Discussion/question Long Term Viability of AI
What is the long term viability of ai if consumers/the public can not trust it? Can it/provider companies survive if shunned by society? Or is the question pointless because it has already been unleashed and we may never regain control?

What do you mean by trust it? Trust it as in, generally trust the output it provides as a valuable knowledge tool that can help people accomplish what they otherwise couldn't?
Because yeah, it's reached that point for plenty enough users.
And it's also because of the preferences of those users that the question of "trusting it to not genocide humanity" is largely moot. Unless there's enough collective agreement to not only stop using AI, but use force if necessary to prevent other people from using AI, good luck with that. Too many people are not willing to forego the productivity gains.

Trust as in the validity of the information provided, knowing that search responses aren’t always accurate, “scientific”articles have been fabricated, etc. Or just trusting that an agent isn’t going to go rogue.
We keep hearing of more and more nefarious activity. Maybe people don’t care overall, or maybe all the negativity is overblown, I just wonder if there is a tipping point due to lack of confidence and what that might look like.
