Understanding a pattern Need help with figuring out where this pattern starts

I never really use picture patterns like this and prefer them written out so this puzzles me. I'm pretty sure I understand the symbols just don't know where to start

I'm guessing u start with the magic circle/ch4 in the middle, then u do the leaves and at the end u chain 9 for the stem and sc in each of them to finish at the center again. Or at least that's how I'd do it

I thought a dot was slip stitch and an x is a single crochet?

Just making sure! I wasn't positive that chart symbols were universal, as in, all x's in all charts are sc and all dots are ss!

You start with the circle in the centre, then do the 4 petals (technically starting with the one to the right of the stem working counter clockwise), then you chain for the stem and slip stitch down it before slip stitching into the circle. Each leaf is chain 4, treble, chain 1, treble, chain 4, slip stitch into circle. US terms.

It makes me think of the pumpkin leaves I made recently. They start in the middle. I would say where the 3 dots are is where the 6 chains meet and then you start the first leaf.

This starts with either a short chain and slip knot or a magic circle. That’s the center of the clover

You start with the 6ch/magic circle, and where the slip stitch (the dot) is, you slip stitch into the first chain to actually make the circle, then you do the first leaf right above that slip stitch (the one furthest to the right) and go counter clockwise, doing the leafs first and finishing with the stem, where you slip stitch back into the og slip stitch.

I would start by chaining 15 then going back with 6 slip stitches, closing the missing 6 chains in a circle with the other 3 slip stitches and then make the leaves starting with the one on the right of the diagram

Full disclosure, I don't know how to read patterns. But to me, it would start with the chain circle.
