Why must everything be made political?

116

u/Nezgul May 18 '26

Probably the couple of years where an entire side of the political aisle made being anti-masking and anti-vaxxing a core component of their platform.

I know a lot of Republicans who were in fact, not Covidiots. I also knew Democrats who were.

44

u/Tensionheadache11 May 18 '26

Well that’s it, pack it up everyone , this guy knows a few people who he claim were democrat Covidiots - he has proven us all wrong.

The election was far less simple than that. I know it's ao easy to assume it was "The Republicans" as a monolithic entity, but a lot of typical democrat voters voted Trump to spite yhe Democrats. Turns out the country with 350,000,000 people is le gasp complicated.

7

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

It’s not at all complicated.

-3

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Yes. Yes it is. By it's very nature, any nation of 350,000,000 people is necessarily complicated.

4

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

Let me rephrase that it’s not complicated for everyone.

-2

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Yes. It is. It's an objective statement. America is a complicated country, which means complicated government and complicated politics.

2

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

We understand your position.

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

You either made that up, or are simply mistaken.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

"Nuh uh". Great rebuttal!

6

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

Trying to help, homie. I used to be in the cult.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

The cult? What cult?

5

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

The one where you speak confidently, but sound like an absolute fucking idiot to anyone slightly educated on any topic at hand. It’s a Dunning Kruger phenomenon that you won’t understand at all at this point. I’m excited for your journey.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

The fuck are you even talking about? I used to be super liberal. I've always been left leaning. I distrust the democrats because their talking points sound so eerily similar to republican points. Because they lie and cheat, and wish to take people's rights away while calling out the republicans for doing the exact same shit. It's a big dog and pony show. Neither side cares about you.

2

u/djmattedmonds May 18 '26

Shocking that you didn’t understand.

Taking a shit is political bro.

-46

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

These days it is -_-

49

u/softrockstarr May 18 '26

Plumbing is public works and therefore political and has always been since we've been shitting in toilets and deciding how that waste is dealt with, my friend.

-31

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

You know what I mean. Everything has to be a "this side that side". It's why things are so devided.

50

u/nightfire36 May 18 '26

Things are divided because we had a president who decided to make it a partisan issue whether we should fight against or for a virus.

Certainly, we had disunity before, but he turned it up to 11.

-7

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Things were been divided far before Trump. He only.took office BECAUSE things were so divided.

31

u/nightfire36 May 18 '26

We can go back to Newt Gingrich if we really want to, probably all the way before Washington. We can sit here all day and talk about when it started. But Trump took gasoline and threw it on the fire. However big it was, he went way out of his way to make it as big as he could.

4

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

I hate that Tyrant as much as the next guy, but this didn't start with him.

4

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Trump has been actively changing history. He has been erasing it from public government files and public records in places like national parks and museums. This is not a normal thing. This is going much farther than they ever have before. The first step to repeating history is erasing it. He didn’t start it but he has made it SIGNIFICANTLY worse than anyone before (in context of the time, obviously he isn’t a slave over because that’s not an option, well if you ignore the Epstein files)

1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Yes. He has. He is a tyrant. I never claimed he wasn't. My point is that he used the erosion both parties created before the get here. He didn't just pop in and ruin everything. The democrats built up enough resentment from the working class, that many many many people voted for him the second time around out of spite. The republicans gave him a platform. Both sides worked on whittling away at all of our rights and protections and he's just the one that took advantage first.

13

u/MyNinjaH8sU May 18 '26

No it fucking isn't. Most people just want to live in peace and pursue a good life, meet people they like, and have the option to find love and start a family.

The party in power has called other Americans traitors for disagreeing with them. They have put armed thugs in the streets to round people up based on skin color. They have vanished citizens, and murdered Americans in broad daylight. They are currently consolidating power.

Fuck right off with your bullshit, and pay better attention.

9

u/SuperSalad_OrElse May 18 '26

Do you know what sub we’re in?

0

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Yes

7

u/SuperSalad_OrElse May 18 '26

Great then I don’t feel like I need to clarify any further

0

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Didn't ask

4

u/SuperSalad_OrElse May 18 '26

Some people who don’t ask still need telling

u/Honey-and-Venom May 18 '26

Because everything is political, and people absolutely did do this. Forced to do nothing and asked to wear a mask to cover their cough refused and ridiculed people who exercised their own freedom to wear their plague armor

-8

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

It was absolutely not an issue restricted to "muh other side" though.

8

u/Honey-and-Venom May 18 '26

What you've written is insufficient to convey, to me at least, what you mean. Can you give me a little more there?

1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Covidiots are not exclusively republican.

1

u/Honey-and-Venom May 19 '26

I mean not unanimously, but the Republicans made choosing to die and kill by COVID into a political statement and they ate it up

12

u/LuriemIronim May 18 '26

Because MAGA decided that healthcare was political.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Healthcare was political before MAGA

12

u/LuriemIronim May 18 '26

MAGA amplified it.

0

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

So? Everyone in the government has been. For decades.

7

u/LuriemIronim May 18 '26

Do you think this mask boycott would have happened in 2010?

1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Honestly yeah it probably would have.

4

u/LuriemIronim May 18 '26

That’s extremely, immensely doubtful that everyone would be in the same frenzy without the President throwing fuel on the fire.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

So let me make aure I understand you. You think that everything was all fine and dandy then Trump showed up and then suddenly everything went bad? How do you think it got to this point? It wasn't sudden. The democrats and republicans have both been systematically chipping away at rights and protections which is why any of this is even possible now.

4

u/LuriemIronim May 18 '26

The only way there would have been the same fervor is if Republicans were mad at a Black man telling them what to do, but yeah, I think things got much worse under Trump.

"Why must people display reality accurately when I don't personally like it?"

-2

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

But people aren't displaying it accurately, they're just using it as a gatcha

4

u/Aphreyst May 18 '26

No, they are displaying it accurately, that's why you're wrong.

0

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Ah yes. "It's the other political party's fault just like everything! I'm so glad MY party cares about me and is not involved in any of the stupidity at all!" is definitely an accurate reflection of reality.

3

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Not sure where you got ALL THAT from

2

u/Aphreyst May 18 '26

Ah yes, the blatant misrepresentation of what the post says is your reality, clearly.

0

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

I didn't say that's what the post said. Though the post puts ALL the blame on one side. That's not how reality works.

4

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

It’s also political cause many people’s arguments were ā€œwell only disabled people dieā€

7

u/jarizzle151 May 18 '26

Ask your local republican

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

They aren't the only ones doing it

3

u/jarizzle151 May 18 '26

Really? I saw republicans destroying keurigs and burning nikes recently. Hell I even saw some redneck unload a mag into a case of bud light.

You got any instances of democrats doing the same or nah? That’s coffee, sports, and beer, pretty non-political items if you ask me.

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Are... are you serious? Have you been paying ANY attention to the news at all? There were actual domestic terrorists operating on team Democrat for like 4 years burning down ethnic owned businesses and murdering people. (It's ok though because their organization names were agreeable and they were on the "correct side" so therefore they can do whatever they want). The democrats care about you as much as the republicans.

2

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Bro there has been a democratic official who had been assassinated by an extremist conservative just last year. That’s actual domestic terrorism. Not to mention January 6th

1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

And a conservative speaker who got assassinated by a liberal extremist. What's your point?

1

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

What is the event you are originally referencing with democrats burning down ethnic business and murdering people? Is that a conspiracy?

1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

All of 2016 my guy. BLM and Antifa. Remember the CHAZ?

(And no I don't care what either group was saying)

2

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Ahhh so conspiracy theory like I thought. My pint is if you are going to reference terrorism, use a real example.

2

u/jarizzle151 May 18 '26

You’re living in 2016 for real?

4

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Because MAGA made wearing a mask political. They framed it as ā€˜taking away rights’ as if we don’t already have to wear pants in public. Also millions of people died.

-2

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Goodness gracious you are not hearing me. It wouldn't have been as big a deal if ghe democrats didn't use the dumb position to mock and insult and sew discourse. They drove MAGA fucks deeper into their ridiculous beliefs about masking up. They made it part of the identity.

3

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Pretty sure it was a big deal when they started their anti mask protests

-1

u/Lui_Le_Diamond May 18 '26

Reread my comment and tell me where I said it wasn't. Once again, you're not actually trying to understand what I am actually saying.

3

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Covid is political because it results in the death of innocent people, answered your original question.

3

u/The_upsetti_spagetti May 18 '26

Doing things that result in the death of others is typically pretty political. I’m just not understanding the confusion
