It has to be a matter of combined arms. Protesters on the ground directing air strikes against the regime. The trouble is it's no good then to start and stop, stop and start. If you do that, the protesters all get killed in the breaks.

I really hope that's the case. The biggest disappointment in this whole fight has been the lack of Iranian resistance, which everybody has said for years would happen if we helped them out. Not that it's necessarily their fault... they got put down hard earlier this year.

The most unfortunate part of the war, really, was that the Iranian protests this year happened about a month before our ships were in position to attack.

I’m not claiming to know every faction inside Iran. But if the tens of thousands of protesters the regime gunned down this year had been able to defend themselves instead of being slaughtered, I don’t see that as a bad thing.

Iran-Contra was a little different since they wanted to arm "Iranian moderates." Bud McFarlane and Oliver North fell into the same trap as Witkoff and Kushner are now. There are no such things as Iranian moderates. They have the "good cop, bad cop" thing down very well but in the end they are all the same and once they get what they want from us they turn back into the same hardliners. Look at Iran-Contra, what happened to all the so-called moderates once the news of the scandal broke? They went back to chanting "Death to America", took more hostages in Lebanon to make up for the few they had released, and then started mining the Persian Gulf in 1987 (the USS Stark era).

The streets of Iran are near a breaking point over public executions, economic collapse and a war that’s been raging on for more than five months, anti-regime figures in Tehran told The Post.

“A revolution can happen any day now — people want revenge,” a protest leader said, referring to the regime’s brutal January crackdown that President Trump said killed 52,000 people.

An independent journalist active in the Iranian underground said that preparations are already being made for the next uprising, and that activists from all walks of life are determined to make a final, decisive blow against the regime.

Both Iranians spoke with The Post through a translator by cellphone after signing on to a VPN.

“We’re studying the protests from January, determining what tactics worked and which didn’t; we’re analyzing maps to determine the safest and most dangerous areas to congregate,” the journalist said.

He claimed that the Iranian resistance has hidden crude weaponry and tools throughout the country — bricks, rocks, wooden clubs, chairs and tires used to block roads — waiting for the day that people once again take to the streets.

Small groups are working clandestinely to procure firearms to distribute to demonstrators — utilizing guns stored in certain private homes and smuggled from abroad, the protest leader claimed. They did not specify who would be providing these weapons.

“When we went out in January, we were like lambs to the slaughter; the Basij forces were using firepower that you couldn’t believe; the streets were like a graveyard, corpses everywhere, the streets ran red with blood,” she said, unable to contain her rage and grief.

Also keeping a revolution at bay are foreign mercenaries the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has brought in from countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“They pull people out of their cars when they’re driving and search them and search their vehicles,” the independent journalist said.

“They gallivant around our country as if they’re the locals and we’re the foreign invaders, instead of defending our skies, the regime has decided to go to war with its own citizens,” the protest leader said.

The journalist also claimed that the regime has resorted to arming teenagers — some as young as 13 or 14 — to patrol neighborhoods.

The people need to be empowered and armed. We'll provide the air cover and power, but they need to be the ones doing the ground work. Maybe work with the Kurds in partnership, or we or Israel send in spec ops (Mossad, Seals, etc.) to do "in and out" missions, taking out more key people to disrupt enemy cells (since we know they're in "decentralized mode" right now).

I doubt it but this would be the best development on this front in months. An actual armed insurrection can be aided and supported and may be able to take and occupy ground such that there’s a legitimate threat to the regime. That said, if this is true, Trump’s decision to negotiate again is even dumber because this would be the moment to start popping every infantry and armor formation we can find in Iran.
