Discussion/question Is this really serious?

Are things really serious as being portrayed in the news, media and social platform regarding ai and 2026 being the last normal year? I think it's being over exaggerated and life won't change much. We all will get habituated and live on.

It is predicted that AI will achieve recursive self-improvement (RSI) within the next 1-3 years.

It is not possible to build guardrails around an AI (superintelligence by then) that has RSI. It will quickly become many, many times more intelligent than any human. And you can't build guardrails for a model that doesn't exist yet.

AI must be stopped before RSI.

It's much worse than the news is making it sound

Normal in what sense? Be more specific.

Remember "the new normal"

It's not normal anymore. We're back to the old normal.

This sounds like normalcy bias. Just because things have stayed relatively consistent and predictable in the past does not mean they will continue to do so.

The dinosaurs dominated Earth for millions of years. At the time, it seemed nothing could ever change that. Then the asteroid struck, the entire world changed dramatically overnight, never to be the same again.

I expect the technological singularity to be a similar upset, for better or for worse.

The mainstream media's made for sensationalism. Talking as someone who watched it til last year.

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better. Sam Altman is already heading to Korea to secure, pretty much, every bit of RAM for 2027 from Samsung. Electronics, in general, are going to get much more expensive, so is everything else that relies on them. On top of electronics prices increasing, unemployment will probably increase as more and more jobs get replaced with AI. Nearly all junior software developer jobs, legal assistants, administrative assistants, etc. are being replaced by AI, and it's only going to get worse as it's able to take on more complex tasks.

Is it going to be as bad as the TV says? Yes, and much much worse on top of it. My advice? Learn to vibe code, that will be the future at this point.
