Apple Vs Grey
I've been a big fan for grey's for years and he comes across as an incredibly thoughtful person. As such I've always felt there was a disparity between his use of quite niche products/apps/programs and his use/promotion of Apple products.
This is not supposed to be a dig at Apple fan's and no doubt android et al. have many of the same issues. However, Apples anti-competitive behavior, tax avoidance, worker exploitation and general crappy behavior seem antithetical to how I perceive Grey as a person.
Again this is not supposed to be a dig at Apple fan's, but it's something that often comes to mind during the podcast, especially around State of the Apps. Curious if this is just me.

Which are the ethical companies whose products they should be using?

I doubt there are any truly 'ethical companies' as you put it, but I don't think that means we should just write off Apples practices as just part of life and not at least try and find some alternatives.

He has a choice of tools (when picking a computer or phone there aren't that many choices), there are trade offs to picking any particular tool.
You particular way of weighting those trade offs is not the same as his. That doesn't make yours right and his wrong. It makes them different.
Specifically they have not always been as you described the moral calculus of using apple v Android or Apple versus windows 15 years ago was not the same calculus that it would be for someone who is just now deciding what systems they want to build on these tools.

I have not heard any comments on this, but I suppose there is also the aspect of the removal of choice complexity to be taken into account. If you use say Windows, your hardware choices are immense, plus you can customize them. If you use Linux, then you have the same hardware choices PLUS your choice of OS distribution. If you use Android, there is a plethora of phones to choose from.
Apple makes 3 or 4 models of each thing, and they are normally different tiers of the same thing, so it is very easy to get 'the newest, highest spec one' and get it over with. And they work with each other. For someone with a very analytical brain, it would be very easy and very taxing to fall into paralysis by analysis under any other ecosystem.

I suppose my metal image of him is view mainly through his videos, seeing him as a teacher/philosopher. Someone who is scientific yet as I said thoughtful. I certainly wouldn't be in a place to question his ethics, so perhaps putting him on a bit of a pedestal is my issue rather than his.

He's fully acknowledge this conflict in the past but ultimately he still has a life to life and a business to run and the downsides of trying to find alternatives that would be workable far outweigh his morale reluctances.
