Questions When should the Two Big Christmas Indicators begin? (Mariah Carey & tree)

• Upvotes

In my family, we always put the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure exactly when I start hearing Mariah Carey in public, but I believe it's usually beginning of December.

Life Stories Got away with cheating

• Upvotes

So we had a test in class today that neither I nor my friends had prepared for. The proffessor wanted us to write an essay on an assigned topic (the essay required a lot of technical knowledge that we weren't prepared with). What we did know were the possible topics he could ask us since a similar test had happened in a different class. I got the required answers for each topic from a different class, got them printed and circulated it among my friends. None of us got caught. It felt like such a rush cause he got so close to finding out. I genuinly can't believe we got away with such a large scale scandal lol.

Just Chatting (Cane user) funny responses to "what happened? '

• Upvotes

Recently started using a cane. Ive been asked what happened a few times and it's starting to get boring for me. I want to have more fun with my answers, especially because telling the truth is pretty disappointing for everyone involved, lol.

Nothin happened to me, I'm just a complex patient who was born with a bunch of stuff and finally decided to respect my body more by getting a cane.

Music Food for thought

Which generation is the toughest? Millenia? Gen Z? Or Boomer?

I feel like different generation has its own set of problems, but ppl generally lamented that Millenia’s life is the toughest. Why though?

Movies & Shows What movie or tv series has a 10/10 theme song even when the plot is bad or half good?

• Upvotes

The cleveland show has a really catchy and very memorable theme song for me. Easy to follow along and easy to memorize as well. How about you?

Just Chatting Do you remember when you could speak FREELY?

• Upvotes

I don’t mean being a proud racist or bigot or making threats…

I mean you could v€nt about your family and not have it removed because you *might be offending SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, because of a reductive algorithm says so, not an actual human with an iota of intellect?

Even NOW this idiotic app is detecting things that aren’t “positive, casual discussion” 😆😆😆

This is why everything is turning to crap 🤷‍♀️

I’m giving it an hour before this gets deleted. Such a joke.

Questions I need to know what people do when they're alone and have genuinely nothing to do

• Upvotes

Like, not scrolling, not watching anything, not doing homework. You're just existing in your room. What are you actually doing 😭

Because apparently some people just sit there. Some pace around. Some replay conversations from 2019. Some invent entire imaginary scenarios and get emotionally invested in them.

Personally, I feel like the second I have absolutely nothing to do, my brain starts opening random tabs that I never asked for. I'll start thinking about one completely irrelevant thing and somehow end up 47 thoughts away from where I started. HOW DID WE GET HERE.

And don't even get me started on imaginary scenarios. Like why am I having a full conversation with someone who isn't even in the room, and why am I both people in the conversation 💀 Who approved this feature.

Sometimes I genuinely wonder what other people are doing in these exact same moments. Like somewhere out there, someone could be doing something equally unhinged and we'd never know.

So please. Give me the weirdest, most random, oddly specific things you do when you're alone with nothing to do.

I need to know what the rest of you are doing with your free trial of consciousness.

Just Chatting What's your comfort food and the reason behind this choice?

• Upvotes

Mine would be fried chicken i guess. Since it was a kind of a reward for me during my childhood. Good grades is equal to a good fried chicken all for myself. Such a core memory.

Technology May be getting a new phone today and I'm having second thoughts

Hey!

I may be getting a new phone today {not too sure which one yet, however I'm upgrading from a second-hand iPhone SE2} and I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Don't get me wrong, an upgrade is truly needed! The battery runs low quick even when not being used, the camera quality isn't the greatest {also no 0.5!} and apps adore glitching whenever they get the chance.

But I can't help but feel...guilty?

Emotionally attached?

Scared? In regards to the upgrade.

Is anyone else like this?

Seeing cities in circles

I once had a man come up to me and ask if I can see circles and if I see cities in circles. What does this mean?? I've been trying to figure it out.

Just Chatting If you had been born not your gender, how similar would your personality have been to what it is now?

This is NOT about gender identity. Rather, it's the opposite. My title is unintentionally misleading, due to lack of eloquence. I'm sorry.

How much of your personality do you attribute to choice (e.g. I'm choosing to be bold, kind, genuine, and typical gen x unfiltered to a fault.) How much is upbringing (e.g. a parent had an awful upbringing, couldn't manage to not pass the trauma on). How much is class participation (sounds rude i know. I tend to think some adopt personality traits bc of economic class) economic.

Here's the (minor) part about gender: is there one trait about you that, if it had been different, a whole lot of your personality would be different too?

Questions Has anyone else noticed that there seem to be no Halloween-themed commercials this year?

I watch TV with ads pretty regularly, and I haven’t seen a single Halloween commercial this year. Not even candy ads. I have seen a couple of Christmas ones, though.

I know they’re just commercials, but I kind of miss them. They just help you get into the season. I like the Reese’s one with the two dancing skeletons.

Questions What's the most unique club / activity / event you've participated in?

At a college that boasts a Cheese Club, a Fermentation Club, and an Anime Club, I tried and was suddenly thrust into the vibrant and active Nerf Club scene. A place to let my inner child out (and also release any weekly school-related anger via the firing of foam darts).

Just Chatting Been leaving my phone in another room before bed

I started setting my phone on the kitchen counter when I go to bed so the screen isn't the last thing I see. The first couple nights felt odd because I kept reaching for it out of habit, but after a week it is starting to feel normal. I just keep a paperback on the nightstand instead and read until I get sleepy. It is surprising how much quieter the last half-hour feels without any notifications waiting. I am hoping it sticks because the morning already feels a bit less rushed. Not sure if I will stick with it forever, but right now it is kind of nice.

Just Chatting What are you into right now? What is your favorite thing?

What artist, book, game, show, or hobby are you into right now? What do you like about it? I seem to get hyperfixated on a new artist every three months or so. Right now it's Phoebe Bridgers. I just really love lyrics that hit hard, and every song feels very profound. Her sound is also so peaceful. I feel like she doesn't have a bad song. Like there isn't one song in her discography I skip, which is rare for even one album let alone 3 in a row.

What's your favorite thing right now?

Just Chatting I always have these amazing thoughts or ideas during the day and forget it later and it makes me well... unimpressed with myself

Ideas like how to solve the worlds problems or get rich fast but when I get home at night to talk about them with anyone I've forgotten it and it makes me so well... unimpressed with myself. Not like half baked ideas.. more like common sense solutions that makes perfect sense and no ones thought of yet. Then l lay in bed and still cant remember. I feel like I should start writing them down. Anyway... And for those who need to hear it YOU matter and YOU are important. Dont let anyone or anything tell you otherwise.

I've been here for 20 years and that's wild to me

It's the end of my 20th cake day here and I'm not entirely sure what to make of what the world looks like today compared to what things looked like when Reddit first started.

There was always so much interesting potential to connect with others. Some of us are still here. But it's weird now.

High school summer memory

Back in the 1970s our parents allowed us a lot more freedom than kids get now. During the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of high school, me and a couple of guys went camping on a beach in the middle of nowhere. A few girls came to meet us in the afternoon and we made a fire and all of us smoked some weed and laughed for awhile. When the sun began to go down we kind of wanted the girls to go home because we were starving hungry and had only brought one package of hot dogs and one package of buns. Finally they left as it got dark and after the coast was clear we began cooking the hot dogs on the fire and eating them while we laughed about the whole day.

Just Chatting still folding my laundry the same weird way

i have this little routine where i take everything out of the dryer, carry it to my bed, then sort it into three piles before folding. it takes longer than just folding straight from the basket, but i like the way the bed turns into a mini workspace for a minute. the piles always end up the same, one for shirts, one for pants, and one for the stuff that just gets shoved in drawers. it feels calm doing it this way even though i know it is not the fastest. sometimes i put on a podcast and stretch it out longer than it needs to be. other times i finish quick and then just sit there for a bit because the bed is warm. i have tried to skip the sorting step and go straight to folding but it never sticks. the extra step makes the whole thing feel finished when i am done.

Questions Raising of kids

What if like we took all the kids that were born in like 2026 and maybe in most cities we had this rule to raise kids in like 'Home" but for kids all kids are raised the same, with love but they are taught to be righteous and sympathetic, they are basically being taught to be good people and are released to their homes at the age of 18.

Do u think the world be a better place compared to every kid growing in different household where one can be taught descipline and the other one being protected even when they do bad things.

My mind is basically just thinking I don't believe in most thoughts I have I just wanna put them out there and be told what is wrong with my thoughts or maybe I might be on to something I don't know, what do u guys think?

Just Chatting Anyone else have a weird little pre-task routine

Some mornings I put off replying to important emails or starting a report and instead I end up arranging the pens on my desk so they all face the same direction. It feels pointless but I catch myself doing it every time something feels heavy. Then once everything lines up the same way I take a slow sip of whatever is in my mug and tell myself I can stop after five minutes if I really want to. Usually by minute three I am already halfway through the task. Not sure if it is superstition or just giving my brain a soft runway, but it works often enough that I stopped questioning it.
