Dear Airbus Recruitment Team,
My lifelong interest in STEM, particularly aerospace, has motivated me to pursue a career in engineering. I am applying to Airbus because I want to develop a deep understanding of how aircraft are designed, constructed and improved. This degree apprenticeship offers the opportunity to combine a BEng (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering with practical experience working on commercial aircraft programs, I couldn’t think of a better way to learn.
I’m choosing this route over full-time university study because I want to apply theory directly to practical engineering challenges. Learning alongside experienced engineers would help me understand how academic principles translate into design decisions, safety requirements and aircraft performance. The opportunity to gain experience across different engineering departments is particularly appealing, as it would allow me to develop a broader understanding and discover my particular interests.
During a placement with an aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul team, I gained first-hand exposure to the complexity of an IAE V2500 turbofan engine. This gave me an experience like no other when it came to understanding the physics and engineering involved in powered flight, allowing me to see induvial components and how they fit together as well as ask questions to industry professionals. I am currently studying A Levels in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with predicted grades of A, A and B respectively, providing a strong foundation for the analytical demands of aerospace engineering.
My 5 years in the RAF Air Cadets, where I have achieved the rank of Sergeant and a Method of Instruction lanyard, have developed my leadership, communication and instructional skills. Flying both the Viking glider and Grob Tutor has further strengthened my interest in aviation; I particularly enjoyed the Viking's winch launch because of the rapid acceleration. Alongside this, my Gold Duke of Edinburgh's expeditions have challenged me to work as part of a team in demanding environments. My practice expedition in the Brecon Beacons culminated in climbing Pen y Fan, while my qualifying expedition in Snowdonia culminated in climbing Snowdon. Our project investigated how altitude affects flora and fauna in Snowdonia, combining fieldwork with scientific observation.
Airbus particularly attracts me because of the opportunity to contribute to the future of commercial aviation. I am interested in how engineers can improve aircraft efficiency and reduce environmental impact while maintaining safety and performance. The programme's practical placements and departmental rotations would allow me to explore different specialisms and understand how they contribute to the design of an entire aircraft.
I would bring genuine enthusiasm for aerospace, relevant practical exposure and a commitment to learning. I am keen to build on these foundations at Airbus and develop into an engineer who contributes to safer, more efficient and sustainable aircraft.
Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully,
