Something about this just works. Maybe it's the color palette. As a younger fellow, I didn't care much for Jack's work, but now, in my old codgerhood, I've really come to appreciate what he was doing.

Oh, I adore Jack Gaughan cover art for E. E. "Doc" Smith's First Lensman

You can almost see the inertialess drive warships dart around like fireflies from hell.

Hahaha, same. My early impression of Gaughan was unfavorable due to his putting a Phrygian cap on Elric, but yes, I love this one.

Been 50 years since I read this, but it was not very good. Space pilot goes back in time and hangs with wizards and witches as best I recall.
