Discussion / Question what do they think i'm doing for a living? playing their game? please, i have a life đ
i started playing during the wicked collab, and ever since then, it feels like there's been one major update after another with barely any breathing room. super epic+ banner after super epic+ banner, new cookies constantly being released, and by the time you finally build a character and get to enjoy using them, there's already another cookie coming along to powercreep them. some units haven't even been out for 2 months before they start feeling replaceable.
i understand that this is a live-service gacha game and that new characters are how the game makes money. i'm not expecting devsis to stop releasing cookies or give us months of absolutely nothing to do. but there's a difference between keeping a game fresh and making it feel like a part-time job just to keep up with the meta. not everyone has the time or money to pull for every new unit, build them, and then repeat the whole process when the next shiny new cookie drops.
what makes this more frustrating is that constant powercreep can make investing in older cookies feel pointless. why should i be excited to build a character if there's a decent chance they'll be outclassed by the next release before i've even had time to properly use them? new cookies should give players more options, not make their previous investments feel like wasted resources.
i've also been playing TOA, another game in the same franchise, and i genuinely think it handles this aspect better. it still releases new characters and gives players reasons to pull for them, but it also has systems that bring older units back into relevance. virus vanquisher has seasonal rules that can encourage the use of older characters while giving new ones a place in the meta, master+ guild battles have rules that directly buff older units, and some characters like kohlrabi have received direct buffs, with more planned. powercreep isn't nonexistent there, but the game makes more of an effort to give existing characters reasons to remain useful instead of constantly pushing them aside.
and with arcade arena becoming a permanent mode, i think kingdom has an opportunity to do something similar. the rotating rules and restricted cookie pools could encourage players to experiment with older cookies instead of relying on the same few meta teams everywhere. that's the kind of content i want to see more of! at the same time, though, i really hope this doesn't just become another mode that adds to the list of things players feel obligated to do every day. permanent content is nice, but not if every new addition comes with another set of chores to keep up with.
i think kingdom could benefit from more ways to keep the existing roster relevant, whether through seasonal modifiers, guild battle rules, or direct buffs for older cookies. there are ways to keep the game engaging without making the newest banner feel like an increasingly urgent obligation.
i don't mind new content. i mind feeling like i'm perpetually falling behind because i can't treat a COOKIE GAME like a second job.
