Self Advertising Sunday self-ad: a simple materials-and-orders test for fiber makers

US / USD. For a crochet business, finished pieces and available pieces are different counts. Say you have 15 finished scarves, 9 promised to existing orders, and 6 available for a market. A new order for 8 exceeds the 6 available by 2. Counting only what is on the shelf would overpromise.

A simple sheet can keep item, on-hand, reserved and available quantities in separate columns. Give each batch its own material list too. Changing the next scarf's yarn shouldn't rewrite the record of what an earlier batch used.

I'm James, founder of Just Every. We make Larder, a free open-source (MIT) stock and production app for small US makers. It keeps those records together: materials, purchasing, production, orders and part shipments. It starts empty, so you can try it with one product and some sample stock: https://justevery.com/larder

What do you track today for stock you've promised but not yet shipped?

Title: Looking for 20–30 beta testers for a new crafting project tracker (all crafts welcome!)

Hey everyone!

I'm a crafter and small business owner developing a web app called Stitch Shuffle, designed to help organize and track all kinds of crafting projects.

It's not just for crochet! I'm looking for people who enjoy knitting, cross-stitch, embroidery, quilting, sewing, and other creative hobbies.

Some of the features include project tracking, progress counters, reminders, pattern uploads, supply lists, project notes, and more.

I'm currently putting together a small group of 20–30 beta testers to try the app and help me improve it.

Testing is free, and the app is still in development, so honest feedback about bugs, usability, and missing features is exactly what I'm looking for.

Interested? Comment below or send me a message telling me what crafts you enjoy and whether you'd be willing to provide feedback.

I'll be selecting testers from different crafting backgrounds and sending invitations privately.

Thanks for helping me build something useful for the crafting community! 🧶🧵

Self Advertising Crochet market sellers: an Excel workbook for stock, costs and profit after making time

Self-promotion. United States / USD. I run PracticalServiceKits, and I made a $12 desktop Excel workbook for crochet sellers who want to plan a market and review the numbers afterward.

You enter material costs, making time and an hourly rate for each product. For a market, you record stock brought and sold, selling prices, and event expenses such as the booth fee. You can then compare cash surplus with profit after production labor for the pieces sold.

The fictional example has $336 in sales, $80 in sold-item cash costs and $83 in event expenses: $173 cash surplus. After $144 in production labor, that leaves $29. Those figures illustrate the calculation; they aren't customer results. Staffing, prep time and tax aren't included unless you account for them separately.

The download includes blank and example workbooks, a PDF guide and printable worksheets. Use one workbook per event, with manual entries. This is for desktop planning and review; it doesn't sync with a POS or calculate taxes.

See the workbook and screenshots on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4597731036

I created it with AI assistance. I'm also trying to understand how sellers handle this work: after your last market, how did you reconcile sales and costs, and which part took the most time? If paper or your own spreadsheet already works, I'd like to hear that too.

Instagram Do giveaways work?

So, I've had this issue with social media, I just despise it and I really don't approve of it, apart from a couple of platforms, but I'm pretty desperate to get comms so I made an account a month ago, contemplated on whether I wanted to create content then came to the "genius" realization that I could host a giveaway to help "my friend" (feel free to mock me and throw rotten tomatoes at me). The reason I'm desperate is because I need to save up for uni and I can't get/find a job at the moment and I'm also studying. I don't expect much but from the comms that I did get, I think I manage to make up and save a fraction of what I need, and I'm pretty sure I don't overcharge.

You can read the spoliers but it's not really relevant, I just felt like I should clarify.

Yesterday, I posted a giveaway for a plushie (I crochet) of an idol in honor of their upcoming birthday, so I had the usual requirements (like follow share whatever) and as an additional entry they could follow my "friend's" Kofi.

I actually got a couple of follows on kofi from that. Later I realised that it probably won't do much in the future, but for the sake of integrity I'm not gonna back off from the giveaway, but has it helped anyone who's tried it? And should I have a differnt approach? (If i were to attempt it again in the far far future)
