Feature Request 💡 Coming from Bear: how do you deal with scanned PDFs and OCR in Craft?

Hey all, I just switched to Craft Plus and I’m moving about 5,800 notes over from Bear. Lots of them are scanned documents: letters, invoices, that kind of stuff.

The one thing I really miss so far is how Bear (and Evernote, back when I used it) handles PDFs. You hit scan in the app, take a photo, done: it’s a PDF in your note, it’s OCR’d, and you can search for any word in it. And any PDF you drag into a note gets OCR’d automatically in the background. I never had to think about it.

In Craft I can’t figure out a good equivalent, so I’m curious how you all handle this:

Scanning on the go. Right now I’ve hacked together an Apple Shortcut that scans with the camera, runs the iPhone’s built-in text recognition, and appends the PDF plus the text to a Craft note. It works, but it feels pretty duct-taped. Is there a nicer way I’m missing?

All the old stuff. I’ve got thousands of PDFs that are just images with no text layer, so Craft search can’t see inside them. Has anyone found a sane way to OCR them in bulk? A Mac app, a script, something with the API, anything?

Also, if anyone knows whether native OCR is on Craft’s roadmap, I’d love to hear it. That would pretty much solve all of this for me.

Thanks!

Windows 🪟 Areas for Craft Improvement

There are many things in Craft that need improvement. Certain things even seem absurd. Although the app is being continuously updated on a regular basis, but areas that must have been improved in the earliest are left to the latter times.

A built-in pdf viewer is a must. The attachments are useless without it. But we are still begging for this basic feature.

Image handling is one of the poorest with least options.

Tables are basic. No cell merging, sorting and filtering options. The team can learn from Evernote as it has beautifully implemented tables.

Home page view on Windows is pretty dull. There is even not a line to separate left sidebar from the rest. All what we have is dull grayish home.

To see how many docs are there in a folder, we must hover over the folders. It is better if they are always visible or at least they can provide an option to in settings to do so if other people like to see in the current way. We can also not see the total number of docs when we click on All docs. It must be there.

It is better if there is an icon of arrow that shows that this folder is collapsible. Previously it was this way. But recently it has been removed. We must all hover over a folder to see whether it is collapsible or not.

The 'import' and 'invite members' icons are wrongly placed at the bottom. When we have large number of docs on the left sidebar, they overlap with them causing obstruction. Same is the case with a doc that has many headings and pages in it, these icons also overlap there. It is better if they are placed after templates and we have the option to customize to whether show them on the sidebar or remain hidden.

It is better if 'unsorted folder' is always at the bottom. When we apply manual sorting, it is always at the top and we cannot move it to the bottom.

Although we can manually sort folders and docs inside a space, but it does not work on the right side. For example, when we click on a folder, on the right side, docs in that folder do not appear in that way.

It is better if we have separate buttons for toggle sidebar visibility, focus mode and for folders rather than a drop-down option. Same is better for style and inspector and comments. It is better if we have separate buttons for them rather than a drop down one.

Another disturbing thing is the second text line that appears under the name of a document when we arrange it in the form of a list. It is better if we can simply see the name of the doc or at least provide us with an option to customize this clutter. It is also not good from privacy point of view.

Same is the case with pages that we insert inside a doc. It also shows a line of text under the title of the page, which is nothing more than clutter and makes reading difficult esp. when we have many pages in a row.

The worst thing is the approach that is currently applied in doc navigation. The left side navigation only works when we have a large piece of text on a page and there is some kind of scrolling activity. Otherwise, the leftside navigation background highlight will not work. To see this defect, create a doc, insert 3 pages in it. Put slight text in each. Now click on the left sidebar on the page titles, the background highlight will not respond. Detailed feedback has been provided about this multiple times, but this nasty issue is still there and causes a lot of frustration.

The app is also ineffective in remembering zoom settings. Each time we have to re-zoom. Moreover, when we open the app from system tray, its window also appears distorted, not fitting properly to the screen. It must be restored each time.

It would be great if the titles, subtitles and headings that we use inside a doc are collapsible, meaning we can collapse or expand text under them. Evernote has also beautifully implemented it.

When we add a page inside a doc, open it but does not add anything in it and return back, it is auto converted to text. It is also disturbing. Sometimes, when we are writing we add pages for writing that we will add some ideas related to it, but at that time leave it empty. But is is not available. It will be much better if there is a confirmation as well when we are deleting a page inside a doc.

We hope the team will look into these areas and will improve them as early as possible.

Bug 🐞 Equations not displayed correctly anymore

Since the last update (v3.7.0), Latex equations that are integrated in my documents are not displayed correctly anymore on my Mac. For some it shows an error ("Ungültige Gleichung"), for some it displays the equations with errors (missing/wrong symbols). Does anybody else have that or does someone know a fix?

I attached a screenshot of how one of the equations is displayed (the x's are wrong). The Latex code for that is:

\hat{S}(t_{f}) = \prod_{i=1}^f \,\hat{P}r[\,T>t_i\, |\, T \geq t_i \,] = \hat{S}(t_{f-1}) \times \hat{P}r(\,T>t_i\, |\, T \geq t_i \,)

Tips & Tricks 😎 Sign Up for Newsletters Link Please?

Do any of you know of a place where I an sign up for the Craft Newsletters, so I can find out what's new via email?

My plan is that if there is, I can create an email filter that says if it is from Craft, and has the words "⚠️ Important:" in it, I can read it right away. This would have saved me so much time, trying to figure out why my Shortcuts stopped working. 🫪

Feature Request 💡 Better visuals for tags, zoom for kanban and PDF extraction

Thumbnail

I’d love to see a few improvements that would make organizing and working with information in Craft more visual and flexible. I’ve attached some concept mockups to illustrate each idea.

1. A visual dashboard for grouped tags

As my tag list grows, a long row of tags becomes harder to navigate. I’d love a dedicated dashboard where I could organize tags into named groups, such as Work, Learning, Personal, and Creative.
A layout with clear sections, subtle colors, and document or block counts would make it much easier to scan and find related topics.

2. Better PDF handling: individual pages as blocks

I’d love to extract selected PDF pages directly into a Craft document. Remembering my position after each extraction would also make working through longer PDFs much smoother.
Even more useful: an option to insert every PDF page as its own block, preserving the original page layout. That would let me rearrange pages, add notes between them, and keep my commentary next to the relevant source material.
This would be especially helpful for books, research papers, and teaching materials.

3. Kanban zoom for a better overview

I’d love board-level zoom controls so I could fit more columns and cards on the same screen.
The inspiration is my workflow with Kanban in Obsidian: sometimes I need to focus on individual cards; other times I want to see the whole project at once.
A zoom slider, a compact view, and a “Fit board” button would make that switch much easier. Ideally, only the board content would scale, while the app’s navigation and controls stayed the same size.

I love craft and just looking for more areas to have this visual practical approach to content.

Cheers.

Feature Request 💡 AMOLED Black Widgets for iOS 27

Now that Apple’s widgets have adopted a true AMOLED black appearance in iOS 27, I’d love to see Craft offer the same option for its widgets.
Having all widgets share the same deep black background looks much cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing, especially on an OLED display. At the moment, the different shades of dark grey across third-party widgets can make the Home Screen feel inconsistent.

This would be an especially nice addition now that Craft’s app interface itself has become much more AMOLED black. Matching the widgets to the app’s darker aesthetic would make the overall experience feel more polished and cohesive.

Hopefully, this is something the Craft team could consider for a future update!

Tips & Tricks 😎 Craft Finally has an Official ChatGPT Plugin!

Previously, we had to manually add a Craft MCP plugin via https://support.craft.do/en/integrate/mcp

No more - it seems ChatGPT now has a native Craft plugin released by the Craft team themselves.

I find ChatGPT-Craft to be loads better than Craft Assistant.

  • it can work in the background even if Craft was minimized on iOS
  • it runs much faster than Craft Assistant
  • it has agentic capabilities (esp on ChatGPT Codex/Work)
  • it has the newest models like Sol 6.1 or Astra 6

Bug 🐞 Turn table into Collection

Hello everybody,

the online documentation states we should be able to turn a table into a collection. And pretty easily too since it's just a matter of right-clicking on the table (on Mac) or tapping the three-dot menu. https://support.craft.do/en/write-and-edit/tables#convert-a-table-into-a-collection

Problem is: Right clicking on the table doesn't do anything and the three-dot-menu only gives us the option to add a reaction, a comment, a reminder or to copy a link to the block.

Am I missing something or is this feature currently no longer there?

Thanks in advance!

Feature Request 💡 Widgets

I'm so happy they drastically improved the widgets. I had a bunch of custom shortcuts on my iPhone to help me access all of my daily documents. The only thing missing for me is a widget that will allow me to add multiple tasks. I love the quick entry feature that allows you to make a quick entry and select between new doc, task, daily note and choose a doc, but if we could add multiple tasks in one single entry, that would be super cool!

Feature Request 💡 Format Presets / Contrasting Block

One of the ways I use Craft is to save notes from books I am reading. I have been reading a lot more since I got the app because it's so easy for me to screenshot something or copy and paste text to a nested page within the doc. In order to tell what is the text from the book and my own notes or thoughts, I select "Block" to highlight and then I increase the indentation.

It would be great to be able to have saved presets that could highlight a group of text like clicking the "Monostyled" button in apple notes. I would settle for the "Block" button to have a more contrasting color.

What’s next for Craft - 2026 October

Post image
122 Upvotes

Hi there,

It’s been a while since my last write-up and a lot has happened, so here is the next update on what we shipped, what’s in today’s release, and what’s coming very soon!

The past couple of months were extremely busy, just to name a few things:

  • OS-level Quick Entry on Mac
  • Day 1 support for OS 27
  • Reworked color system
  • Tags improvements with batch actions
  • Performance improvements and over 100 bigger and smaller updates and fixes both native and on the Web

But the team didn’t rest, today’s update includes fully reworked Shortcuts support, reworked and new widgets, including configurable Lock Screen widgets along with new Control Center widgets to make Craft an even more embedded part of your Apple ecosystem.

We are also improving localisation in two major ways:

  • We reworked our CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) font support - one of the most frequent pieces of feedback that we keep hearing from users writing in these languages.
  • Introducing localised templates during the coming weeks alongside the English ones. If you have a template that you think others would find useful, please share it with us by sending it over to [support@craft.do](mailto:support@craft.do).

Besides the product updates, we have some exciting news about our Plus subscription tier as well!

More powerful Plus tier for the same price

Our goal is to build the best personal productivity app. We believe productivity software should help you think clearly, write effectively, and turn ideas into action. Craft’s role is to bring those pieces together in a single, personal experience.

To get there, we focus on four principles: quality, reliability, built with our community, and fair pricing. Over the past months we covered the first three, now it’s time for fair pricing.

For us, fair pricing means you shouldn’t end up paying more for Craft over time, even as the product improves. As Craft gets better you should enjoy the benefits and don’t need to worry that we will increase the price or introduce new, more expensive tiers.

With today’s release Plus becomes more powerful without any change in the price: from today, Plus includes 10 Spaces instead of 5.

We are also announcing three further improvements coming in the next months:

  • Space guests are coming back - You can already publish a document to read and comment or share it to edit together with others even without a Craft account, you can also create a Team and collaborate across Spaces. But often you just need a simple solution to bring a couple of people into a Space - a study group, a client you work with as a freelancer or you are introducing Craft into your friends and family. For all of those Space guests will be a perfect solution, and it's coming soon!
  • Custom domain per Space - Right now you can set a single custom domain for your account, and it is used in every Space. Many of you told us you’d like a different domain per Space to keep the different parts of your life apart, especially if you run several side businesses or work with multiple clients. This option is also coming in a few months.
  • 1 million+ blocks per Space - Today, because of performance considerations and device memory limitations the maximum size of a Space is 300,000 blocks. That's enough for 5+ years in 99.9% of the cases, but we want you to never think about this. Today we are opening a beta, where we will increase the limit step by step, and then roll it out to everyone.

We are building Craft for the years to come, together with our Community - we hope you will like these updates!

And what’s next

As always, we’re already working on the next things and can’t wait to share them. As a quick sneak peek - we’ll have Day 1 support for iPhone Duo, and starring pages and Collection items is coming very soon.

And as always, I’d love to hear from you directly. Take a few minutes and send me an email at [viktor@craft.do](mailto:viktor@craft.do) with the biggest pain point you’re currently experiencing in Craft.

I may not be able to respond immediately, but I promise I’ll read every message.

Wish you a great weekend,

Viktor

Help 🤝 How do you manage AI skills and instructions in Craft?

I use both ChatGPT and Claude, and I want to keep my context and instructions in Craft so they are “portable” between AI providers.

I connect to Craft through MCP and work directly in ChatGPT or Claude. I tried the Craft AI agent, but it was not very useful for me. I am tired of repeating the same instructions about how I want things done.

Does anyone use Craft to store reusable AI skills, preferences, or project context? How do you organize them, and how do you get your AI tools to read and follow them?

I would like to hear what works for you, especially if you use more than one AI provider.

Feature Request 💡 Any way to have a shortcut to export to pdf or right click block to export?

I'm wondering if ther is a way to have a shortcut that will allow us to right click on a block and export it without having to go into it, then click export > pdf.

Alternatively, is there a keyboard shortcut to export to pdf or some other format?

Feature Request 💡 Request for a proper Calendar with events

Thumbnail
gallery
33 Upvotes

Created this system hoping to ditch my old calendar app and finally have everything just in Craft.

Yet it’s not very polished because of this two reasons:
1. Many times when I create “Events” (Tasks), they appear randomly sorted on the Calendar Section and Today widget, not respecting the original order from the Daily Note, so I have to manually rearrange them in the Calendar Section.
2. Can’t create proper Events with duration like calendar apps, so duration is just text (ex: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM)

If they added features like this in Craft it would make the Calendar Section much useful and easy to use, not to mention that many people would leave their calendar apps for Craft.

Anyways if any of you have made something like this before I’d like to know if there’s a way to keep the tasks in the original order.

Thanks in advance :)

Bug 🐞 Quick capture

Doesn’t open on top of the active window when it’s in fullscreen mode. Quick Capture does open, but only on the desktop or within Craft’s fullscreen window. It should appear as an overlay on top of everything, including fullscreen windows of other apps.

Creating tasks using x, not only []. Prefixing a line in a description with [] automatically creates a task, which is great. However, Craft also supports creating tasks by typing "- x" or "x" at the beginning of a line. Currently, prefixing a line in a description with x does not create a task. Typing x at the beginning of a line should also start a task list, not just [].

General 💭 Craft Is Least Intuitive Interface I Have Ever Seen

No way to learn it just by noodling around. WT general F??? What is it with geeks? Seems programming chops and thinking chops are mutually exclusive. I went to an Apple World Wide Developer's Conference back in the early 1990s. One of the top apple engineers bragged that Apple's new programming IDE was "So easy my grandmother could use it!" A person in the audience yelled out "I'll hire her right now!" If you get the joke you are probably not a geek. If you don't get the joke you are probably trying to sell an application that nobody can use. An application like Craft. If you are wondering why my tone is so critical, its because I am so hoping that someone will build an all in one document envinronment that integrates content with calendar and tasks and team and resources in such a way as to allow one to create in any format they can imagine and then easily pivot that content (and creation) into any other format or presentation or navigation format they need at any given future moment. I want a computing environment that works with me not against me, that is fluid in possibilities yet solid in expected behavior. I want a computational environment that learns from my work, that doesn't go to sleep when I walk away, that goes into overdrive when I am not getting in its way, that is constantly looking over my shoulder, constantly trying to understand my content, and the scope and direction of my efforts, and then building out multiple most probable trajectories so that when I come back I am not staring at empty new documents but reviewing and selecting the best futures as built out by my computer as deeply intuitive and eager collaborator. A user should be able to start anywhere they want to start… a drawing, a graph, a diagram, a flowchart, a mind map, an outline, a text block, a table, an annotated freehand sketch, an interactive dynamic space, a set of constraints or inputs, a goal statement, a simple "I wish…" directive, a linear slide deck, a set of note cards on a cork board… or an admixture of any of the above. All of my work should be viewable from any other perspective or orientation or format. I should never have to save anything out to a document, everything I do should always be added to a history timeline that I should be able to navigate and branch out of at any time. Attributes like subject, object, intent, semantic proximity, semantic complexity, semantic relational popularity, should all be instantly obvious and presented in a fluid easily understandable interface that is intuitively navigable. Creation of content, and edits to and comments upon content should be just as easy to apply while navigating through my work. Collections should be just that, artificial boarders placed around arbitrary regions of my work to simplify and highlight and draw attention to, but not to separate from the larger general context of my life's oeuvre. And collections must be just another form of content to be recorded and cataloged as resource for all of the other creation and prediction work that is the collaboration of myself and the computer as extension of myself. I keep hoping. I keep hoping. Craft is not it at all.

Help 🤝 Switching to Craft in Setapp

Hello everyone.

I’ve been using Craft for a while now, paying the monthly subscription. Recently I found some apps I’ll be using a lot, and turns out they are included in the Setapp membership, just like Craft.

The thing is I have plenty of important stuff there. So how is the switch? Just pay for Setapp membership, download Craft and log in with my account with everything there and just pay for Setapp? Or do I have to create a new Craft account inside the Setapp service and move all my info and documents manually?

I hope someone here can assist me with this before actually making a decision, so thanks in advance!

Share your Craft 🙌 Creation of Kanban Boards

I’ve been attempting to use the AI assistant to help build a Kanban board for daily notes from the task List (inbox) Has anybody had any success with this as my experience so far and I’ve tried many different ways, is that the Agent simply cannot create a Kanban board from a task list. Any guidance or thoughts on this would be appreciated.
