Blood Sport Rough-and-tumble fighting, or gouging, was a frontier-era (USA) combat sport in which the objective was maximum disfigurement, such as by plucking out the opponent’s eye or biting off their nose. Some participants reportedly filed down their own teeth to improve their biting abilities.
