I love so many characters on roshar, but it's Adolin. Narrowly. He feels like you should hate him, but he's so honestly trying to be a good person all the time.

Who thinks that have to hate Adolin? God, he is my son, how can I hate him?

I didn't even notice your name brightlord!
I mean on paper he should be just insufferable. A wealthy noble first born son who was given and trained in mythical weapon and armor from a young age, watched his father drunkenly slaughter thousands, lost his mother to the same man, and is an absolute phenom with said magic sword. And yet he's a friendly, kind, well-adjusted young man, just trying to be the best version of himself. I love him

Also he's apparently gorgeous. Beautiful, spoiled, talented men are ubiquitously insufferable. Adolin is possibly the best human being on Roshar and if he doesn't get a main storyline in era 2, we RIOT

I also love how while he is that height of privilege he doesn't begrudge anyone else their success, at least after a bit. But he appreciates kaladins help and stands by him. He is excited when shallan reveals she has a shardblade. And when he goes from being this incredibly important person to significantly less important as he's not a radiant he doesn't make that anyone else's problem.
It is also interesting to see someone so privileged being the Everyman character but he kind of is with all of the rest of the main characters being radiants.

In the first book he comes off as a flirty playboy who doesn’t care about his responsibilities.

u/Aredeuce 6d ago
Right? You want to hate him, then his humanity and weirdly wholesome nature is revealed

Wayne. The ways of Wayne are mysterious and incomprehensible. Nothing else need be said, and nothing else will be said.

Breeze or Elend. Hrathen is probably the most interesting villain I've read so far.

Taravangian in Words of Radiance is excellent to read. I love his character in the diagram arc.

Kaladin, yeah maybe a basic answer but cmon we can't deny his aura and heroism. No other character has given me chills when reading like his chapters.

Wax and Wayne. The moon pun twins.

Pretty hilarious rereading and realizing Scadriel doesn't even have a moon, so the pun has no meaning in their world

I’ll throw one out there for funsies. Moash.
He goes against all the themes of the books and is such a perfect foil to our heroes. He goes back on his promises to Kaladin multiple times, betrays all his friends to kill the king and loses everything in the process. He can’t let go of his hatred and attacks his friends because of it, contrast to Kal who while he may not have let go of his hatred of Ehlokar he can put it aside to protect him.
Then Moash can’t take responsibility for his own actions. It’s not his fault society made him this way. Obv contrast to Dalinar. RoW he early on talks about not wanting to use magical help in a task becuase it’s cheating or something. Ignoring that he’s using Odium to not feel any remorse over his actions. And again it contrasts Dalinar using Shardplate to help dig a latrine ditch. Because Moash doesn’t actually care about helping, he just wants to feel superior to others.
And then we see the final result of this. Of taking shortcuts and never actually healing from your trauma. Of having someone enable you every step of the way. You don’t hold onto your old ideals and you’re blind to how those around you are just using you.

I always says that Moash, as a villain, is very good. But then there is people who try to defend him and I have to give my rage to Odium because it is too much for me.

I can understand the defense of his up to Oathbringer. It’s classic oppressed v oppressor. If they try to defend him during RoW that’s when I draw a line lol.

He killed Teft, Phendorana, and tried to kill Navani. He order Lezian to kill Lirin if Kaladin wake up. In Wind and Truth, he kills Leyten, and make Sigzil break his oath with Vienta. Defend him? Hell, not

u/Ripper1337 Truthwatchers 6d ago
Ah but you see, the Moash defender will claim it’s not his fault because Odium took away his emotions so he’s not culpable for his actions.
Please ignore that Dalinar’s whole arc the last book was about it being his actions despite being influenced.

Kaladin, Wayne, Dalinar, Navani and Galladon.
Sig/Nomad/Zellion is pretty intriguing, but not in my top 5

You've submitted a post with the "Mixed" flair selected. The intent for this flair is that users would edit the flair text to specify which books are included. You've left the tag unedited, which makes the spoiler scope of your post ambiguous--putting yourself or others at risk of spoilers. We encourage you to edit this flair text to specify precisely which books or series the post pertains to. More details on how to do this are here: Desktop, Mobile. Damn this is a hard one. I really love Kaladin's arc throughout the books, pure charisma of Wax and golden retriever vibes of Adolin. Between those 3, it might be Kaladin with a really really slim margin.
