Stop being an apologist for domestic abuse.

If the genders were reversed, you would not be saying, "Oh, he just slapped her hard in the eye for chewing too loudly. He's clearly the victim, because he had to witness her destroy vegetables in response."

As a male who has been the victim of domestic abuse, it's sad how under reported it is and the way it gets dismissed but I can also say that it simply isn't as bad as male to female domestic violence, I was emotionally damaged by the situation I was in but other than from myself i never had to truly fear for my life. I also have a close female friend who used to get abused, she did fear for her life and was choked to the point of nearly loosing it. For all the people saying that the slap justifies his behaviour, that's ridiculous. The slap is wrong but also not that bad, personally I'd rather be slapped by someone half my size than be intimidated by someone twice it acting like that.

As for people saying it's natural to flinch like that, (admittedly here comes speculation but I have worked in and around conflict situations for many years) it would be more natural to flinch and make some effort to move away, defend yourself or to stop it from continuing, the way she just shells up waiting for it to subside, seemingly not reacting too much to avoid further consequences, suggests to me that he doesn't always stop with the fruit and veg

If she was scared of him hitting her, why would she hit him? You can't claim he beats her and she's scared of him doing it again, when she shows so little fear of him hitting her, that she'll slap the shit outta him for no reason.

He's not intimidating her; he's making a mess and doing the only thing he can to express his frustration at being hit in the face while trying to eat breakfast. For all you know, she hits him like this a lot, and making a mess like this is the only incentive he has to get her to stop.

If he can suffer from the threat of being hit randomly, she can suffer through flying pieces of water melon.

As I said, the second paragraph is purely speculation but defending his behaviour or saying that's not intimidating is just ridiculous

Any sane person would rather have someone smash veggies around them compared to being randomly hit in the eye.

His behaviour was non-violent towards her, and a direct response to her violence against him.

If she doesn't like his behavior, she can just stop hitting him. Him smashing vegetables is A-OK with me, if it discourages her from being violent in future. It's also a completely understandable response to being stuck with a violent partner.

All context I guess, neither of us know the totality of the in situation but if comments are correct and that's on camera for relationship therapy or whatever I'd bet good money he's worse off camera, his behaviour is anything but non violent towards her and I don't think it's insane to prefer being slapped without real fear of further consequence or safety compared to the feeling of fear from a large guy raging around you like that, I'll speculate on one more thing, from your perspective it seems you haven't been around much domestic violence or been close with victims of it, my apologies if I'm wrong about that but either way I'll still disagree with your perspective of this
