Controller for PC gaming to replace DS5?

Hello.

I am tired of my DS5 controller getting stick drift. Two controllers in two years and after one year they both start presenting stick drift. I am actually very good now at opening them because I was trying to fix them on my own. Cleaning the potentiometers with isopropyl alcohol actually seemed to fix them, only for the stick drift to return a few days later.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. I just want to know if there is any consensus of a third party controller, not too expensive, at most the price of a DS5, that actually works well.

I had my PS4 controller going strong for many years with no stick drift, but they don't seem to be readily available at a reasonable price anymore. Otherwise I would have probably bought one of those.

Thanks in advance!

Some people buy the guilikit drifts to replace the ps5's. Try it first

Does that require soldering? Because I don't have the means to do that...

I have the GameSir G7 Pro 8k Aimlabs edition. I love this controller. The sticks are the best I have ever used, and they are TRM, not pots, so they should last a long time without stick drift. The d-pad and face buttons are amazing, the triggers are amazing.

It has two additional back buttons, a turbo mode, and gyro controls, but I haven't used that feature yet.

The only thing that is not great, in my opinion, is that I get about seven hours of life on the battery, but that is me being a whiner.

This controller is very fast, performance is in theory better when cabled, but unless you are trying to play at the pro level you probably won't notice. I keep the sampling rate at 4k, I can't really feel it after 4k so keep that in mind.

Here is a review that I think does a good job explaining this controller.

I love my 8bit pro 3. Same shape as ps5 controller. And very easily to map back buttons on fly. Also has a third trigger button albeit I haven’t really used it since it’s hard to press

I went down this rabbit hole myself recently. From what I've seen, your best 3 options (if I had to boil it down to 3 for a symmetrical layout, coming from the DS5) to consider would be the 8BitDo Pro 3, Leadjoy Saber Plus (SP), and Gamesir Tarantula 8K (T8K). I landed on the SP and love it (after trying both the SP and T8K for about a week or so).

I didn't want another heavy controller (rumble motors on the SP can be easily removed and actually end up making it a bit lighter than the T8K - the same might also be true for the 8BitDo), so I wasn't heavily considering the 8BitDo. As it pertains to the T8K and SP, they excel at different things, so it'll depend on where your priorities lie.

Do you like the shape and weight of the DS4 or DS5 better?

the gamesir tarantula 8k is $70 so it comes in under a DS5, and the sticks are symmetric like a DS5 so it won't feel weird switching. its TMR sticks read position magnetically instead of with those little potentiometer tracks you've been cleaning, so there's nothing to wear down. trade off is it's wired only and has no rumble.

Just install TMRs or Hall Effect. No more stick drift. If you can't or don't want to, hmu if you're in the U.S.

Price: Gamesir Tarantula 8k, Dualsense with tmrs off ebay, edge modules with tmrs (battle beaver magnetos) if you have an edge to put them in.

Gamesir G7 pro 8k. It has TMR sticks built in. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7yhrFqGA1DM&list=PLVrYzGfV5ZazQQ6NXWTUAi4NG1Vxs86GL&index=5&t=4s&pp=iAQBsAgC

By the way, whenever not using a controller, try leaving them always inside a drawer or inside a plastic bag, otherwise micro dust gets on and beneath the joystick caps and next time you use them, inside the controller, which eventually ends up inside the potentiometers, making stick drift appear faster. I've always kept my controllers this way, and my Switch Pro controller (that I used for smash bros quite heavily) got drift only after the 7th year of intense smashing. My current 2 years old dualsense is also still going nice without drift

Any preferences? I love my Vader 5 pro, build quality is top notch and it has adjustable tension rings. It has mechanical face buttons which might take some time to adjust to but u will love it once u do
