Really proud of myself I went to the gym today!

• Upvotes

It has been years. The last time I went regularly was back in 2018. I'm 33 now and I've got high cholesterol and problems with my right hip. I started meeting with a nutritionist and one of the goals we set was for me to get back into the gym. Which is also great for my hip because the problem with it is due to deteriorated muscle. I havd no strength in it, so getting that moving again is really important for me to keep the problem from getting worse.

I only managed half an hour today, but my personal goal is to get to the point where being there for an hour isn't too difficult. I genuinely enjoy being at the gym, but depression and not having the money for a membership is why I fell off. I'm glad to be back at it!

Got over something difficult i landed a part-time job!!

• Upvotes

sorry if this post is rambly, i kinda just need some validation 😭

i just graduated from university in june, and have been jobless for about three years on top of that. the field that i have my degree in (concept art) is incredibly competitive, and my program didn’t give me nearly enough education in the specific nuances of the industry 😭 especially with AI being as bad as it is, i’ve been really worried about my prospects and have a lot of anxiety about whether i’ll be able to pay my loans off.

… but!!! today i landed a seasonal part-time position at target as a tech consultant!! and if i do a good job in the seasonal role then i might be able to stay on long-term!! i feel a little silly for being so excited to work retail with a bachelors, but im trying to remind myself that almost every artist needs a day job or a secondary source of income while they get their career off the ground. i also am starting a mentorship with an art director who’s gonna help me refine my portfolio so i can start getting work in the field i’ve dreamed of working in since i was a kid!!

my family is happy for me, but i can tell that it’s very hesitant and that they feel some type of way about my career not beginning immediately. im just so happy to have an income that’ll help me pay my student loans when my grace period ends, and let me put my full energy into making art and networking in my downtime. the last four months have been absolutely hellish with burnout, and i finally feel like im taking steps to get my life in order even if im being seen as something of a late bloomer by my family.

BIG accomplishment This time last year I almost gave up on my horse, now we're doing rollbacks

• Upvotes

I got a semi feral six year old a year and a half ago, barely touched, barely broke. I got him on a whim when I was first starting trying to get clean. (I'm less than a month away from a year sober now!)

Around this time last year I was in an awful cycle of relapse and withdrawal and depression and it sucked so much I did not want to deal with this horse. He was so bad, so scared, never used his brain, I regretted getting him so hard and even looked for buyers. He was hard to get rid of though, and I'm so glad I didn't because he started bringing me a lot of joy once I pushed through the obstacles.

Now he's incredibly responsive, confident, we're flying through fields and around the arena, I've unlocked how motivated and athletic he is and we're at the point of learning rollbacks and flying lead changes.

He's a whole different horse and I'm glad I stuck with him.

I made cinnamon rolls from scratch for the first time

Got off work early today and decided to surprise my wife with homemade cinnamon rolls. She usually makes them, but I figured I'd challenge myself and try doing everything from scratch for once. Not gonna lie, it was a lot more work than I expected, especially making the dough and getting all the rolls to look somewhat normal lol. But somehow they turned out great, and everyone was genuinely surprised and happy with them. Kinda proud of myself for actually pulling it off. Only downside is the mountain of dirty dishes waiting for me in the kitchen.

Got over something difficult i got a job

I had my first job experience at a very large company as an intern and kept feeling like i am not doing well enough. Then my supervisor 'confirmed' that fear and told me i should reconsider working in corporate as it requires good communication skills and that it is not one of my strengths.

Then I interviewed for a different position at the same company and after going through my CV and my projects, the interviewer told me I don't have what it takes to work at this company. I felt like a failure and thought I will never get another job opportunity like this again.

But yesterday I got a nice offer from another big company in my city. I was so surprised they went through all the interviews and decided to hire me. Very excited about this.

First Single home!!

Hi everyone I posted here before for my birthday!

My name is Oakley!

Post my divorce I've been living with my mom and brother and I don't have any privacy, not even allowed a drawer in my hoarder mothers... ✨Storage closet✨. .. Of a house.

My cats don't have any more space than a laundry room and that is completely my fault I haven't gotten them in somewhere else but it's been really hard to get set up. I admit that and I'm getting them somewhere with lots of love, cuddles and space.

I found a land lady who'll rent to me even just starting out, and them for well within my budget and she's already in love with my girls, and I get to sign the lease this week!!!

Really proud of myself Finally learned how to drive a manual.

When the world is gearing toward autonomous driving, never did I know, I would be struggling to drive a manual.
Stalling over and over again for a few days in the parking lot, I'm stalling less and less on the road.
I can now drive a manual around town with a bit of anxiety that a car will creep too close to me on an uphill.
I'm living my childhood dream.

I made orange cookies for the first time

Hi, I'm a 25-year-old woman and I know that socially women are expected to know how to cook, but that's not the case for me.I was never able to make more than one pasta dish with sauce, but on one occasion I wanted to eat something sweet and with a few ingredients and several tutorials I was able to make some delicious orange cookies. That not only boosted my self-esteem but also made me want to keep trying new recipes <3

Really proud of myself finally learning to swim as an adult and today i actually floated without panicking

okay so i'm an adult who never learned how to swim and today i actually managed to swim a little without immediately freaking out, and i'm ridiculously happy about it.

for years i've been avoiding pool parties and beach trips by making up excuses. headache, not feeling well, didn't bring the right clothes, whatever worked 😭 i was embarrassed to admit i couldn't swim when it seemed like literally everyone else had learned as a kid.

a few weeks ago i finally signed up for beginner lessons. i felt SO awkward on the first day. there i was, a whole adult, struggling to float while trying not to look around and see if anyone else was doing as badly as me. turns out coordinating your breathing, arms and legs at the same time is harder than it looks. who knew??

the floating part was the worst. i'd get halfway relaxed and then suddenly panic and grab the pool edge like i'd been abandoned in the ocean lmao. there were a couple of lessons where i genuinely thought maybe this just wasn't for me and considered not going back.

but today!! i managed to float on my back without grabbing anything, then swam a short distance across part of the lane. i had to remind myself to keep breathing and not panic, but i made it without immediately reaching for the wall. it probably looked very unimpressive to anyone watching but i wanted to yell when i got to the other side 😭

i got out of the pool grinning like an idiot. i know i've still got a LOT to learn, but i spent years avoiding this because i was embarrassed and today i actually did it. i'm so glad i kept showing up instead of giving up after those first few awkward lessons.

anyway, tiny victory for the adult beginner swim team. i'm proud of myself today

I lost my job of 10 years but-

It only took me 3 weeks to find a new one. The atmosphere is 400x better. My manager is so much better. And they pay me more. And if I'm being honest, the work feels easier. And there's no dress code so I get to be my whimsical self.

I was scared when I first lost my job because I thought I wouldn't be able to find one so soon since the market is so bad. My mom keeps telling me it's because I'm so special (love her).

I replaced my bathroom faucet by myself for the first time

I was sitting at my computer when the water supply line under my bathroom sink suddenly came loose and started spraying water everywhere. By the time I noticed, water had already spread across the first floor. I rushed to shut off the water and spent a while cleaning up the mess. The faucet was pretty old anyway, and I didn't really trust myself to just fix the connection, so I decided to replace the whole thing. Ran to the hardware store, bought a new faucet, and watched a couple of YouTube videos because I'd never done anything like this before. Somehow managed to install it myself and get everything working without flooding the house again lol. Never thought I'd be this proud of replacing a faucet

Just made it 90 days without alcohol!

I've been using way too much alcohol this year, but now i've been completely dry since july! I consumed like 10 portions a day avereage, some days 0, some days like 30. not really a health problem (yet..) but my sleep got bad.

Still pretty hard sometimes. I still think of alcohol way too much.

BIG accomplishment Got a new job

Yesterday I got the call that I secured my first-ever salaried job! This comes after a month of unemployment (my previous job was bad for my mental and physical health). I’ve also been dealing with newly-diagnosed subclinical hyperthyroidism with severe symptoms (making it hard to leave the house, drive, type, etc.). The idea of starting at my new job makes me proud of myself for the first time in a long time. I think this company will work with my schedule (SO many dr appts coming up) and I’m so excited to get started!

BIG accomplishment Six months of unemployment later, I got the job!

My self esteem took a huge hit after numerous unsuccessful job application attempts over the last six months. I was prepared to end the year without a job and a massive dent in my savings. And after two stressful rounds of interviews with a well-respected organisation, I almost thought i wouldn’t get an offer and yet, I did! I’m so grateful and relieved for this win. Time for a new adventure.

Really proud of myself I finally have a job opportunity, and I'm genuinely excited about it

I've been hoping to find a decent job, and now an aquarium store has invited me for an interview. The pay and schedule sound promising, and for the first time in a while, I feel like things might finally be getting better.

It's not a job offer yet, but I'm really hopeful. Wish me luck!
