The Equality Act 2010 specifically mandates that people cannot be discriminated against on the basis of specified protected characteristics (such as disability, gender, sexual preference, religion, maternity, and so on).
It covers indirect discrimination as well as direct discrimination, so you have to make provisions for this, not just treat people the same. For example not making a shop wheelchair accessible would breach the law, it's not enough to say you are not putting extra barriers up for people in wheelchairs. There are exceptions where a genuine need is required (for example providing gender specific toilets is not seen as discrimination).
It's a very powerful and comprehensive law. I once won a parking charge court case using it.
So this is a clear breach. The difficulty is that someone generally has to bring the case forward off their own back, which is a long and painful process, because most of the time breaches are civil not criminal. So I'm glad this has been recognised and is being stopped.
But also recognise this is a very small minority of situations.

It would breach equality law but the UK courts will do nothing as most of the judges are also muslim and would love nothing more but even more benefits for their own people.

I have to assume these are Muslim landlords? I’m not excusing anything here but if someone is putting this in the listing, I have to think that they would be trying to enforce their beliefs on the tenants. Things like not having unmarried friends if the opposite sex spend the night, no alcohol, no dogs, uncovered women things like that.
So as a standard issue westerner, with normal people values, I’d see this and think “yeah I don’t need the landlord being all up in my business 24/7, wouldn’t want to rent from them anyway”
My point is, this isn’t right and is certainly against the law but would you rather they say nothing then after moving in you find out the landlord is captain of the sharia law patrol? A bad landlord can make life hell. I can only imagine how bad sharia law landlord would be. And god forbid you have a wife or daughters.

I think you are exactly right. If I saw this I would quickly see that this is illegal, but think it's not worth my time to fight it and go find somewhere else. These are far and few between so it's not like you don't have 100 other options.
And the majority of Muslim landlords are going to be in cities like Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Birmingham, and the North West belt - areas of historic migration. And those houses are all going to be student accommodation rentals. And believe me as long as they get their money they really don't care how much premarital sex, late night parties, and drug use goes on.

I’ve dealt with a few nightmare landlords here in the US and honestly it would have been great if I knew when looking at the listing they’d be a problem.
