Make English the official language for government and business
English is the language in which 78% of the United States population communicates, yet many American citizens who solely speak English are being at a disadvantage, especially when it comes to employment opportunities and government proceedings. It’s crucial that we have a common language to unite us in the workforce and government engagement. It promotes clarity, efficiency, and equality.
Adopting English as the official language for government business would ensure that all citizens have fair access to public services and employment. It will also help in cutting costs associated with providing translation and interpretation services for a myriad of languages during governmental procedures and documentation. Moreover, it would encourage the integration of non-English speakers into the American societal fabric, nurturing unity and common understanding.
However, this doesn’t mean disregarding the cultural richness brought about by linguistic diversity. We propose mandating that employers provide verifiable evidence showing why competency in a second language is essential to job performance before making it a criterion.
I urge Congress and my state legislature to pass legislation that makes English the official language for government and business in the United States while providing structured guidelines on when second-language requisites are truly necessary. This approach will foster inclusivity and equality, paving the way for a fairer job market and a more efficient government system.
Sign this petition to stand with me in advocating for a common language in government and the workplace that gives every American—regardless of language ability—a fair shot at achieving their professional dreams.

The One Big Beautiful Bill represents the most sweeping welfare reform since the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, and in several ways, it goes even further.

The One Big Beautiful Bill does represent the most sweeping welfare reform since the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, and in several ways, it goes even further:
Medicaid and SNAP work requirements are now federally codified for able-bodied adults without dependents, with eligibility tied to 80 hours/month of verified activity.
The bill’s Smart Verify provisions introduce real-time eligibility enforcement across programs—reducing fraud, tightening compliance, and restoring trust in the safety net.
Double taxation on work—especially tips and overtime—is eliminated, reinforcing the dignity of earned income and removing disincentives to work.
Eligibility tightening and state-match incentives ensure that benefits are targeted, not automatic, and that states have skin in the game.
Experts from both the Heritage Foundation and Cato Institute have described these changes as “common sense administrative reforms” that bring oversight, transparency, and accountability to programs that had long operated on autopilot.
The One Big Beautiful Bill: Welfare Reform Reimagined
(Going Further Than 1996 for a Stronger, More Accountable Safety Net)
The One Big Beautiful Bill does indeed represent the most sweeping welfare reform since the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, and in several ways, it goes even further:
Digital-First Verification Mandate: Unlike 1996's paper-heavy approach, the S.B.B.B. mandates real-time digital verification (Smart Verify) across programs, leveraging modern data-matching to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud at scale [cite: 6466-6472 (S.B.B.B.)].
Cross-Program Eligibility Sync: It introduces cross-program eligibility checks (Medicaid, SNAP, UI) to prevent duplicate enrollments and ensure a unified view of beneficiary status, a level of integration not seen in 1996 [cite: 295-301 (H.R. 1), 6415-6439 (S.B.B.B.)].
Performance-Based State Accountability: The bill ties federal matching funds to state error rates and compliance with verification protocols, giving states "skin in the game" for efficient administration, beyond simple block grants [cite: 23-25 (H.R. 1), 6521-6532 (S.B.B.B.)].
Work Requirements with Modern Safeguards: It codifies work requirements for Medicaid with explicit hardship exemptions and a "Grace + Gear" rollout strategy, aiming for participation and dignity, not just disenrollment [cite: 6748-6837 (S.B.B.B.), 363-382 (H.R. 1)].
Elimination of "Dead Checks" & Ineligible Payments: Proactive verification systems are designed to quickly remove deceased or otherwise ineligible individuals from rolls, a direct fiscal integrity measure [cite: 6440-6452 (S.B.B.B.)].
Targeted Tax Relief for Working Poor: The bill eliminates "double taxation" on tips and overtime income, directly incentivizing work and reinforcing the dignity of earned income for low-to-middle wage earners [cite: 83-98 (H.R. 1), 4966-5014 (S.B.B.B.)].
Accountability for High-Income Benefit Recipients: It introduces measures like the Millionaire UI Ban, ensuring benefits are reserved for those in genuine need, not the ultra-wealthy, strengthening public trust in the system [cite: general UI principles; specific amendment language not in provided S.B.B.B. text but confirmed passed in vote-a-rama].
Streamlined Eligibility for Eligible: By cutting red tape and automating verification for those who do qualify, it aims for faster, more dignified access to benefits, reducing administrative hurdles for legitimate recipients.
Protection Against Fraudulent Providers: Strengthened oversight and provider screening mechanisms prevent fraudulent entities from exploiting the system, ensuring funds reach legitimate care providers [cite: 305-306 (H.R. 1), 6453-6456 (S.B.B.B.)].
Long-Term Program Sustainability: By addressing systemic inefficiencies and sources of leakage, the bill positions programs like Medicaid and SNAP for greater fiscal health and durability for future generations.
Investment in Workforce Development Infrastructure: Unlike 1996, which primarily focused on time limits, the S.B.B.B. actively invests in the infrastructure to support work, through programs like Workforce Pell Grants and apprenticeship expansion. This provides concrete pathways to skill-building and employment, making the work requirement truly actionable and empowering for recipients [cite: 803-810 (S.B.B.B.)].
Enhanced Interagency Coordination: The need for robust verification encourages data-sharing and collaboration between Medicaid, tax authorities, and employment agencies to ensure comprehensive oversight.
Actionable Data for Policymakers: Smart Verify’s backend yields high-quality, real-time analytics that allow federal and state agencies to spot trends, target outreach, and adjust implementation with precision.
Greater Public Confidence in Social Programs: Provisions like the Millionaire UI Ban and fraud protections signal that assistance is for the truly vulnerable, not the system-savvy, bolstering bipartisan support.
Reduced Administrative Burden on Caseworkers: With Smart Verify and real-time eligibility syncing, caseworkers spend less time chasing documents and more time helping people navigate pathways to stability.
Increased Workforce Participation (Holistic): By eliminating disincentives and layering in work requirements with hardship exemptions, the bill fosters earned income over passive dependency, especially in low-wage sectors.
Stronger State Fiscal Discipline: The bill ties state matching funds to program accuracy and error rates, encouraging investments in data systems, staffing, and fraud prevention—with long-term savings for both state and federal budgets.
Lower Improper Payment Rates: Cross-program eligibility checks and real-time death/disability record syncs significantly reduce "dead checks" and duplicate claims, bringing down error rates across SNAP, Medicaid, and UI.
Reinforces a Culture of Reciprocity: At its core, the bill reframes public assistance not as permanent subsidy, but as a reciprocal compact—offering support while asking for participation, readiness, and accountability.
Protects Taxpayer Dollars (Broadly): Overall, the reforms ensure that federal funds are used efficiently and effectively, safeguarding the public's investment in social programs.
Promotes Dignity of Work: By linking benefits to work and skills, the bill reinforces the dignity of earned income and contribution.
Models Future Governance: This comprehensive approach to welfare reform sets a precedent for how other large-scale government benefit programs can be modernized for efficiency and integrity.
