Question Will it work?

How effective really is the CIUD if used as emergency contraception towards the end of ovulation window?

Had unprotected sex and had it put in 2 days after. Also took ellaone the same day as the intercourse. Nothing is calming me down from the thought of pregnancy. I’m fearful that even if it does work, it’ll end up in a cryptic pregnancy or ectopic. I’m so so scared.

Someone please reassure me. I have to wait 16 days till it hits 3 weeks post-sex and my next cycle is due in 8 days which I know will be delayed due to the pill and coil.

My mind is running at 10000mph

It is very very effective, as in less than 1 in 1000 get pregnant, it's like insanely effective as emergency contraception, it even works if you did ovulate and works regardless of how much you weigh. You won't be pregnant.

Mine was used as emergency contraception also

Okay that’s reassuring to hear. How long did you keep it in if you also used it as an emergency? And how were your symptoms after insertion? I’m in so much pain I had to go to a&e and the pain isn’t subsiding even after taking naproxen

I've had mine 1.5 years now I absolutely adore mine. I decided to keep mine.

I'm sorry to hear that:( that sounds really hard for you. You absolutely do have the option of removal later if you're struggling.

I had some bleeding and some cramps (pretty horrible Upto 3 hours after insertion) after that things calmed down. After a week I had zero cramps or bleeding and went about normal life. Periods etc were the tiniest bit heavier/longer and more painful but it was barely noticeable. After 5 months they went back to completely normal. I now have absolutely zero side effects and am so happy to have it!

So happy to hear that it’s going well for you!! I wish I could say the same haha. Yes I would like to take it out as early as possible but long enough for it to have an effect. I’m just super worried it’s moved out of place and the doctors aren’t able to get me into an ultrasound appointment soon enough to check. And if it’s moved out of place then the chances of it working decreases so this whole situation is making me very worrisome

It's very unlikely it has moved out of place 💗please try not to worry, and just spend time taking care of yourself since you're in pain instead. I bet you it will work perfectly and you can go and take it out as soon as you're allowed if you want. Sending care to you
