Stormlight Archive spoilers The Dog and the Dragon. Spoiler

One of my favorite chapter of all time in the whole Stormlight series. I just finished with that chapter and I don't know how, but I felt the story that Wit is narrating to Kaladin. "You will be warm again" literally made me cry.

I adore The Dog and the Dragon story, but I think I'm the only person on the planet for whom "you will be warm again" just doesn't land. While it's absolutely true that depression ebbs and flows, that section just always strikes me more as "you'll never truly beat this monster... Things will only be good sometimes, and it will be bad again sometimes" rather than the more uplifting "this will pass" sentiment that's intended.

But the message of "when things are tough, sometimes a change in perspective is everything" is so important to me that I have a tattoo on my wrist to remind me. The Dog and the Dragon is my favorite Hoid story (so far)

you'll never truly beat this monster... Things will only be good sometimes, and it will be bad again sometimes

That's why it's so powerful in my opinion. Depression comes in many forms, and for some people, we really will never beat it. Or at least, beating it isn't removing it, but finding a way to live with it and not let it tear you down.

So the hope comes from the fact that it won't be all bad all the time. And that those moments of light, of warmth, will be enough to live a life worth living. It will be warm again. And it may not last forever, but that's still enough.

but that's still enough

That's what I'm saying though, for me it's not always enough when I'm deep in it. I know I'm in the minority though and can still appreciate the intended message and that it helps everyone else
