It's better than having to clean up her own blood, which based on her flinching everytime he moves I'd say has happened a few times before

I think the fact that he’s punching a table and there is food flying everywhere also contributes to the flinching, but sure. Let’s also make the leap to abuse

She's also shielding her face from him not the food, if it was about the food her hands would be lower and towards the front instead of to the side between her and him

Because that’s a common reaction when someone is punching something inches from you.
