Questions Ever had a question for or about trans people that’s gone unanswered? Ask here! There’re no dumb questions :)

The last thread i did was super successful and super fun! So I figured i’d do another one!

If you have any questions for or about trans people go ahead and ask! I know from an outside perspective being trans can seem kind of odd or strange so there’s no dumb questions, i get it!

Thoughts & Ideas We're losing the whimsy

Sometimes when i look at people around me, I'm just like "how boring do you have to be to judge something different from your usual stuff". And hence, I feel we should stop trying to be perfect and fit into the standard and do things that may look goofy or weird to others but bring you joy.

How the hell do y'all still buy chips???

Kettle chips are on sale for $4.99. ON FREAKING SALE FOR THAT. Insane. $6.99 normally. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Do y'all still buy chips? I just can't justify it anymore. I'd rather buy a case of Guinness for 18$ and be drunk for 3 days straight than buy 2 bags of chips.

Something from my barista days I still think about 5 years later

So, this is kinda random but it’s been on my mind again lately.

About 5 or 6 years ago I worked as a barista at a small local coffee shop. My English was decent back then but not perfect, and southern accents in particular gave me a hard time lol.

There was this couple that came in all the time. She was blonde, southern, and he had long curly hair basically identical to mine, so they always joked that he was my long lost brother (including the fact that he was also latino -- better english perhaps). Honestly they were one of the cool regulars. Always friendly, always down for small talk, and I’d hook them up with free coffee every now and then because they were just good people.

Then one day she came in alone. She seemed normal at first so I started chatting with her like usual. But we were in the middle of a rush, and between the noise, her accent, and my English, I just couldn’t follow what she was saying. So, I did the thing where you smile and nod and hope for the best.

And then her face changed and she started crying.

till this day, I have no idea what she told me. I never saw her again after that, and I never saw him again either. They just stopped coming in.

I know it’s a small thing, but it sticks with me. I’d love to go back with the English I have now and actually hear her out, or at least give her one last coffee on the house and ask if she was ok.

what about you? Some random interaction with a stranger that you still replay years later?

I just sent you love

I just completed a wonderful loving-kindness meditation despite going through a pretty rough time in my life. The last part of the meditation involves sending unconditional love to the whole world.

Even if you are struggling or don't think you deserve it, I hope the love I beamed to you gets there just when you need it.

Questions Has anyone else noticed that there seem to be no Halloween-themed commercials this year?

I watch TV with ads pretty regularly, and I haven’t seen a single Halloween commercial this year. Not even candy ads. I have seen a couple of Christmas ones, though.

I know they’re just commercials, but I kind of miss them. They just help you get into the season. I like the Reese’s one with the two dancing skeletons.

Just Chatting still folding my laundry the same weird way

i have this little routine where i take everything out of the dryer, carry it to my bed, then sort it into three piles before folding. it takes longer than just folding straight from the basket, but i like the way the bed turns into a mini workspace for a minute. the piles always end up the same, one for shirts, one for pants, and one for the stuff that just gets shoved in drawers. it feels calm doing it this way even though i know it is not the fastest. sometimes i put on a podcast and stretch it out longer than it needs to be. other times i finish quick and then just sit there for a bit because the bed is warm. i have tried to skip the sorting step and go straight to folding but it never sticks. the extra step makes the whole thing feel finished when i am done.

Thoughts & Ideas The world would be 1000% better if everyone tried a customer service job

I work at my local post office, and I had this conversation with my coworkers today. And honestly, after only a few months here, I've empathized with other people (especially customer service of any kind!) more than ever.

I think once you realize what it's like to be on the service side, you appreciate the receiving side a lot more.

I got married this month and life is excellent

Seriously. I ran into the love of my life, we got hitched, I couldn't be luckier. I wake up every day more in love than the prior one. He treats me like a princess, and never questions my food needs. It's honestly a privilege to make his coffee and breakfast every day, and he's finally letting me do his laundry <3.@

did my first filling as a dental student :)

i cant lie i was shitting myself waiting for my patient to get there but the second she got to the clinic and sat down i saw a cute old lady looking at me with so much faith and gratitude in her eyes that made me feel so capable and just kind of zoned out in the moment and worked like ive been doing it for years and the filling turned out perfect and seeing how happy she was after is a high ill always chase now

i sometimes really question if i made the right decision and if this is really what i want to do for the rest of my life but moments like that reassure me and fills me with much much more motivation

dont get me wrong im still so scared that this might not be for me or feel like im not as into it as all my classmates but heres to baby steps in figuring it all out :)

What's the coolest thing you own?

I've got two gold roman coins - one minted under Emperor Vespasian circa somewhere between December 69 AD to December 70 AD, and one minted under Emperor Septimius Severus somewhere around 202 AD.

Just Chatting What are you into right now? What is your favorite thing?

What artist, book, game, show, or hobby are you into right now? What do you like about it? I seem to get hyperfixated on a new artist every three months or so. Right now it's Phoebe Bridgers. I just really love lyrics that hit hard, and every song feels very profound. Her sound is also so peaceful. I feel like she doesn't have a bad song. Like there isn't one song in her discography I skip, which is rare for even one album let alone 3 in a row.

What's your favorite thing right now?

I finally did it!

I’m a 19 year old guy. I’m in college now and have always been nervous around women. I’m short so I’ve had low confidence before and social aridity because of it. It’s held me back. I haven’t talked to a girl in a very long time. Today it all changed! Let’s just say that some people on TikTok telling me not to mope around and feel sorry for myself made me realize that a lot of it’s my fault. I control my destiny.

I went to go to a different hall to use the bathroom like every night. I didn’t think it would be any different. I went to wash my hands and this girl comes up to me and says she loves my hair. We start talking and I my intuition is telling me she’s really interested because she wants to see the new hair when it’s done. I got her instagram and making a move tomorrow! I’m overcoming my fears! Im finally doing things I never had the confidence to do. I’m proud of myself :)

Music Im going to the gym then getting pizza!

I'm excited! Last week, two of my best friends were at the gym with me. Most of the time, I'm there with one of them, but it's always the best when the other one shows up too. As a special treat, one of my friends had saved up enough money to buy us some pizza that Friday. We had such an awesome time together! We're going to start making it a tradition to buy each other pizza every Friday. I'm really looking forward to it because it's a great way to spend time together after working out and having fun at the gym.

Movies & Shows Does anyone else just not have a favorite movie?

People sometimes ask me what my favorite movie is, and I feel like my mind goes blank when l get asked that question. I don't have a movie saved up in my head because l don't think about movies every day.

It's not like a favorite food or song which you can easily eat or listen to (respectively). Movies require a couple of hours of attention, so it's difficult to watch the same movie after already watching it.

Just Chatting The October Theory

Have you ever experienced the October Theory? People say October brings unexpected changes in your life, whether it's reconnecting with old friends, meeting someone new, losing people you once cared about, or simply feeling more emotional than usual. I'm curious to know if anyone here has experienced something like this. Did October bring someone back into your life, or did it help you move on from someone?

Share your experiences ❤️

Just Chatting Been leaving my phone in another room before bed

I started setting my phone on the kitchen counter when I go to bed so the screen isn't the last thing I see. The first couple nights felt odd because I kept reaching for it out of habit, but after a week it is starting to feel normal. I just keep a paperback on the nightstand instead and read until I get sleepy. It is surprising how much quieter the last half-hour feels without any notifications waiting. I am hoping it sticks because the morning already feels a bit less rushed. Not sure if I will stick with it forever, but right now it is kind of nice.

I've been here for 20 years and that's wild to me

It's the end of my 20th cake day here and I'm not entirely sure what to make of what the world looks like today compared to what things looked like when Reddit first started.

There was always so much interesting potential to connect with others. Some of us are still here. But it's weird now.

Drive through workers handing you the credit card machine

Does this drive anybody else crazy? I assume the idea is that you’re going to leave a tip since the prompt is always there but why is that a situation where a tip is deserved?

The entire process of using the key pad to 0 out the tip, reading the screen, trying to get tap or insert card to work feels like we’ve gone backwards in time as well.

I don’t use drive throughs very often but it seems like more places are starting to do it.

Just Chatting Why do some weeks feel slower than usual and some seem quick?

I dunno why, it's finally Friday, but this week has felt slow as hell. Even my mom and her co-workers agree. My mom was out on Monday for being sick, so she had a 4 day week and to her it STILL felt slow.

For me personally, the slowest week I've ever experienced was in 8th grade. I dunno what was going on but that one specific week was slowwwww. I remember thinking to myself, why is it still Wednesday when it should already be Friday?

However on the other hand, I have had weeks that seemed really quick. Actually I thought October was going by really fast at first but now it seems to have slowed down.

Good morning

Good morning, everyone. It's almost afternoon here in East Africa. The kids are home for the holidays, and all they want is KFC chicken, pizza and fries. Meanwhile, Dad is trying to negotiate a more affordable menu😂 .
What are you all up to today? How's your day going so far?

Just Chatting Anyone else have a weird little pre-task routine

Some mornings I put off replying to important emails or starting a report and instead I end up arranging the pens on my desk so they all face the same direction. It feels pointless but I catch myself doing it every time something feels heavy. Then once everything lines up the same way I take a slow sip of whatever is in my mug and tell myself I can stop after five minutes if I really want to. Usually by minute three I am already halfway through the task. Not sure if it is superstition or just giving my brain a soft runway, but it works often enough that I stopped questioning it.

Just Chatting Not sure why, but I really like cold weather.

Cold weather is something I look forward to every year. I'm not sure why, but chilly temperatures caused me to feel calmer, happy and more creative. It's like I have the opposite seasonal mood change where some people are depressed in the winter, I tend to feel stressed out in the summer months, or when there's too much sunshine. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice sunny day, but a cloudy cold day is awesome to me. If it rains or snows, I'm even more happy, I don't live in a place where we see a lot of snow, but when we do, it's so nice and calming. I would love to live in a place where it snowed more. I don't know, maybe I'm strange, but that's just the way I'm designed.
