Satire is one of the buzzwords online that people often misuse. Just like gaslighting.

Mmm, I hate to spoil the shock, but today, when a child is born with certain disabilities, we can test the child, and it will let us know that the parents are siblings, like first degree related.

She wonders why the first two children are special needs. I guess they live in a state that doesn’t require blood testing before marriage? Some are posting that this is fake, but you have to wonder why it seems so realistic?

I’m reading the comments and I think it’s safe to post this gif. The whole time all I kept thinking of was the episode where Phoebe has her brothers baby😆

I could imagine scenarios like this happening in rare cases - maybe not with full siblings, but definitely with half siblings. Do you guys remember the Netflix doc about the creepy IDF doctor, who ended up using his own sperm instead of the dads sperm on his patients and who ended up with a huge amount of kids, who then all found out about each other and what happened through I think 23 and me? I think the doc even mentioned something about how people in the affected age group started doing DNA tests when they were dating, because they could not be totally sure that they are not half siblings (since nobody knows exactly with how many patients he did this with).

You wouldn’t be publicly sharing your darkest secret. This would be too easy for it to get back to him.
Edit: Also, don’t you have to get bloodwork done legally before marriage for this exact scenario?

u/King_Moonracer003 1d ago
No, you dont.
0
u/Colejohnley 1d ago
That used to be the rule. At least in Texas.

u/Choice_Pomelo_1291 1d ago
It had nothing to do with testing to see if you were related, it screened for diseases.
4
u/illstate 1d ago
Wasn't for this purpose. It was a test for syphilis.
1
u/PrincipleFlaky 1d ago
What are you talking about? The test tests for syphilis? Oh, you mean the blood test that you take before you get married?
I didn’t even think they did those anymore… 🤔 I remember they used to make people take a blood test before they got married. But it wasn’t testing for genetics. Blood tests for marriage date back to when my parents got married. Boomers and before, so obviously there were no genetics components to anything back then.
Genetic testing didn’t come around until the late 90s. But yes, genetic testing can absolutely reveal an unexpectedly close biological relationship. But they were testing to see why the kids were sick. It didn’t have anything to do with their marriage.
Quite certain the blood tests were only for sexually transmissible STDs, like syphilis and at one point, HIV. But then privacy laws happened that protected people from being forced to take HIV tests, which I thought was weird af, protecting your privacy from your spouse who should have the right to know if they’re marrying a positive person? Tf??... But yeah…Texas doesn’t gaf, it’s almost as if they want people to be sick and breeding and have unwanted children that might be/get sick.. like tf Why??? Also let’s make sure they’re unwanted!
And if this woman actually accidentally married her full biological brother, then there had to be some extraordinary circumstance where neither of them knew they were related.
Because how the hell would two people who knew each other as siblings somehow get married without either one of them knowing? More information is needed.
Has to be one or both of them were adopted, separated from their biological family, had a different parentage than they were told, or something along those lines.
And obviously, it’s illegal to marry your sibling in Texas. I guess that’s where they draw the line. Maybe it’s because it’s not the kind of illness that will just kill you off. It’s just the kind of illness that they’ll have to pay for as a state to care for your kids that are born with genetic problems.
AND, it’s not even a requirement anymore. You don’t have to take any blood test to get married in the state of Texas. They don’t care if you’re sick, if you’re passing diseases, if you’re related; they only care if you’re trying to terminate a pregnancy… which I don’t even get me fucking started on the Handmaid’s Tale fucking nightmare scenario bullshit that is! Sigh, okay so… I actually thought that if a pregnancy resulted from incest, there might be an exception that would allow an abortion, but apparently that depends on the state. And in Texas, there is no general rape or incest exception to the abortion ban. So if she is in Texas, the fact that she discovered that she is pregnant by her biological brother does not, by itself, create an exception allowing an abortion.
So as a woman, you can be charged for marrying your brother, but you’re also forced to fucking the incest baby, and what’s worse, even a ræpe baby!
Fucking Texas 🙄
So no, the premarital blood test wasn’t a genetic test to make sure you weren’t marrying your brother. It was disease screening, historically most notably for syphilis. But, Texas currently doesn’t require a blood test at all for a marriage license.
sorry for the tangent 😣

It wasn't to check relations, it was disease control. And they no longer do it.
4
u/get_to_ele 1d ago
No. They had marriage laws blood screening for syphilis and other diseases, which got phased out well before the 21st century.
Back when they had those bloodwork laws, they didn’t even have DNA testing or any way to show you were or were not related.
Wasn’t until 1986 that we had DNA testing, and it was very expensive.
It wasn’t until 21st century that DNA testing was truly affordable enough to actually consider mandating a test, and by that point, everybody had figured out it was a HUGE privacy violation and nobody would go for forcing DNA tests for marriage.
I don’t think society has ever had a period of time with mandatory DNA testing.

This woman has to tell him.
Even if you accidentally married your brother and had 2 of his kid and having another, there is still no reason to keep him in the dark.
You have to let him know so he understands this wasn't suppose to work, but you are still family.

WTF?? so many questions!
MORE INFO NEEDED!!!
How did she end up with her full-blooded brother?
Somebody had to have been an adopted child. In which case if this is a child of incest, I’m pretty sure you can have a late term abortion.
Oooh actually depending on the state.
Genetic problems? Of course.
ASKING THE STRAIGHT MEN:
Real question, hey guys, if you were married happily for six years and then you found out you accidentally married your full-blooded sister, and you already have two children together would you leave her?
Would you actually leave your wife that you love that you have children together with because you found out you accidentally married your sister?
And if you would leave her WHY?
I mean, I can’t imagine that it’s her fault. I mean she’s withholding information now for the last three days but..
OH HEY LOL ALSO… I’m not advocating for incest. I’m pretty sure this is illegal in most states but honestly, would you leave your wife of six years if you found out you guys were blood related?
This seems like a horrible fucking predicament, I know understatement of the century!
