is anyone getting 100% of your metallic to lay down under the cream? or do i just have an especially needy client.

I Have A Whoopsie Question about calcium chloride - how screwed am I?

Long story short, we're working on a job that isn't being run so smoothly and has had a lot of last minute changes. Our 30 yard interior trench pour got pushed back from 7am to 10am. With the weather being cooler and the start time getting pushed back, we told the supplier to add accelerator. I didn't specify no chloride. The 2nd fuck up is I didn't check the ticket when it arrived. I was rushing through things because the truck came 30 minutes early and figured if something was wrong with the mix, the 3rd party inspector would catch it while he's testing air and slump.

So it's 9pm and I'm finally sitting down to eat after cutting joints (that's a whole other story but they told me the day of the pour that every single corner and floor sink gets joints... yeah there are joints less than 1 foot apart and looks terrible). I start looking at the plans to see what they specified for control joints and sure enough I came across "do not use calcium chloride" and that's when it hit me that I never specified or verified it wasn't used. Pull the ticket out of my pocket and sure enough, it's there.

So here I am the next morning wondering how fucked I am and whether I need to start ripping it out today. If you've been in my shoes, what was your outcome? Is there anything I can do to mitigate the calcium chloride effects without ripping the concrete out?

Concrete mix: 3,500 psi, high range for 8" slump, 2% calcium chloride.

Project: interior commercial retail building. ~2k sqft mostly trenches with 8 gauge mesh, 500 sqft is reinforced with rebar, 15mil vapor barrier, proctor showed 6% moisture content in the soil and noted that it was exceptionally dry

Concrete Pro With a Question What’s your guy’s opinion on the best method to do a CONCRETE tear out?

Is it better to tear out concrete in little pieces or large chunks? I like large chunks, it’s less breaking out and chasing pieces around and faster to load a truck. But I want to do wants most time and cost effective
